LEGO 21323 Grand Piano - Ideas

This is the most expensive Lego set I've ever purchased and built and it does partially live up to that, which I'll get back to later on.This is a fantastically detailed and beautifully designed set and feels bigger than it suggests on paper; it was a very interesting build process to see through to the end. It is cool learning how the keys, as repetitive as they got, are arranged and set up, how the curvy shaping and sides were formed and seeing it all come together is very satisfying.I already know of the flaws this set has which I will not repeat here. However, my main issue with this set is the price itself and where it is positioned; I actually do understand why it costs as much as it does and it is justified due to the amount of pieces, granted a lot of which are tiny, but there are plenty of unusual ones like the curved pieces as well as a few large pieces, plus the Powered UP motor and hub.But despite all that and it feeling relatively large, its size pales in comparison to other impressive sets that are not only a lot bigger than this, but also less costly; the Disney Castle and a fellow Ideas set Pirates of Barracuda Bay to name a few, the latter of which is only just over half the price of the Grand Piano and is a lot larger despite having around a third less pieces. They don't have Powered UP functions of course but it gives an idea of what other impressive sets are available. And two very large Harry Potter sets, Hogwarts Castle and Diagon Alley cost very slightly more.Make no mistake, the Grand Piano is a fantastic set in its own right and does justify its price, but you have to really want this. And you must also bear in mind that there is a lot of other sets that are equally, if not more fantastic which are less costly as well as bigger, even if personal tastes on themes like Harry Potter and Star Wars will vary.

I'm a "Technic" guy and love to see how Lego replicates real-life objects with Lego bricks. I get all the hates about this set saying it's misleading. I do get it, yeah it's kind of misleading, but seriously, If you know anything about Lego, you would know it's impossible for it to be "playable" like a real piano at this scale and price. I like the way this set is, how it replicates all the important details of a real piano while offering some playability which the original design didn't.Finally, I did find some issue about this set however, that the reset function didn't work so well to put the keys into their neutral position. I like the way this set is, how it replicates all the important details of a real piano while offering some playability which the original design didn't.Finally, I did find some issue about this set however, that the reset function didn't work so well to put the keys into their neutral position. The reason for this is that the technic beams that touches each other to stop the motor when rotating backward do not touch closely enough, plus the axle is too long that at the very end it's actually a little twisted. I've managed to somewhat improve it by adding a rubber band on the orange beam 2 to widen it just a little bit. But after you widen it, it will collide with the rubber axle connector so the "listen" function doesn't work very well, in order to fix that I replaced the rubber axle connector with the spare gold piece to fill the axle (don't know what it's called lol, see the attached pic for a better look). After all that changes, it's been working perfectly for me.I think overall it's a beautiful set, the building experience is a little bit tedious due the nature of the object, but none the less an amazing set.

Soon after finishing the Lambo Sian, I received my Piano. Wow! What a piece of art, engineering, details and the app to make it sound as if real, extreme! No missing parts, instructions were great and the inclusion of the power up parts, made the kit complete! Like always, I took my sweet old time placing together the detailed parts while remembering old memories of my father and I working together repairing piano accordions. He was a master accordionist, teacher, mentor of many that still today, earn their living with that profession. The accordion parts are basically identical as those on the piano, just arranged differently. The kit is so real life detailed! The moving parts seem to follow the music as if really playing. I had the same problem many people had spoken about that the piano keys do not reset to fully flat, but there are many good ideas on how to solve the issue, its a matter of trying. I was thinking of using white cotton gloves to assemble it in order to prevent fingerprints or finger oil to contaminate the beautiful black and white parts but I could not get them and now I don't know what to utilize to make them shiny again! Any thoughts? My wife loves Barbies and we set one sitting on the piano’s chair as if she was playing and it looks gorgeous! Both my brothers and wife were born in September and guess what their birthday song was and when it came from? The Grand Piano with Happy Birthday song from the app! I hope, well, I should expect that Lego keep updating the app with more songs and, perhaps, some future upgrades for the Piano. It is the center piece of my vast Lego collection, sitting in the middle of our living room for all our friends and family to enjoy. Magnificent piece of art! Thank you for the memories too.
