A design that goes beyond initial build

This car will easily serve as an ongoing, interactive piece, talking to you from the coffee table, constantly asking 'what if we do...add...change...' This car is by far the best one Lego has done yet! It not only was a fun build but is also the coolest looking Lego car yet, in my opinion. I don't say this because I'm some crazed Mustang enthusiast or anything...I could care less about that. But, this has such a sleek look I've never seen out of Lego before. On top of that, it's a great-sturdy design. I liked the VW hippie van 10220 but found the fragility of it frustrating. Everytime I'd pick it up to look at it or study a technique, pieces would keep falling off and by the time I'd get it back together I'd forget what I was studying in the 1st place! This Mustang won't trouble you like that. It's a great model piece for MOC builders for reference, let alone modify. The doors (as mentioned in the YouTube video https://youtu.be/SquocJuoeyc) are a totally new, ingenious design for lego. This is something I will be studying for future MOC pieces for awhile as well as many other techniques hidden within this car.It took roughly 12 hours for me but others have reported less, and is pretty easy to follow. I can't think of any confusing steps and it made for 2 evenings of zen-like building. After completion I couldn't help to make a few changes myself (pics posted). Don't take that as a negative. This is one of the reasons why I absolutely love it! It already has 2 different set ups for personal preference-the original 1967 manufacturer car rolling off the assembly line, or the souped up muscle car you've been working on in the garage for years-but even on top of that, one can pick and choose a combination from those details. I personally, immediately stuck with the low rider front bumper and originally went with the side pipe exhaust (though changed it by the time of these pictures, which will soon further my point) while finding the stock hood scoop much more stylish over the steroided out blower intake (but I have to admit and give credit, it's amazing how perfectly the open hood rolls over the complex blower design! Very well built!). The spoiler, though looked great, I went back to the smooth hatchback, but again, that's the glory of it...it was just my own personal choice! At this point I began my own personal mods not included in the set but with amazing simplicity with my own stash of loose legos.Though the NOZ canister in the trunk was a nice touch, I decided a speaker box would be much cooler. I managed to easily build my own speaker box, (and as a side note-design idea to Lego-I would love to one day see a black 4x4 embossed screen mesh to cover the speakers with!) I added smooth tiles to represent floor mats inside, expanded the driver's dash, moved the seats up by one space (just because I'm not that tall) and then I scrapped the side pipes for running boards, but additionally redesigned the side pipes to straight pipes. Though I had to work with my own non-included pieces and couldn't use the colors I'd like to have, the fact that I could easily modify it, is an example of the freedom and flexibility this car delivers for personalization!I didn't use all the stickers (I like to build it to completion once before adding decals, only so I can save any I decide I don't like properly for future owners) but the two decals I had to use were the back bumper GT emblem and the license plate. The emblem looks great while the set includes a choice of 5 different plates-the traditional 'GT 1967', 3 various European designs (one of which is German and refers to an early concept designer Adam Grobowski, as mentioned in the included booklet) but I chose to stick with the 'P51 AK2' which is designer Mike Psiaki's 2nd plate, (as explained in the YouTube video) out of respect for such a great design. (Thank you Mike, and I look forward to the '63 Stingray...hint, hint!)The only complaint I can think of is the design of the rims, and this is minimal. The front wheels are connected to the steering wheel to turn left or right, which is friggin' cool, but the tires, when turned all the way hits the wheelwell. This is just a personal pet peeve of mine (take note Mike!). This is why, as seen in my pictures, I swapped out the front tires for a lower profile set of tires from another Creator set (any collector knows these tires from many various previous sets). I felt it looked much better, but, the other thing was the rims themselves. They are totally new rims to Lego and look amazing, but Lego Creator and Technic rims traditionally are double sided so one can pick from 2 different styles. These rims can still be flipped to create a deep dish look but weren't specifically designed for that. The back side of the spokes are hollowed out and I had to rework the axle stems (again, using personal stock of pieces, so don't expect to get this look from the box set) to fit them correctly. But, with that being said, it is a minimal gripe and in the end, they look great and are just another example of how this car gripped my interest long beyond original completion! So, in conclusion, whether you're a traditional Lego collector or an aspiring MOC master builder, this set will fill that building itch! You won't be disappointed! It's a beautiful piece either way, packed full of ideas and inspiration.

