LEGO City Cargo Train 60198 Exclusive Remote Control Train Building SE

Amazing! My son wanted this retired Lego train set for Christmas and I couldn’t find it for a reasonable price anywhere. Through StockX I paid about the original retail price with shipping. I ordered it in early December and it was here well in time for Christmas! I would not hesitate to shop with StockX again!!

My son is obsessed with trains and Legos so when we got this set he was super excited. It is a lot of pieces but not overwhelming at all. The directions and assembly were relatively easy for an adult and child with adult guidance. The train moves well with the remote and app set up. While the tracks were OK to connect, I do wish they felt a bit more thick. The overall set is fun and the track can be made various ways. We added some tracks to ours. The cost is high but average for similar sets from lego. As far as the cost being worth it? Maybe if you have a designated table or space and don't have a child who takes things apart or if it is for an adult but otherwise it seems expensive for something where the pieces will probably be lost. Ours is currently ... MoreMy son is obsessed with trains and Legos so when we got this set he was super excited. It is a lot of pieces but not overwhelming at all. A present for a little boy

When my older brother talked with me about the family gathering to purchase such an expensive Lego for a little bopy's 4th birthday, I was ready to do my part.Being a lego fan for almost 37 years (i'm 40, so for how long I remember myself!), and being the main guilty party that my nephews and niece for loving lego (they are 4, 7 and 9).For several reasons the build process was up to me and my older brother, but the look on the Pedro's (the birthday boy) face meant we need to get it build on a fast pace, and it was worthy! As soon as the train was build he started to prepare the tracks to race with the other train set that he already has (the 60197) .The story been told now for the review...although a bit expensive, we can see where the money goes, with over ... MoreWhen my older brother talked with me about the family gathering to purchase such an expensive Lego for a little bopy's 4th birthday, I was ready to do my part.Being a lego fan for almost 37 years (i'm 40, so for how long I remember myself!), and being the main guilty party that my nephews and niece for loving lego (they are 4, 7 and 9).For several reasons the build process was up to me and my older brother, but the look on the Pedro's (the birthday boy) face meant we need to get it build on a fast pace, and it was worthy! Cargo train lacking

First I would say that the new power up system is not something I am a fan of... disappointed that Lego has changed the train control again if I have proper count this is the 5th change with the new system unless you download the app you are stuck with 1 train to a controller. Next I can only figure that the price is because of the power up it is not due to the detail put in, lazy use of 2x2 tiles behind doors instead of even attempting some form of motor on the crane, could have added some 2x2 round tiles with the wood grain cut for the logs. Maybe add some crossing gates for the rail crossing. Where are the control lever or 2 for the forklift. This is my mark against the price, still love Lego trains. I vote Go back to the electric train or stay with the power ... MoreFirst I would say that the new power up system is not something I am a fan of... disappointed that Lego has changed the train control again if I have proper count this is the 5th change with the new system unless you download the app you are stuck with 1 train to a controller. Great Train Set, get Powered-Up!

This train set has great play value. Four train vehicles, two road vehicles, removable loads and the signal box, buffers and level crossing that make the railway scene. It is one of the best LEGO train sets I have bought since 1990. As a long-time fan I still like the versatility of the earlier 12V trains even though the power technology has developed since that era.As an adult fan and an engineer I bought two of these train sets so that I could test the new Powered-Up technology. Linking one handset to one hub was straightforward, using the instructions in the set. Linking two hubs to one handset was more difficult but there are instructions in the LEGO community forum online and I got there after some trial and error. Linking one handset to one hub was straightforward, using the instructions in the set. Linking two hubs to one handset was more difficult but there are instructions in the LEGO community forum online and I got there after some trial and error. Once you have linked one hub to the handset, turn it off, link another and then turn the first one on again. This seemed to work most of the time. Once it had worked I could move the hubs between the 5 channels happily, having them either on the same channel and acting together, or on different channels with the handset switching between the two active channels as its green button was pressed. I wonder if I could have 2 or more hubs on each of the 5 channels, for double-header trains? Is the limit 5 channels (with multiple hubs per channel) or 5 hubs in total? With two similar sets containing minifigs I often change their parts round in the second set so that I have more unique figures. Trains look better with more than one of each wagon too. The log wagons are great as a pair. The container wagons now have the two snowmobiles on one and the two bank boxes on the other. The cranes have to face the same way as a pair because their jibs stick out over the end of the wagon; that's a shame because I liked the idea of them as a pair of breakdown cranes, where they would usually run jib-to-jib.I look forward to getting the 88005 Powered-Up light bricks, which are now available. I hope there will be some provision to use previous motors and lights with the new hub, since the non-smart ones need only 2 of the 6 wires to be connected. I would also like to connect NXT/EV3 parts to the Powered-Up hub. Apart from the connector being different, is the electrical interface the same? What the Powered-Up system really needs is a LiPo battery multiplexer hub to add to the Bluetooth hub that is in the train sets. Another 4x8x3 box would contain two LiPo cells (like 8878) and the charging circuit, and would have four Powered-Up ports, 2 on each end. A flying lead would plug into the Bluetooth hub to get the motor drive and smart signals. The multiplexer hub would power the 4 ports together from its LiPo battery, using the signal from the Bluetooth hub. The smart motors would behave as they do with an NXT/EV3 multiplexer. A tiny switch (used in some Power Functions items) would allow the 2 ports on one end to have reversed motor drive compared to the others. This would enable use in a train, where two train motors connected to either end of the multiplexer hub would turn in opposite directions when the tiny switch was set to "reverse". With the motor wires both towards the middle of the locomotive (avoiding the couplings and finding the holes in the baseplate), both bogies could be powered, which is what adult fans often do with 9V or PF trains. This item would go a long way to helping adult fans with the transition from Power Functions by providing a way to power multiple motors from the same receiver hub. It would also use rechargeable LiPo power for the motors, keeping the AAA cells for only the Bluetooth receiver and a low-current signal to the multiplexer hub; this would make the AAA batteries last as long as with a light brick and would be good for the environment. As an electronics and safety engineer I would be happy to help further under NDA if you like. Please would you keep all Powered-Up products versatile, so I don't need a mobile phone for any of them. I'm happy with the handset so far.I really wish the couplings didn't have to have as much of the buffer beam as they do. I know it was done to prevent swallowing but this did not need the full width. I build larger trains and the 6-wide buffer beams are not useful for that; they are also a substantial part of the cost of a train set.One real problem I do have with the set is that the locomotive snowplough-buffer beams scrape on the track. This should have been designed-out during product testing. In reality no-one has a perfectly flat floor, table or railway layout. Those who buy more train sets like to make hills and bridges to go over other tracks. This means even the snowplough buffer beams need good ground/rail clearance. Please would you redesign the piece with at least 1mm more clearance and send me 4 of them for my 2 locos. Thanks.

