Love this Wingman. Am generally moving to Leatherman as I find the Gerbers I have had are brilliantly designed but use weak or brittle metal, or have been poorly put together. Wingman is just right for me in many situations; I'd say on domestic tasks and when gardening (on lawnmower, chain saw and similar). The Wingman complements my Leatherman Surge which is good for heavy and more brutal jobs. (For me, just one multitool just doesn't do it all.) Can't believe how many times a day I use the Wingman, it's just so easy to access, the clip is great, the blade is SHARP, the scissors are good, and the spring loaded pliers are BRILLIANT. That is such a really standout advantage of the Wingman and I wish the Surge had spring loaded pliers too.

This particular multi tool can ride in your pocket unnoticed all day long but its main features are deployable in an instant, using only one hand. The tools are robust enough to stand up to very hard use. I purchased mine to replace a much loved and used but no longer made Leatherman Sideclip. I wanted spring action pliers. The locking spring action scissors are robust enough and also deployable with only one hand, as is the main blade. The box cutter is a stoke of genius. All the tools are tough 420HC. All Leatherman tools are made in Oregon of steel from Ohio. As an EDC, this is an unparalleled value at $40. The Gerber is a great tool but heavy and bulky. And I don't want to wear a belt sheath all day. Just be careful. It is so light you might forget it and throw it in the washer with your jeans!

Holds an edge, very rust resistant, easy to sharpen, virtually indestructible. Does take a little while to loosen up, but you can adjust this if you know what you are doing. (Comes a little tight from factory.) Made in USA. Shape of primary blade is excellent for many tasks. Pliers work well, as do the scissors. The box cutter is an awesome design. Sharpens beautifully with a swipe or two on your favorite diamondstone. (I recommend DMT.Oil stones are fine too.) Really about as heavy as you can go with a pocket clip. A great value for a lifetime tool.

I don't use this thing nearly enough. I got it because I read somewhere that everyone should have one in their camping pack. I'll admit that I don't use it much, but I'm glad I have it. In the few instances where I HAVE had to use it, I'm glad I had it. It feels like one of those insurance items. You may never use it (or at least use it sparingly). But you'll be glad you have it when you need it. So, just get it.
This knife is definitely my favorite multitool so far. I've owned multiple Leatherman tools: a Juice S2, a Micra, a Style CS, and this. While the Juice remains near and dear to me this knife is definitely my favorite so far. I've owned it for 6 months and used it regularly and never needed to sharpen the blade; the edge is still virtually factory-new. The partial serration at the back is very handy for cutting, and the locking blade was an unexpected plus. Some of the tools are a little extra - I've never used the box opener or the scissors because I have the blade, and the file has yet to be used. However, the primary tools - screwdrivers, knife, pliers - come into use on a regular basis and are easy to fold in and out without being loose. it has a clip on the back ... MoreThis knife is definitely my favorite multitool so far. It has yet to see rough use and bad conditions, but if you need an EDC this will be stronger and easier to use than a smaller knife like the Style series, while also not being exorbitantly expensive. If you're undecided about this, buy it! Unless you need a specialized knife this will be a good knife for you.
I saw that someone reviewed this product and said the scissors were defective. If that is so they should send it back to the manufacturer. Leatherman is famous for replacing things or repairing them with no questions asked. My only complaint about this model is that sometimes one device will stop the piers from folding up properly so you have to fuss just a little sometimes to it all closed up. For me it it too heavy for Backpacking, so i also have the micra which is the very light weight model. This is a great tool for car camping and day hikes where weight isn't as important. Also great to have around the house.
i am a maintenance mechanic at a water treatment facility and i use this multitool every day. I have had several different types of these and this one is very tough. i had a Hoffman Richter which broke after 2 years and im still waiting for the replacement to show up after 4 months. the Hoffman was heavy and its case was so so. This is stainless and tough. Its very light to have on your hip all day yet feels sturdy in your grip. The case is also very tough and durable. This was 50 dollars. I'm not sure how a 100 dollar Leatherman functions but I probably will not ever need to. I got just about everything covered with this one.
The leatherman is a great tool. Always reliable and stronger than the cheaper brands that fall apart after one use. The included pouch is very useful to carry your tool. I chose this one because it included scissors. It's surprising how it can be the most versatile tool.
I like the scissors - they seem really heavy duty for a mid-sized multi tool. I've been using the knife blade in place of my pocket knife since I got this Wingman two weeks ago and it's very handy. I like that the knife blade can be opened with the multi tool still closed. The one handed acceses to the blade is very nice, as is the knife lock feature as well. The scissors also have a locking feature - not as big a safety deal as the knife, but still adds a sense of safety. The package opener (cutter) is going to be very handy this Christmas, when it comes time to open gifts for the kids. It's much safer to use than a regular knife blade for opening up those clam packs. I've got the Gerber 600 multi tool and it is a larger size, so I can't very well compare them ... MoreI like the scissors - they seem really heavy duty for a mid-sized multi tool. I've got the Gerber 600 multi tool and it is a larger size, so I can't very well compare them apples to apples. The one feature I really like on the Gerber that I wish the Leatherman had is the one-handed opening. That's a really useful feature. I don't know if it's a copyright issue or what but Leatherman would do well to add that feature to their lineup. But overall, the Leatherman Wingman is a nice tool that I've been carrying on my belt and will continue to do so for a long time. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend buying it and I'd buy it again, if I had to choose. The $30 sale price was icing on the cake.
While there are many different Leatherman models available, the Wingman is lighter and smaller than most. This makes it easy to keep on your belt without weighing you down. Ready for just that moment when you need it. While it doesn’t have the full range of tools of some of the bigger more expensive models, the tools it does have cover most of the task it’s called upon to perform.
