Best everyday carry tool

I bought this thinking it would be a good light weight tool for backpacking. It’s that and more! It has become my favorite everyday carry tool. It fits nicely in my pocket. It has the tools that I need most in my day to day. The knife blade is a useful length without being so large that it worries other people in the office. My only complaint is the lack of a flathead screwdriver. I highly recommend this tool.

This is my fourth Skeletool. I used to use the super tool and it legit pulled my pants down, and I got the first one as a gift I would have never chosen myself. I gave one to TSA (lol) then I dropped one in the ocean, and my partner did manage to break the last one using it inappropriately (it was the carbon one they don't make anymore because they flex too much) Super super handy to have around and you can get kits with little flat allen wrenches and different things to put in the screwedriver area. When the handle is open it is a way better handle for screwing than most multitools. I love that the locking blade can open and close with one hand. I love the Skeletool model. There are only 3 things I use in any Multitool: pliers, screwdriver, and the knife. Basically all the other optional tools I never used, so this fit perfect! It's light weight, and yet strong enough to get most jobs done. Sometimes I use the carabeen clip, but usually use the belt hook built in.I did bend the blade lock on my first one, years ago - but received a new one with warranty. I recommend not trying to chop too much firewood with it. lol. Highly recommend!

Great little EDC tool
11 July 2022

I bought this on a whim after seeing another person carrying one. Boy was I surprised at how useful it is. It's become my favorite EDC tool...at least at the moment. I've used the pliers, the knife, and the phillips screwdriver several times. So far, I'm thrilled with my purchase. The only minor gripe is the location of the pocket clip. It's sits a little awkward when clipped to my front pocket. Honestly though, I'm not sure how else they would do it given the design of the tool.

Great medium sized tool
28 March 2023

Good size tool. The knife is a good size and the tool is handy for what is needed. In comparison to the Leatherman Charge, this Skeletool is smaller and lighter to carry. It did not come with a pouch, but I found a nice Leatherman pouch that fit the tool perfectly. I would recommend this tool for someone who want to carry something a little more that just a knife. Highly recommend.

Great tool for what it does
18 June 2022

I love this tool when it fits the bill. It's well made, functions as you'd hope, and fits nicely in the hand (slim but substantial). But it has limited tools (pliers, knife, screwdriver). I bought it versus more loaded-up models because I don't like carrying much in my pockets. So when I'm actively working on projects and I remember to grab it, I use the belt clip and stick it in my front pocket. But frankly I'm not carrying it around all the time, which renders it unhandy. My wife has a more involved one, same brand, and carries it with her always, and loves it. I think for the price, one should just consider if they'll actually carry it most of the time or not, and think long and hard about the tools it does not have. BTW, I haven't used the carabiner once, so ...Ā MoreI love this tool when it fits the bill. It's well made, functions as you'd hope, and fits nicely in the hand (slim but substantial). I purchased my first Skeletool in about 2007/ 08. It accompanied on a trans-Sierra walk from Sequoia NP to Whitney Portal which was the first of many travels together. On all, it did what was asked of it. Unfortunately no.1 met a sad end when I loaned to a son who came back w/ one of the plier jaws broken off! Not sure what he was cutting but it must have been something that should not have been.I contacted LM and they said send it in. A week or so later a replacement showed up at the door. The only diff was that no.1 had the half-serrated blade and no.2 had a non- serrated blade. I was disappointed to learn that the serrated blade had been discontinued in this model as I really liked it.About 2012 or 13 I lost no.2. I back tracked for several days here where I live and searched high & low but no.2 did not materialize! I just hoped if found that it was by someone who would appreciate its utility and aesthetic. On the next visit tp REI no.2 was replaced w/ no.3. It has continued to be in my EDC since. Its compact, not too heavy, has the essential tools for most daily activities and has continued to accompany on travels around the west. I learned that to fly w/ it you should bury it deep in your baggage. The TSA looks unkindly on carrying this implement onto an aircraft! I had to replace bits on one. Again LM sent a small assortment after I contacted them. The pocket spring could be tempered ā€œspringierā€ as I have had to occasionally remove it and reform it to hug the body tightly again to maintain its holding strength. I love the way the blade is deployed and retracted one-handed. Holds an edge well. The CF is cool but at best its reducing weight a couple grams worth.Over the years I have gifted a couple to friends and will at Christmas present one to another son. I really believe this to be a great pocket tool!

Most versatile EDC knife/tool I've owned, but flawed.
4 May 2021

I've carried and used this tool every day for 3.5 years. Not the exact same tool mind you, I'm on my second replacement (more on that later). It offers all the features I could want for an everyday tool once the included bits are swapped out, I currently have a hard to find #2 robertson/flat bit and a #1 Phillips/#2 Phillips loaded. I've removed the clip as I've had the tool get snagged out of my pocket when using it. The carabiner is also prone to roll-out so I wouldn't store it anywhere except safely in your pocket. The blade can be opened and closed easily with one hand although the pliers and screwdriver are a two handed operation. The bottle opener is forever handy. The blade can be opened and closed easily with one hand although the pliers and screwdriver are a two handed operation. The bottle opener is forever handy. It really is a great tool for those that want a knife mostly with pliers and a screwdriver occasionally*Now for the bad stuff. *Long story short, do yourself a favour and spend the extra money on the CX version (also available at MEC). The blade on the base model is glorified cheddar cheese, the serrations are garbage, it doesn't hold an edge (twice weekly sharpening) and because of the serrations you can only regularly use 1/2 the blade further exasperating the problem. The tip of the blade cracked off on all 3 I've owned within a couple of months and total blade failure was the cause of death for my first two (snapped off at the front of the thumb hole on both). I have no doubt it will be the demise of my current tool. I won't be sending it in for replacement when it fails again despite the excellent service provided by Leatherman, instead I'll buy the Skeletool CX as I should have in the first place for its higher quality 154CM straight blade. I therefore cannot give it a recommendation. Attached is a picture of my second replacement that has been in use since Oct 2020.

Where we have lots of scissors.Mind you, the blade is super sharp, so in most cases it can do what I need scissors for.I foresee this being my everyday carry for quite a while, with the odd time where I will bring out the Juice for an evening or the Surge for going places where we won’t have access to other tools.