Great building and play experience

This is a great set for kids to spend the entire Christmas Day with. The pieces are fun to build and have lots of great little details to it. Once they are built, there are so many different storylines that can be played. The crane is super fun to operate, and of course, driving the train with the remote control is even better! The robber and the money transport add extra storylines for play. The signal tower is great too, because it helps the train play.AMAZING: The train tracks WORK WITH MY OLD TRAIN TRACKS from 30+ years ago! Just mount the old and the new on a base plate. There will be a half-a-nupsy gap, but thats okay. Just use a 1x1 flat piece at the end of the old track to keep it up on the same level.

Great set with great price (on discount with code)

I recently joined Zavvi and that was my first purchase. It was on discount, with the options to pay for it in 3 instalments, making it a great bargain. The set was delivered on time and was nicely packed, preserving the set box (which I appreciate). Needless to say the set itself is great with electric components and will be fun to build it.

Incredibly disappointed

The train itself is great. This set is essentially a 2018 version of the old 7939 Cargo Train from 2011 and as such, has all the detail, features and accessories of the original City Cargo train, but brought up to date. What lets this down really badly is the nightmare that is the new Powered Up! control system. 'Out of the box', it doesn't work properly. Yes, the supplied controller allows you to control the train. But, I also have the 60197 Passenger Train and the two controllers do not 'talk' to more than one train. The Bluetooth pairing is dodgy at best and not being able to use one controller to control both trains, one on each channel, is a real pain. According to several forums, a firmware update is available which does fix some issues, but this only works ... MoreThe train itself is great. According to several forums, a firmware update is available which does fix some issues, but this only works with an 'app' for Android or i-OS devices, neither of which I own or intend to own. So unless you are buying a single train or you have a compatible smart device, this is not for you.I have replaced both sets of Powered Up components with Power Functions items and now the trains not only work as expected but will co-exist with all my existing trains on the same controller(s).LEGO....please respect the fact that there are those of us older fans who are more than happy to spend £300 in one purchase of two train sets, but do not own or wish to own 'smart' devices. At least give us a PC-compatible method of controlling these trains or a way of updating the firmware without needing an i-Phone or tablet!I am also concerned that the battery life is nowhere near as good as it was with PF...the constant bi-directional communication between hub and controller eats batteries, even without the motors running.

LEGO City Cargo Train #60198 review

Please note that the following review is my personal point of view as an adult LEGO fan and builder. Also note that pictures enclosed this review do not represent the full final product (Vehicles, Minifigures and road crossing not shown). The LEGO City Cargo Train (CCT) set is a bland LEGO experience. Final builds consist of 1 locomotive, 3 cargo train carts, 2 vehicles (fork lift and security van), 6 Minifigures, control tower, 16 curved + 16 straight rails (Ballasted) and 1 railway switch point. The Powered Up components include 1 Bluetooth remote and 1 train engine. Connectivity and response work flawless between engine and remote control (Also applicable with cellphone app). The Powered Up components include 1 Bluetooth remote and 1 train engine. Connectivity and response work flawless between engine and remote control (Also applicable with cellphone app). Models are pretty easy builds, and well suited for younger LEGO builders. CCT comes with a hefty price tag, considering number and type of LEGO elements. The final train models are missing an overall feel of design quality. The log and container train carts derail too easy due to fixed/static wheel set mountings. They should have been mounted with wheel arrangements similar to the locomotive and crane carts. Also, the loose cargo parts (Wood logs and containers) fly off their carts when train is in motion. Annoying and disappointing design flaws, typically caused by forced deadline and rushed release. The CCT is an acceptable LEGO set with some good features such as road vehicle rail crossing (Embedded concrete track slab) and the great looking locomotive. CCT is recommendable though far from being the best LEGO train available. For once, it feels as if LEGO chose to prioritize quantity over quality.

Quite a value!

I got my hands on this set a little over a year ago. It was my first experience with a lego train. Although I have seen many through the decades.I have to say this might be one of the best starter kits, for anyone thinking about getting into lego trains. Not only do you get a fair amount of track, you get a selection that enables more than just a typical circle shape. The train itself has many features. The amount of things anyone could do to play with this is high. From the crane being able to move things around. To having all sorts of stories play out with the many figures and vehicles.I think one of the best things about current lego trains is the couplers. If you are planning to get into lego trains, this is probably the best current start you can get.