It merges all of my favourite things - LEGO, dark blue colour and Mustang. Lovely piece to display and stare at during long remote work sessions. The only issue with my set was that not every print on the doors is perfectly aligned - it is almost perfect but not as perfect as expected. Also there should be less stickers but truly speaking I understand that it's difficult to create one piece for one model. On the other hand the set is very fun to build and has tons of pieces and interesting techniques. I would recommend this set to everyone who's loving cars and LEGO. My favourite set and my favourite "lockdown present" and now I would say that it can be my only LEGO set for the rest of my life. It would be nice to see a black or yellow Dodge Charger or Challenger next to this set in the future (also with steering included). Very good set for Creator line, so keep it up!

An adult Lego set with great attention to detail

I bought this kit for my husband for Christmas, who thoroughly enjoyed doing it over three days. The attention to detail in the model is great, even in areas that don't show. The doors open, the seats fold forward, the wheels turn with the steering wheel, the boot and bonnet open with realistic interiors and the rear of the car can be raised or lowered. You can either have the engine fully contained under the bonnet or remove a few pieces to have a huge engine sticking up!This is the first time I've bought adult Lego, rather than helped with the kids who can now do their own, and I wasn't disappointed. Yes it was a lot of money but it was a Christmas present that did get attention.

Beautiful set, well worth the money!

I really enjoyed every aspect of this set! From reading the history of the Ford Mustang described in the beginning of the instruction manual, to building the set, to displaying it afterwards! It appears that the issue where some painted bricks didn't line up well has been fixed, all mine lined up perfectly right out of the box!The build was probably one of the more challenging sets I've made although not as complex as the Technic Porsche and Bugatti sets. I wish more Lego sets were designed like this! The engine looks awesome, the interior is very classy and the hidden adjustable suspension is a nice touch!I would like to mention that I was missing a single piece, a dark blue 1x10 plate. It's an odd piece to go missing but I looked back at the bags, the box, and all around my build area but didn't see that piece. Fortunately it's not very noticeable I've already sent a request for a replacement piece. With that said, I haven't read any other reviews with this piece missing so I expect it's simply a single set mistake. I hope my request all goes through properly so I can actually complete the set!

Fun To Steer Around The House!
8 May 2020

This set took a long time to build, but was totally worth it! I love all the fancy upgrades you can add to your Mustang like side exhaust pipes, a spoiler at the back, the big engine up front, the air dam and all the license plates for Michigan, California, Australia, UK and Germany! This set was pretty hard but the set comes with a brick separator and there are red 1 by 1 studs when you are building to remain focused. As you can tell from my title this set has working steering which is one of the first things you build, I have so much fun driving it across the kitchen floor even though this is supposed to be displayed. Aside from the steering there are a lot of things to open including the trunk, hood, roof and doors. Aside from the steering there are a lot of things to open including the trunk, hood, roof and doors. The interior is superb as well with a FM radio, gearshift and leather seats. There are a few prints on the set however the prints on the door don't line up but from a distance looked okay. The racing stripes that run from front to back are prints too, and from the reviews I read they made a big deal of how they were segmented, so I was scared to see them in real life but they aren't that bad, sure they're cut off a bit at the end but it's fine. One thing that is annoying is the side mirrors. you have to constantly adjust them over and over so this set takes a lot of patience. Another thing that bugs me is that there are gaps between the backside and trunk lid which ruins the effect of a real car. But aside from those things I think personally that this is the best Creator Expert car LEGO has released, but don't take that to heart because this is also the only Creator Expert car I have so yeah! For more details you should check out the designer video for this cool car!

Good looking addition to the Mustang!

At first I’m a big fan of traditional and original looking sets. That’s why I only used the front lights and the rear lights for the Mustang. They are very easy to assemble and to hide within the set. The instructions are very well designed, you won’t make a mistake. Why I choose four stars? There are some electronic parts which you need to attach (with some sort of sticking gum) directly to the Lego Parts and I’m not sure about getting stains or else from it. I attached them with other Lego Parts.

