I got this for my nephew for his third birthday, and he loved it from the moment he saw it, I think mainly because of all the brightly lit pieces he can hold. While this "game" included instructions, they were too complicated for this just-turned-three boy to tackle, but he was certainly entertained without instructions. For instance, just using the "pincher," as he calls it (the tongs included) to pick up the different colored fruits was just a blast to him. He had never used tongs before, and he had it mastered in short order. Most toys before this, the child has to rely on his hands to pick up the pieces. Including the tongs was a great idea. However, any parent could think of ways to ask the child to select a fruit and try to remove it without causing an avalanche... I'm not crazy about the avalanche part, though, because of the resultant mess, fruit scattering all over the hardwood floors and scattering into the dog dish on one occasion, but we haven't had to pick up too many avalanches so far, as he is content mainly just identifying the fruit and playing independently with them. There are enough pieces to keep any three-year-old occupied, and as he grows a little, the game instructions could be used easily.

Good for teaching and motor skills
7 January 2015

Out of the box found that the stand is all cardboard. Not sure how long it will last? Set up is simple and fast. Instructions are simple and well stated. The placement of the instructions on the back of the Fruit Stand is awkward. Its difficult to review/refer to the instructions and wish they had placed them elsewhere. The fruit and tweezers are very well made design, heavy plastic, good colors and shapes. The tweezers can be used for other things and help with the same skills they need to learn for holding a pencil etc. This game is good for motor skills with the tweezers, eye/hand coordination, learning colors, counting, sharing, taking turns, learning how to use the spinner and of course clean up with all the small pieces. The concept of the game itself however ... MoreOut of the box found that the stand is all cardboard. For some its not enough to hold attention for very long.Fun but not a favorite.

Great game for kids.

The Avalanche Fruit Stand Game is a great game that families can play with their children. It teaches counting, patience, and how to solve a problem. It's fun for kids to try to figure out how to get the fruit out without causing all the fruit to come crashing down. The only down side is the instructions for the tongs that come with the game. It's easier to hold them the way you hold tweezers then the instructions on how to hold the tongs. It's easy to use and easy to store away for later times when you want to play. It had my child laughing and she seemed to have fun with it. It would be a great tool to use in classrooms. It also teaches kids colors and how to match the fruit to the color. And good family kid friendly games are hard to find. This is one for all ages to have fun with. Both fun and educational and a great game to teach patience.

Great learning tool for toddlers
10 January 2015

My 3 year old granddaughter Kate has played with this everyday since I gave it to her. Her parents have blocked out time each day for them to play this as a family. Kate loves her mom and dad time, and we love that she is having fun while learning! She spends her day in daycare with a lot of activities, but too much of her evening is spent on the iPad learning apps. It's nice to see her sharing, interacting and creating memories. She also has a very short attention span, and this has really helped her to focus on the activity. Her only problem is determining which side of the spinner she is supposed to be watching. She has "arrow" issues!Although the instructions on the back of the stand are simple to follow, you can also make up your own. She loves to spin and put something back instead of taking it out. Just her way of making the game last longer. She doesn't think anyone has figured that out! And she also doesn't care to end the game when there is a winner, so most of the time the stand has to go empty and then a winner is declared. A set way to play isn't necessary, but teaching the rules helps train little ones how to follow instructions. Doesn't mean they will follow them, but it's a start. This game has an easy set up. The stand is made of a strong cardboard, which is very sturdy. I'm not sure how the fruit is made, but it's really nice. It's heavy and not flimsy or hollow. The colors are great for boys and girls,,, and fruits. The tweezers are just right for small hands to grip. It teaches children identification of fruits, colors, numbers, counting, hand and eye coordination, dexterity, concentration, rules, sharing, playing together, waiting your turn, and picking it up and putting it away when the game is over. I would recommend this game.

This learning game was a little less than what I expected. The game comes with very durable fruit pieces. 8 of each strawberry, orange, grape, apple and bananas. I actually really like the way they are made. It's not that cheap plastic that buckles but rather a very thick non bendable plastic. You are supposed to arrange the fruit into the carboard fuitstand. Which at first I was thinking was not going to hold the fruit. It was just going to roll out. But to my surprise it held. You then flick the wheel and use the super thick tongs to pick fruit out of the stand trying not cause an avalanche. The reason I gave this game such a low score is because the tongs are so bulky and stiff it's hard for a 3 yr old to wrap their hands around them and maneuver them. And the fruit stand itself; being made of carboard I can see this being ruined very easily. And even tho I said earlier the fruit held up in the fruit stand, if you move the stand with the fruit inside, it all falls.I can see how this does challenge a child's mind to recognize shapes, colors and patience.Clean up and storage back into the box is very simple.

Learning Resources Avalanche Game

Avalanche Fruit Stand by Learning Resources“Mommy we play fruit game now!” That about sums up our opinion of this game, my preschooler can’t wait to play it each time. This game has a very simple set up, lots of brightly colored fruit in a shallow tray that can be adjusted to stand at two different angles for increased difficulty. Each turn the child or adult spins to find out if they can pick one fruit of a particular color, or perhaps 2 fruits of any color they like. A tiny wedge of the spinner even gives the option to take a fruit from the other player. Bright thick tweezers with indentations for fingers are then used to pick up the designated fruit. The only negative we have about this game is that the tweezers are so incredibly thick that they are too stiff and are hard for little hands to squeeze which results in holding with whole hand and gripping in a a fist to get the tweezers to pick things up. Slightly different rules are needed for younger children since gripping the tweezers with a fist means the hands are almost guaranteed to hit other fruits on the stand causing avalanches. A simple change for preschoolers would just be that they have to put back the fruit they were going for and it ends their turn rather than putting back all fruit they have accumulated. Other than that one little change we love this game!

Sturdy easy game to teach young ones

This is an easy game to play and will introduce the youngest ones the concept of board games, like taking turns, spinning a wheel etc. The fruits and the tweezers are sturdy and will suits little hands well. Older kids also seemed to have fun playing this game. Once little ones have tried this game, they will be ready to move onto more complex board games. The rules are simple and available on the back of the fruit stand. I looked all around for the instruction sheet for a while before I noticed the back of the stand. So mentioning this to those who might end up making the same mistake!Basically you have to unstack the fruits based on the spinning wheel, without dropping any other fruits. In any case its a fun game, and got a lot of laughs and kept 4 and 6 year olds occupied for a while. If the tweezers are too difficult for the little one, then use hands to pick fruit - they will still be dropping some!Packs away easily - which is another advantage. Sturdy and built to stand reasonable amount of abuse.

I can take the game to a friends house with other children and I get the same result; hours of fun! We used the games as well at a child's birthday party and again we had a pleased host because there was a group of shy children not wanting to be the larger group of kids and they played with the Avalanche Fruit Stand game the remainder time of the party. My sister inlow runs her own day care and loves the game as well for her day care kids because the under the age of 5 and are learning colors and shapes and even staking things you can even teach counting and sorting with it that's the stuff she does with it. My little 4 year old has ditch the iPad to play with this game because she loves the preted with it more then the iPad she likes to count them and sort the fruit and add and sapract it and even name the colors and shapes and even tell me the defrent fruit and what she really loves to play with her sister is trying to stack it and pull the fruit out its so fun to watch the girls play. I would highly recommend getting it for kids.
