LEGO 75946 Harry Potter Hungarian Horntail Triwizard Challenge

My little one loves Harry Potter. He was pleased with this play set. Very easy to assemble. The figures are cute but a little tricky to make them stand up the perfect gift for young kids.

A GREAT toy, a fair display model

So, I was a bit wary purchasing this set at first (judging from the 3.0 rating it started with on here), but I actually really like it! I debated over giving it 5 or 4 stars, but the value for the money is really good, and the champion minifigures are gorgeous, so I decided on a 5.0 ratingIt's very playable. The dragon isn't the most accurate representation, but it is extremely well-articulated, does not fall apart and is fun to play with. (I'm also assuming that LEGO did the articulated model because the budget for this set is smaller, and the moulded animals usually cost a lot.)The figures are awesome, and the gold egg is too. (You can also just change out some of the colors on this model to give yourself some variety.)Lastly, the tent. It's a little plain, but we get some nice furniture builds, and it is fairly accurate. It's a nice addition, especially because you can have Hermione, Dumbledore and Madame Maxime (from the other sets) interact with Harry and Fleur before the challenge.I would also recommend mixing this set with the Qudditch one (linked below). I believe the Quidditch field was used for this challenge in the books and movies. But the play features of the Quidditch towers mixed with the dragon give you a lot of ways for the dragon to terrorize the audience and for the champions to jump through and dodge the dragon.Overall, I think this is a really good value for the money and I would definitely recommend it! Again, I was really torn over whether to give this four or five stars, but because of the minifigures, and the reasonable price, I'm leaning towards 5.

Dragon is off...

So this isn’t a terrible set. I think the value is pretty good! And LEGO nailed the minifigures with this set. However, there’s a few problems. The tent is too bland. I’m not a fan of stickers but some stickers on the outside could’ve went a long way. And the main problem-the dragon doesn’t look anything like the Hungarian horn tail! The original set looked better. This dragon looks more like a hawk or a bird of some kind. The neck and head are too small, and the printing of the horns on the head fails to give it the proper depth. The head is too small and oddly shaped. This simply doesn’t resemble the dragon in the movie! Lego, you nailed the figures and the value but you totally missed with the dragon. So disappointing.

Excellen instructions even a 7 year old can follow

My son is 7 years old and loves Harry Potter and Legos. He had some money he had saved up and he decided to purchase this set. He was able to put it together 100% by himself due to perfectly illustrated and detailed instructions. He was so proud of himself when he finished the dragon and couldn't stop playing with it. He had some problems with the hut staying together, but all in all, he is very happy with his purchase!

Get The Egg

The main focus of this kit is the dragon itself. I have to admit it is a great looking dragon that is truly poseable. The problem I have is the spines on the head kept falling out every time I posed him. Not a massive problem for me as it is ultimately going in my display cabinet with the rest of my Lego Wizarding World Of Harry Potter constructions. In fact, I only really got this because I am up to date with the larger builds and decided to start getting the smaller kits for completeness sake.I did like the reproduction of the challenge tent, especially as it folds away so looks just like a little square until you open it up. Even have the little cot where they treat Cedric Diggory for his burns from his attempt at the challenge.Apart from the spine shedding ... MoreThe main focus of this kit is the dragon itself. Great dragon set

This is the 2nd Hungarian Horntail set (the first #4767 was from 2005). This set has a much better poseable dragon made from many pieces, whereas the previous had a solid body and legs. It has a similar number of pieces and price. This set contains all 4 Triwizard champion Minifigs (Fleur and Cedric were not in any sets in 2005, so I made my own). I look forward to getting some blue pieces to change it out and make a Swedish Short-Snout (Cedric's dragon). The first set had more action in the form of a catapult launching Harry's broom, collapsible stands as the dragon breaks loose, and a magnet for a minifig to hold and capture the golden egg. It looks like it has more pieces, but it's taken up by 4 big rock panels and 1 dragon body. Harry. Lego. FTW.

Awesome detail. Super fun for kiddos... great for a little family time away from a screen. Shut down the tech and build something with the kiddos. Directions are easy to follow. Teen & 8yr old put it together quick.

I've done my waiting! ...12 YEARS OF IT! In Azkaban!

This is a very cool set. You've got Lego's new, Sirius Black, his godson, Harry Potter, Two Dementors, and The Patrounus Stag! It comes with two wands (One for Harry and an extra one in case you lose one). The landscape matches very well to the film. There's a tree that can fire Expecto Patronum, which is a little weird. But all in all, an excellent set with a total of 121 pieces. Get it for a Potterhead and they'll love it.

Not what I was expecting

I don't WANT to say it but this set is unbelievably disappointing. In the films, the dragon is pretty big and its head actually looks cool. Lego used a questionable head mold and it just looks ugly. In hand, its better than in the pictures but the mold also feels quite flimsy. The body is just. Weird. The dragon just doesn't look good in any way. it's a real shame. I honestly would have been 10x happier if they had used the 2010 castle dragon mold if you know what I'm talking about. The tent is small but it's not lacking like the dragon is.The figures are fantastic with the exception of Krum. His hairpiece just isn't doing it for me. Looks more like Dennis Nedry from Jurassic Park.the little golden egg/rock combo is fine. Doesn't need to be any bigger or smaller so that's good. It's just a real let down with the dragon. I know they couldn't have gone too big because this was meant to be around the $30-$50 price range. But if you can't get a good dragon then I would have made the second challenge. What the sett excels at is playability. The dragon although ugly works quite well for it's purpose. The wings feel sturdy but the will probably wear out quickly. The scene this is from (movies, not books. where Harry just kind of confused it.) is exciting enough that I think young collectors and adults will really enjoy re-creating this scene.I'm very torn with this set. It's good but bad. But great. But disappointing. This really is your decision.

Well made, some issues

I've been building for 14 years so this might be overly critical, but:Received this as a gift for my birthday- decent box. Minifigs are good, particularly Cedric. The dragon is rather bird-like and small, but highly posable while maintaining good structure, decent strength in the joints which is often an issue with animal builds. the Tent felt like an unnecessary addition to post the price, I would have rather seen it's pieces go to the dragon.New broomstick build has potential, I think it's a decent size but the kickstand isn't fixed and spins around.
