I was one of the lucky few who got this set on release day. The build is wonderful. It is a show piece l, so not much playability, however the pure presence of this model in a room is defenently a conversation starter. I was unlucky enough to have had step 14 poly bags missing which in all of my years of building I've never even as much as had a piece missing, so how a whole step got forgotten is beyond me but I've emailed lego and I'm sure they will fix it. There is a lot of repetitive building but the finished product is a show stopper. Many hours of enjoyment come packed up in this set. Lots of cool techniques, older techniques but fun none the less. I understand redoing a legendary set, but I wish they would have revamped it. Changed some things with all of the ... MoreI was one of the lucky few who got this set on release day. Over all I'm happy with this set and will look great once I get the missing pieces and finish it. Thank you lego and please keep the large sets like this coming. It's time for some new larger single building architecture sets lol.

I managed to buy this set 2nd hand from Marketplace for $250! I was hoping it would be a great build and the set did not disappoint. Upon completion the satisfaction of the build is a miniature wonder! Taj Mahal is an excellent build, particularly those who appreciate the architecture and the work put in by Lego themselves. One disappointing aspect for me is the main central dome. There are 'ledges' on 3 sides with only the one side flowing like all sides should. I thought I had built the dome wrongly, I checked, and my assembly is correct. I deducted a star for this.Lego set #10256 is a genuine challenge with almost 6000 pieces.

After working with legos throughout pretty much all of my childhood, I wanted to return to them as an older person. I'm really glad that I chose this set to come back to, because it really was a great experience. First, I want to note that building this feels like nothing else I've ever built before, even when I would build large sets as a kid. The build itself isn't that hard once you get the hang of it, because the parts are built four times each. The first time might be a little confusing, but it truly is easier than you would think. It took me six days to build it, but I built it on and off for only an hour or two per day. I would recommend this to anyone who grew up with legos and wants to return to them, but I would not recommend this to younger builders, ... MoreAfter working with legos throughout pretty much all of my childhood, I wanted to return to them as an older person. As for value for money, I would say it's decent. It is a very nice looking final product, and the price really isn't all that bad. Anyway, this is a solid 10/10 build. It's fun, it's rather challenging, and it looks amazing. If you're thinking about buying it, then just do it.

