I got the Newbury Abandoned Prison Lego set for my grandson. He loves all kinds of Lego sets & plays with them almost every day. This set is another addition to the Hidden Side theme. The set comes with 400 pieces that have a lot of detail, 4 characters & 2 dogs. This set combines the physical building of the set with virtual play once the Augmented Reality app has been downloaded to a compatible device. My grandson really had a lot of fun building the set. He took his time to make sure he got every piece in its proper place (he’s a bit of a perfectionist!). He played with this for several days before he tried to play the virtual game. My 9 year old grandson loved putting this set together. The instructions are really easy to follow. It kept him busy all morning. Younger kids would also enjoy putting it together with a parent.

My 5yo son really enjoyed building this set. We liked the details, such as the abandoned basketball court complete with basketball and the interchangeable head for the prison guard. Using the Hidden Side app is a bonus, but my son prefers the actual physical play with the set.

I received the Newburyport Abandoned Prison LEGO set. It arrived with lots of pieces. It was intended for my 7 year old but of course it was too complicated for her to assemble alone. Which I figured. Took me about 30 minutes to put together. She enjoyed it for about 10 and that was it. It’s a cool toy with small parts so not for small children. I would say 7 and up. If your child is into legos this is a cool one for them. It has moving jail doors and other parts. All in all I wasn’t disappointed in the product itself, it’s just wasn’t something for you 7 year old daughter.
My 8 year old son loved this LEGO set. He has been on the LEGO building kick, and he really enjoyed building this. He was pretty much able to do the whole thing himself with a small amount of help from me. The best part is that he was able to connect it to his iPad. He loved this because he was able to enjoy it even after it was done being built. The added details and the extra playability is what I find he enjoyed most. We will be getting him another interactive LEGO set like this soon.
The Newbury Abandoned Prison LEGO set was one of the more challenging sets to put together because there is so many pieces. It comes with 3 bags of pieces to put together. The directions are easy to follow on some parts but some others you need to look at the photo closely to see where they go. It took me about two hours to complete put the Newbury Abandoned Prison LEGO set together. Once put together you can switch between two sets the regular scene then a “haunted” scene. So it’s like two sets in one. The little dogs included in the set don’t connect that great to the LEGO base and the cells are small to fit fingers in to connect the characters to the base. Other then those very minor things the set is very nicely made. My child has had many hours playing with it ... This is not a regular LEGO set. My 6 year old son was able to build it mostly by himself. Now this set is for 7+ but I will say my son is advanced for his age so it was perfect for him. He loves that not only can he use his imagination and play with it in real life, but he can also hunt ghosts while playing. This set has brought countless hours of play and imagination already. I always try and get my kids off devices, but this is one game I am definitely fine with him playing.
So I put this together with my son who is a HUGE Lego fan and besides just a little helping, he was able to put it all together himself! He really loved that it was almost two sets in one. He liked that it was "normal" and then turned haunted. When he was done playing with the set by himself, he would then turn to the app and get even more enjoyment out of it. He says that his favorite piece out of it was the dog. It was different then anything he had seen before.
The Lego Newbury Abandoned Prison set is hours of fun. My 11 year old daughter spends hours playing with this set and when she wants more of a game experience then she has the app dowloaded on her iPad that she can battle ghosts and have more of a video game experience. The set was not too difficult to assemble and the app was easy to setup. The inplay instructions are easy to follow. The addition of the game experience is a great addition to an already fun Lego set.
This build was so much fun! It was so interactive that both my son and myself had fun playing with this. This is really fun for all ages! It was a bit of a challenge to build but it was definitely worth the challenge. It did take awhile to build but again, that’s expected with so many pieces and that’s all part of the fun. I’d definitely buy this again and look forward to more styles like this. So fun!
