With the LEGO Architecture Set "Empire State Building" (21046), you can elevate your LEGO building skills. The Empire State Building stands in the heart of New York City, towering over the surrounding skyscrapers. Construction of the building began on March 17, 1930, and just a year and 45 days later, it was inaugurated on May 1, 1931. The height of the structure was further increased in 1950 with the installation of the famous antenna. At a height of 55 cm, it is the tallest LEGO Architecture model to date (as of July 2019). As a highly detailed, collectible replica, it accurately reflects the symmetry of the four curtain walls and the Art Deco architectural style. The baseplate, which features the Fifth Avenue and surrounding streets, along with yellow taxis and a decorative nameplate, completes this model. This displayable model offers an interesting and rewarding building experience and serves as a striking piece for any home or office. It has been designed for all those who are interested in travel, architecture, history, and design.

5 pieces missing :(

Instructions are very easy to follow, however it is a binded instruction book, not something you can really lay it flat. So I used the Lego PDF reader to view the instructions.I'll discuss the cons of this set. The set I received, I encountered about 5 missing pieces. Now from what I understand having missing pieces in lego sets is very rare. I haven't bought a lego set since 2010. So maybe the QA might have gone done. So reviewing based on what I got, having missing 5 pieces that contributed having me to request a missing pieces form and waiting an additional 7-10 days for it to ship to complete build is quite disappointing. The model does indeed look like the Empire State Building. Even down to the escalators in 1st floor which is absolutely amazing. The building techniques doing each section was enjoyable and never had a moment of figuring out the process of the build (another than trying to find pieces that was in fact missing).Overall, if the set was indeed 100% free of missing pieces, I would have given it 5/5 stars but having experienced what I encountered, I sadly had to knockdown 2 stars for the missing pieces and the premium price that had to be paid. I was debating whether to return and exchange for another set but since I was about 80% of the way through, it felt too much to put everything back in the bags to return it.

This Lego kit enables you to build a detailed scale model of the Empire State building. Fully built out, the model is 21.5”x 8”x8”. The building has both internal and external structure, topped with a radio tower. This building is not to the same scale as Lego action sets, so no mini-figures are included. Indeed, the yellow “cabs” on ground level are made with just 2 very small bricks, and still they are a bit bigger than scale. Special pieces include the 684 grill pieces used for the façade, as well as the radio tower elements. Lego rates this kit for ages 16+.My 20-year-old nephew loves this kit. Such a great thing ... an adult Lego set! There are a lot of steps, so you need to take your time and read all the very precise directions. I loved building this and can't wait to find another challenging one to build. I posted pictures to my friends on Facebook at the end of each of the 5 parts and received lots of very excellent comments. People LOVE Legos! It was extremely entertaining, kept me well engaged, it is very durable and I would highly recommend this to anyone who can get their hands on one.

This is my second introduction to modern legos as an adult. These sets are definitely worlds away from the traditional childhood sets that I used to build. I chose this set because it appealed to the adult as well as the inner child in me. These Architecture model kits appear more on the mature side offering enough challenge to keep one interested as well as has all the nostalgia of my childhood bricking days. I also felt it would make a fantastic display piece. I just completed the Trafalgar Square Building and thought this would be a nice addition to my newest slowly growing obsession, which is to build a LEGO town. I admit I am getting a teensy bit addicted to these sets and want to expand my LEGO town. What town would be complete without skyscrapers and you can never go wrong with the magnificent Empire State Building. The box comes with photo instruction booklets and LEGO bags that are numerical so that you can choose the corresponding bag according to what stage in the build you’re in. While I admit the Trafalgar build was a bit more interesting than the Empire State Building due to a lot of repetition and hardly any colorful pieces, it was still a fun build. The fun mainly comes when seeing the complete masterpiece of a finished set. You’re in awe of how everything came together & all the detail. The skyscraper looks great for displaying or adding to your LEGO town. I would say this Building doesn’t offer as much playability as the Trafalgar Building but perhaps adding some mini figures & little imaginations can do wonderful things. I love the little yellow cabs in front of the building, it screams NYC.Experienced builders under the recommended age can participate in this build with no problem. Overall, if you love skyscrapers or popular landmarks or just simply a big NYC fan, this would be a fun project to own. I highly recommend it.