Rekindling interest

I’m 36 and I like to describe myself as a life-long LEGO fan but there has been a long stretch of my life after I moved out of my parent’s house when I barely had any LEGO where I lived.Until this Ford Mustang set.Even without actively buying or building LEGOs, I couldn’t really escape LEGO marketing, not in New York where there are two separate LEGO stores. I’ve seen some creator cars sets but until this one, none had caught my attention enough to warrant a purchase.Either the models weren’t true enough to the real world inspiration, or I was just not interested in the real world inspiration. But this set was the perfect intersection of a nice rendition of a car I am interested in. The working steering was just the icing on an already very appetizing cake and made me decide on the purchase in May 2019.I don’t remember the build experience itself, but I know it’s been sitting prominently on my successive shelves ever since, with and without the add-ons.I knocked a point off playability because even with working steering and adjustable rear ride height, it still is a display set at heart. And a fine one at that.

Remote

Hi All,The Only thing I didn’t like is the Stringy lights (Lights all on one wire) But that’s my Dislike on ALL light kits with Stringy Lights (I like Single Individual Wire Lights).Everything went together perfectly, Head Lights, Fog/Spot Lights, Interior/Boot Light, Rear Lights & Engine/Exhaust Lights. The Only thing I Changed was the Remote/Light Circuit board, Instead of putting it in the Back Seat I relocated it Under the Chassis (Out of Sight, Out of Mind). The Lights & Wires are of top Quality Material (NOT Flimsy or Sub-Standard)Liked this kit, Not Over powering, Just the right Amount of Lights 👍.

The Ford Mustang Fastback is my favourite classic car, and I turned down the opportunity to buy it and spent the money in a house instead. So had no hesitation in buying this at launch, and finally got around to building it.It’s a model I’d really recommend for anyone who loves cars as this is probably the most detailed car model (outside the technic range).Pros:- love the shape.- lots of bespoke and specialised pieces, alongside printed pieces for the emblems and badges.- mechanisms for both the steering and the suspension work well (although I had to rebuild the suspension as I built it backwards).- have some additional modifications to allow you to switch between the classic and Fastback model.Cons:- had around 7 small pieces missing - although ... MoreThe Ford Mustang Fastback is my favourite classic car, and I turned down the opportunity to buy it and spent the money in a house instead. So had no hesitation in buying this at launch, and finally got around to building it.It’s a model I’d really recommend for anyone who loves cars as this is probably the most detailed car model (outside the technic range).Pros:- love the shape.- lots of bespoke and specialised pieces, alongside printed pieces for the emblems and badges.- mechanisms for both the steering and the suspension work well (although I had to rebuild the suspension as I built it backwards).- have some additional modifications to allow you to switch between the classic and Fastback model.Cons:- had around 7 small pieces missing - although Lego have replaced these without any issues which I appreciate.- air blower doesn’t do anything, could’ve been improved if some additional gears were built into it to allow more movement.Ultimately, I live this model, it’s probably the most fun and detailed model I’ve done within the Expert range and is something I’d really recommend to anyone who has a love for massif cars and wants something great to look at once it’s finished.

Hands down best set I own. The ford mustang is my absolute favorite car and this represents it perfectly weather you want it jacked up ready to shred the track or just nice and casual. The additions they give you to add on the car let you customize this masterpiece to perfection. The function where you can lift up the car in the back is awesome. This set is packed with details and functions. The doors open and the front two seats fold forward to access the back seats just like on the real car. The detailed engine looks fantastic and the steering wheel that allows you to turn the wheels is by far my favorite. They also made the front and the back of the car look extremely accurate to the real thing. The build does have a lot of technic but that doesn't take to long ... MoreHands down best set I own. The alternative license plates are pretty cool as well. The set is a relatively quick build but there are a couple parts that might take a while. This is a little pricey but if you can afford it it is definitely worth it. It looks amazing on display especially nest to the creator expert Aston martin which I also highly recommend. The set is not to be played with. It is meant to be a display piece. Also if you are worried about stickers don't be. The stripe down the middle and the stripes on the side are all printed pieces.
