LEGO 21028 New York City - Architecture

This Lego Archetecture set of NYC is a beautiful piece once created. Such attention to detail was paid. The scaling makes you realize just how tall the buildings are when compared to The Statue of Liberty. It was not that hard to build, you get a step by step booklet like in all lego sets. Definitely worth checking out, makes a great gift for Lego/NY lovers!

Legos have always been one of my favorite past times and hobbies since I was old enough to build them! Im always in awe of how the Lego creators are able to visualize something and build it up using their blocks. It’s super creative and really outstanding how they can consistently do this without fail! I’ve built so many Legos throughout my life, from tiny sets to huge sets, so I’d call myself a decently experienced Lego builder although I don’t do it as often as I used to. The set that I most recently built was a New York City set, and I think it came out super cool. I really like all the little details in it such as the clear blocks at the bottom imitating water in a lake. It’s super realistic and I think it was listed at a pretty good price. I got it at an offical Lego store in a mall for about $50. I felt like this was a good deal for such a cool and complex set with a lot to observe. Lego instructions are always clear and easy to follow, so I had no issues building this and it was rather quick. The only complaint I might have is that it’s a bit flimsy and has to be held with two hands usually. If it’s held in one hand it feels like it may break or come apart so it has to be quick if held in one hand. I have it on display now in my room, but if you are from New York I’d suggest getting this as it’s a really cool set. Either way this model features some of the most iconic skyscrapers in the country, possibly the world. Finally, my personal favorite building in the model and the city, One World Trade Center is another where the scale LEGO built this in makes it so difficult to accurately represent, and I applaud LEGO for their efforts. I rated this as a 1 out of 5 in terms of play value because it’s literally not for play.

First Architecture Set

I have been spending a lot of time building/playing with Lego with our children. However, building Lego with small children, though rewarding in its own way, is not relaxing. That is why I decided to try this set out myself, without the kid's help. Overall, I enjoyed this set, but I do have several issues and items I can share for those contemplating trying out the Architecture line.This set was very repetitive, which, on first glance, sounds like a negative. However, I found the sorting and repetitive use of similar elements to be soothing. The limited number of colors used in this set helped to make the sorting process much simpler, but did make it a little harder to find pieces a little harder during the build.The Instruction booklet is very nicely laid out. ... MoreI have been spending a lot of time building/playing with Lego with our children. I enjoy reading about the places which the build represents. I would have preferred if the beginning section were spread out throughout the book, with facts about each building coming right before you built that building.The instructions begin with the all black base the set rests on. This consists mostly of plates with some tiles. However, there was an interesting section with some bars towards the end of the base build that inspired me to wonder where this would be leading.Next, you build the Statue of liberty. the statue itself is represented by a sand green microfigure, which is fun, but it is small and the base is not that interestsing.After that comes the Empire State building. This structure is covered with 1x2 tan grills. It does use some interesting techniques, but it was the most repetitive part of the build.The Chrysler Building was mostly just stacked plates and jumpers, but did have a interesting top section. My biggest complaint with this building was the difficulty of disassembly. All of those stacked plates are a pain to seperate.I was underwhelmed with the Flat Iron Building. It was essentially just stacked wedge plates, but it was small and easy to complete.One World Trade Center was the most interesting part of the build. It utilized some innovative techniques to accomplish the offset structure of the various levels.Overall, I enjoyed building this set alone. It really has no "play value" as it is just a display piece. I enjoyed this build enough that I did later purchase the larger Statue of Liberty sets to go with it.

First Ever Full Lego Set

When I was a child, the only Lego sets I collected in the early to mid 90s were earned through a promotion with Kellogg’s cereal where you mail the form with several UPC codes, if I remember. It was four sets of 30+ pieces and were of a race car, glider, boat and helicopter. Fast forward to now, I win this set at a company raffle and was hooked after that. I took 4 hours of uninterrupted building. Mentally, I did get a little frustrated during the built. After each completed task, I felt I’m never going to finish, even with this 598 piece set. I wanted to be easy and finish fast. I didn’t enjoy at first as I hoped I would. So I forced myself to break it down brick by brick and start over. I needed to take time building and enjoy it. I’m an engineer by trade and really come to appreciate the little details of each brick, component, and building of this set, and many sets that followed. The spare bricks and little statue were a plus. Looking forward to building other Lego sets!

Fun

My almost 7yo son purchased this set from Target with money he received for getting straight A’s on his report card. He is very into Lego and can build sets that are more advanced for his age with minimal help (usually the only help he requires is unsnapping pieces or locating pieces from a bag) He had this set built in about 3 hours. He loves it. He also has built the London architecture set. Considering the Statue of Liberty for his 7th birthday.

Incredible Set!

I used to be all about minifigures when it came to LEGO until I got the Statue of Liberty architecture set. Now I love the architecture series, and this set is a great addition! Totally worth the hour it took to build. There was one mistake I found but others have addressed it so I won't go into detail. I think it would be epic to see a full-scale World Trade Center set.

It's up to you

I liked half of this set. There were many interesting assembly twists. A plus that various buildings attach to the base in different ways. I am most pleased with the feel and appearance of the Empire State Building; it was fun to build. I would also rate the Flatiron as a success, though much simpler. What detracted from the set: The Statue of Liberty is actually in New Jersey, so having it as part of NY City is not a good choice. WTC 1 in the set is as unappealing as the actual building; I would assume any tourists who go here are there for a different reason than to see this monstrosity. The parts bags could have been packed with more thought- maybe sorted by building, to avoid having all the little blocks open at once.Recommended as a component of a collection, ... MoreI liked half of this set. Small but Mighty!

I loved building this set round my sisters today, she's a massive Lego fan and I'm a huge fan of NYC & decided to do a travel wall in my bedroom of places visited & this was the first set I have ordered to begin my Lego building journey as an adult.I was expecting the pieces bags to come numbered so it did confuse me at first when building the base that I needed to open all the bags but once sorted I loved how majority of all the pieces came together so neatly and perfectly, it has beautiful lines. It's small but mighty and oozes class.My only issue I have is that the one world tarde centre is not as sturdy and doesn't go into place as nicely as the other buildings, but looking at it you wouldn't know until you touch it. This skyline set is fantastic when displayed with a light gray background on a black shelf, as mine is. I like how most buildings here can be displayed from more than one angle, although the Flatiron Building is a little bit bland from the backside. Still, you have to understand that at that small of a scale, that was probably the most appropriate thing for the designers to do, so I respect them for making that decision. That goes for the Statue of Liberty as well, as I read some of the other reviews here, and that also was probably the best choice for the designers to do was using that small sand-green microfigure.