Build:This set's build is not for the faint of heart, even with the less advanced building techniques compared to today's sets. It has pieces that are small and the same color (for the most part), leading to confusion. On top of that, expect a large amount of repetition in the build. But if you are up for the challenge, building this behemoth is very rewarding to see become larger and larger.Playability/ Features:There is 0 playability with this set, so this would not make a great gift for younger builders. Instead of aiding in playability, the features of the set are instead dedicated to looks and utility. The designer did a fantastic job recreating the look of the Taj Mahal in spite of the limited part palette, making for a fantastic and eye-catching display piece. Along with great looks, the feature that allows for the separation of the set allows for easy and painless transport and storage.Differences Made:The set is virtually identical to the 2008 release in the parts department aside from the change in color of a few technic elements and the inclusion of a part separator. The main change comes in the build experience through the inclusion of numbered bags, making the build miles less frustrating to build than the original.Overall:If you have the patience and like the look of it, this set may be for you. If not, it would be best to stay far away from this set.
I think that visually, this is a stunning and exceptional set. There are a lot of tedious and repetitive building steps that are a result of what is being built (the Taj is supposed to be completely symmetrical) and most of it is built in 'quadruplicate.'There were two things that bothered me about the design, however. One is the structural integrity of the base (the outer terrace) didn't seem as well designed as it could have been. The six detachable segments aren't an issue if you have no need to ever move it, but do not hold up if you do. My other issue is that it appears a lack of understanding of the true architecture of the building. My other issue is that it appears a lack of understanding of the true architecture of the building. Anyone who has ever been to or studied it will know that it was created to be perfectly symmetrical, and while there is a limitation to what can be done with LEGO, the way the elements were situated in a few spots seems completely ignorant of this. It is correctable for an advanced builder, but just seems lazy, especially for such an otherwise intricate set.But again, I will say that the final model (after my own fixes were made) is a beautiful and stunning piece.
I missed buying this when it first came out and remember reading about Sting and his son building it when he was on tour. I was sure I'd never get a chance to buy it and then LEGO reissued this beautiful set. I was in line when my local LEGO store opened on November 3 and was very happy to carry it out to my car. It's designed in modules: six at the base, eight for the mausoleum, and then the dome. That makes for a sensible build and it can be disassembled if necessary. There is a bit of tedium, since the architecture of the Taj is all about symmetry. The modules can get repetative, but the plus side is you learn a few tricks as you progress. The engineering of the roof and interior of the dome is brilliant and structurally sound. The engineering of the roof and interior of the dome is brilliant and structurally sound. My 10-year-old grandson helped me at several points and it wasn't beyond his abilities. The only thing I didn't particularly like when I was done was the "knobbiness" of the dome and the domes of the four chhatris. So I went to Bricks and Pieces and ordered 1x1 and 1x2 tiles and 1x1x2/3 roof tiles to go over all the knobs. I think it cleans up the final product.Anyway, fun build and a very impressive piece that draws the admiration and comment of everyone who sees it, especially those who have been to Agra.
I hope Lego comes up with more challenging sets as the Taj Mahal. When finished the Lego Taj Mahal makes a nice display piece, but fair warning it's fairly huge.I like that the bags are numbered, for I have a small nook in the family room where I build my lego sets. I understand that people have a whole room dedicated for Lego, but this works out nice for people who don't. I have built 4 Lego sets so far and yet to have a missing piece which impresses me very much. About 1/4th way through the build process I changed my building technique a little and notice it was much easier to have every part separated and the very small pieces put into bins. It takes about 20-30 minutes to separate the pieces, but speeds up the actual build time immensely.I'm 53 years old, so ... MoreI hope Lego comes up with more challenging sets as the Taj Mahal. It's a very nice display piece and now I just have to find a place in a room where I can put it.I'm glad that Lego re-released this set and to all the so-called "collectors" stop calling yourself collectors. A collector is one who treasures their collections that rarely parts with anything unless it becomes really really valuable. No your just trying to make a fast buck at someone else's gullibility. I'm not a collector, for I build these Lego sets, for me that's part of the fun and it's a challenge.
I was so excited when I saw that the Taj Mahal set was being re released as I never had the chance to get the original of this legendary set, up until the 2017 Millennium Falcon was released this was the largest Lego set ever made, so I knew I had to buy this and have it in my collection!Firstly this is not a 'new' set, it is a re release of the old creator Taj Mahal and from the research I've done there isn't anything different about the two other than the box art and a couple of sections in the building process are in a different order, so if you're like me and don't have the original then I strongly recommend you buy this, but if you have the old one then there isn't really much point in getting this one, especially at the price it's at.This set took me 3 ... MoreI was so excited when I saw that the Taj Mahal set was being re released as I never had the chance to get the original of this legendary set, up until the 2017 Millennium Falcon was released this was the largest Lego set ever made, so I knew I had to buy this and have it in my collection!Firstly this is not a 'new' set, it is a re release of the old creator Taj Mahal and from the research I've done there isn't anything different about the two other than the box art and a couple of sections in the building process are in a different order, so if you're like me and don't have the original then I strongly recommend you buy this, but if you have the old one then there isn't really much point in getting this one, especially at the price it's at.This set took me 3 days to build and it was pretty full on but still enjoyable at the same time, the vast majority of the build was repeated 4 times as it has to be cemetrical. The build isn't overly difficult for adults or older kids but young kids will probably need help from a parent. Even though a lot of the build is repetitive it doesn't get boring at any point and you really feel like you've accomplished something once it's complete as the end product is truly magnificent!I was shocked at how huge the finished model is, it is absolutely beautiful and has a real presence in a room, it is definitely a set I would 100% recommend as it is a fantastic addition to anyone's collection and is a beautiful Lego construction of one of the 7 wonders of the world!Easily a 5/5!
The Taj Mahal set is the 3rd largest set LEGO has ever released (as of July 2020), coming it at a whopping 5923 pieces. The set looks fantastic when built, it is detailed and looks very clean. There are some complaints about it being fragile, but this is a model not a play set. It is meant to be taken apart and put back together modularly (in chunks) and not really meant to be touched and played with. It survives my cat brushing up against it so I'd say it's completely fine in that regard. Here are my pros and cons of the set:PROS:-great value, $450 for almost 6000 pieces. Where as the UCS Millenium Falcon is double the price for only 1500 more pieces..-lots of pieces if you ever take it apart-detailed build, and large, looks very nice on display-some ... MoreThe Taj Mahal set is the 3rd largest set LEGO has ever released (as of July 2020), coming it at a whopping 5923 pieces. Where as the UCS Millenium Falcon is double the price for only 1500 more pieces..-lots of pieces if you ever take it apart-detailed build, and large, looks very nice on display-some interesting building techniquesCONS:-The build was excruciating. It is extremely symmetrical which means you'll find yourself spending an hour of your life building the same components over and over, you start to get bored of what you're doing. For a 6000 piece set, you would be surprised at how small the instruction book is. Its because 75% of it is doing the same thing repeatedly-it just sits there, good if you have displays and are into models. But as a set to build with your kid, the end product will highly disappoint them. Unlike the Star Destroyer or even Hogwarts where they could use their imaginations to play with it or around it once its done. This set doesn't much, if any, play ability.-no play ability, see previous con.Overall, I'd say its worth it if you are into keeping it as a model, or getting started with big LEGO sets, its value is undeniably great. Definitely build with a friend if you can, the symmetry will drive you nuts and you will want someone there to help build the duplicate parts with you.
While the piece is gorgeous and definitely demands a presence in any room you place it in, it has some flaws. My biggest complaint is that it is very very unstable. It is nearly impossible to move it from one room to another or one surface to another without it falling apart and crashing to the ground. The base pieces do not fit together well and have nothing to afix them to each other except the small black round pieces. Also, the weight of the center piece is too heavy for the base when carrying, causing the base to implode inwards. My second gripe is that building the Taj Mahal is a little boring because of its symmetry. You basically just build the same things over and over again.
