LeapFrog - Mr Pencil's Scribble & Write

Bought for my 2 1/2 year old for Christmas last year. He mainly played around with the buttons the first few months and when he turned 3 he had gotten better at holding the pencil and tracing the letters. He will be 4 in a few months and he still loves playing with it and my 2 year old son has started to play with it as well. It is a great toy to take along in the car and it helps keep my sons occupied during their old brother and sister's sporting events. They have dropped it a few times while we were out in the past year and thankfully it is a sturdy toy and is still working perfectly! The only thing I would change about the toy is the screen's brightness/contrast because the screen is harder to see if you are in a room without good lighting. The only thing I would change about the toy is the screen's brightness/contrast because the screen is harder to see if you are in a room without good lighting. Since this has been one of my son's favorite toys I decided to purchase another one for my nephew's 3rd birthday and I am told he has liked playing with it as well. I would definitely recommend this toy if you are looking for something that is education yet still entertaining!

Don't waste your money

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my soon-to-be 2 year old. After the batteries died, it took a whole for me to replace them as I wasn't a fan of the dark small screen. After replacing the batteries, I couldn't get it to come on. I went back to using an app on her tablet where she traces with her fingers.(I got the V-Tech one too just haven't tried it out yet as it is bigger than her.) This product would be great if the screen was a bit bigger and came with a backlight. We both love that she can carry it around. As I am not a fan of cleaning pencil walls from scribbles, I saw this as an alternative. I always sing praises whenever someone asks me a brand of products to use but not for this particular toy. Fix the problem Leapfrog and I will.

Easy to Take on the Go!

This is absolutely perfect for my daughter who is almost 3. She's just learning colors, letters, numbers and shapes and this "tablet" makes her feel cool like her big brothers. She calls it her tablet.I LOVE the handle to carry it - it is our "go to" toy to grab for the car. It has an on/off switch and volume options. There are a zillion buttons to press which is a big stage for us right now. Drawing, shapes, upper case and lower case letters, numbers, spelling, etc.I really appreciate that Mr. Pencil is attached to the tablet with a string because we'd definitely lose him otherwise. This poor toy has been dropped, stepped on, and thrown around with no consequence so far. Great quality, extremely educational, and captivating for all my kids.I received this ... MoreThis is absolutely perfect for my daughter who is almost 3. Favorite learning toy

I love to buy learning toys and this has been the most used out of them all. I have 2 of these. All 3 of my kids have loved this toy. They’ve lasted years and hardly ever run out of batteries, like never. Neighbor kids pick them up and spend 20-30 min playing, I’ve loved having 2 for that reason. I highly suggest this to all my friends and family with little kids.

Highly Recommend!

As a mom of 3, I recommend this "toy" - it's a learning tool that children will have fun playing with. Parents, before you hand your children your phones, and tablets that don't necessarily teach - choose to get them this and other Leap Frog toys like it! I've made the mistake of handing over the phone and tablets but this is so much better.Your children will learn, and have fun while doing so. My preschooler and toddler love it! My 4 year old spends lots of time practicing her shapes, letters, numbers, handwriting, and even spelling on this! It allows you to free draw as well. It has a friendly tone used and light background music, and keeps it fun like a game the whole time. It's "touchscreen" that children can tap and draw on, it's so cute! Highly recommend

My almost 4 year old thoroughly enjoys this toy! We bought it for a very long car ride, and it kept him so engaged that we literally didn’t need another toy for the 5 days we were on the road! He was originally very interested in writing letters, so this toy was very timely for him too.My only complaint is the screen- it gets scratched up way to easily. My son got frustrated and banged it with Mr. Pencil, and there are numerous scratches. I guess there is something to be said when the screen isn’t broken after that nuchbabusr though... the toy is pretty sturdy too. He’s banged it against the floor too, and it works fine. Good price too!

Must buy! Great learning toy

This has been the best purchase we have made for an educational toy for this targeted age group. My son turned 5 and thought it would be time to buy something like this. He came up to me the other day and brought be a paper with the letter “I” he learned to write on his Mr Pencil. He was so proud that he learned to do it by himself. We have the Mr Pencil in the car so he is entertained and learning at the same time. In one week, he has learned so much from this toy. Highly recommend!!

Only one "correct" way to write letters/numbers

Bought this for my 3 year old lefty. She gets frustrated because you have to trace the pattern EXACTLY or it doesn’t register. It also makes you trace numbers and letters a certain way only, which is not the way I write my letters (even as a right-handed adult), and certainly not the way a lefty would write. She does seem to enjoy it, but gets easily frustrated. I think online writing apps for tablets might be a better option.

The Best Learning Tool Thus Far

The moment this came out the box, my 4 year old preschool was anxious to try it out and it won him over big time. My son is having challenges with writing and drawing and this tool definitely is helping in just a few days, from learning the proper way to write letters and numbers, to learning how to spell and draw shapes. This tool is a must have. I gave it 4 stars because I have 3 small cons, the packaging is a struggle to get through. Took me about 10 minutes to get the toy out the box. The pencil is hard to remove from the holster. It really locks in there. My son struggles getting the pencil out. Lastly, the pencil is position more so for right handed people. My son writes with both hands at this point as he is struggling which hand he is most comfortable with, but he hears himself towards using his left hand but he struggles with that strong being in the way and getting the pencil to position correctly when using his left hand. I think these kinds of tools should have options for lefty and righty users.

Wonderful Learning Tool!

Fantastic toy! This lightweight board has the entire alphabet is capital and lowercase, shapes, and numbers 1-10. Kids can trace them, hear the sounds, and learn things associated with them (like M is for Monster, a picture of 10 bumblebees, and a circle becomes a ball). The attached pen is easy to pop out of its holder, or a finger works to tap//draw on the screen. I LOVE that my kids trace the letters and numbers to start learning the motor motion. The screen displays how the letter/number/shape is drawn, then has arrows and makes cute sounds as my kiddos trace it, plus an error noise if they get off track. Or they can free draw and get little trophies or crowns when they finish their drawing. My kids will soon be ready for the spelling game, which starts off with ... MoreFantastic toy! My kids will soon be ready for the spelling game, which starts off with having them choose which letter of 2 that goes with the sound. Great for moving from letter recognition to sound recognition. The size is PERFECT for traveling. It's not backlit, so there needs to be enough light to see it. The options are easy to navigate and the buttons are easy for little fingers to hit. The plastic is durable but ours does have a few scratches already because my kids are rough. Definitely recommend this toy for yours kiddos!I received this toy to review with my family.