What a great set! This is a fairly quick & easy build for a 1,767pc set (about 3 hours), but the results are quite impressive! LEGO's really done a nice job capturing the building's details & using some creative building techniques to pull off the appearance so accurately. It's a great display piece & it's remarkably sturdy for its size - About as rock solid as a LEGO set can get. Don't be scared off by the "16+" on this one if you're gifting; plenty of younger builders would have no problem. It was a fun build & while I love the Architecture skyline series, I really hope they keep doing more large buildings like this, too. Both are great sets that look amazing & take up a small footprint on display. I'd probably put the Empire State Building 3rd behind the Saturn V & Voltron for sets under $200. Honorable mention to the Statue of Liberty, as well. All 4 sets are remarkably well done designs you can't help but marvel at every time you pass them by.

He built the entire set almost on his own, though he did need my husband's help with one of the steps because he was misinterpreting the directions. Altogether, he only needed a couple of hours to complete the set.The finished product is very impressive. He keeps it on a shelf in his room, like a model, along with his other skyline set. It has some fun details, like mini taxis along the street in front of the building. I'd definitely recommend this set to other avid Lego fans, particularly any who love architecture and/or skyscrapers.

INCREDIBLE build experience

tbh, and I'll bet many are also like this, the set looks boring at first glance. I watched a couple youtube reviews on it and they shared this concern I had, but they also said basically "Nono, this is a FUN build, like a pure brick building experience", so I decided to get it. Not a single thing to regret. Tons of pieces for the price, it looks amazing in-person, and it's sturdy enough that you can lift it by nearly the top without it coming apart. DEFINITELY get if you like lego. I just wish they'd come out with a Chrysler building and a Burj Al Arab set. I love that architecture.

More fun than I thought it could be
8 March 2021

My adult daughter loves these things. Sometimes they sit around for months waiting for a special day to break the seal, as was the case with her Christmas gift. I thought an intermediate size architectural kit would be something we could open and do together. The Empire State Building was the perfect balance between something small enough to do and have fun with without getting bogged down in something that would take forever and sit around waiting for us to get motivated. There were virtually no challenges in putting this together, and it looked really great when completed--far better than the Eiffel Tower or the very weak and small Sydney Opera House. We had no missing parts (a few extra ones were there, but don't think we left anything out), and the instructions ... MoreMy adult daughter loves these things. This is definitely a kit that could be built by someone who had never attempted a LEGO project before.

Nice model of iconic building
3 September 2019

While we are big Lego lovers in my house, this is my first Architecture theme set. This is an interesting set; some more detailed thoughts about the set and the series.* Building a model, not a toy. This set (and the series in general) is about reproducing iconic buildings, landscapes, and other man-made structures. From individual buildings to skylines to feats of human engineering like the Great Wall of China, you are building a model that's left to be admired and collected not really played with.* Build. Separated into 5 sections (with a couple sections having more than one associated bag.) The build generally broke out into these steps. 1) Build the foundation, 2) Build a foundational central tower, 3) Pad out and face the central tower. I will note that this build a a LOT of symmetry and a LOT of placing of the grate pieces onto the outside walls. If one if looking for variety of build with little repetition of steps, this is definitely not the build for you.* Time to build. I would estimate the entire build took about 3 hours.* Final model. Looks great in my humble opinion. Yes, the color scheme is fairly monotone, but it is still a great looking model. My personal favorite bit is the miniature cabs around the base of the skyscraper.* Instructions. Peppered throughout a very nice instruction book are little details about the building along with some detail at the start.* Sturdiness. Simply due to the design the final build is hefty and sturdy feeling. In summary, this is a model that will create a very nice rendition of a NYC landmark and why I'm giving it 5 stars. I will admit that the build itself is just so-so in my opinion (I like more variety in my builds), and I would recommend those that dislike repeating steps or building with lots or little fascia pieces to look elsewhere. But for those that want to add a nice piece to the architecture collection and don't mind repetition in the builds this is recommended.
