LEGO Ninjago City - 70620

My children finally reached the age I am comfortable with them playing with small legos and not having to worry about them going in their mouths. After bringing down the crates of legos I had saved from my childhood the kids and I began building and creating anything and everything they could imagine. It really reminded me of how much I enjoyed legos as a kid.When I took my son to the Lego store to pick out a new set for his birthday, the window display of Ninjago City completely caught my attention. The detail and architecture of the set is stunning. I debated internally as we looked around the store. The detail and architecture of the set is stunning. I debated internally as we looked around the store. My son and I built a few custom mini figures and he decided he wanted the green dragon mech from the Ninjago movie........so that pushed me over the edge. I bought Ninjago city for myself to build (though the kids helped quite a bit), and figured when I was done it would make a great set to play with for the kids.After the build I am even more impressed than before, the excruciating details in every room are so unappreciated with the set all together. The kids have truly enjoyed playing with the set and it holds up pretty well from a playability aspect.My only issue now is I want more Ninjago modulars. Something like a Ninjago downtown skyscraper or city center. Since the Ninjago city doesn't pair up well next to the other modulars it needs a companion piece!

My grandma spoils us every Christmas. And, as an early Christmas present, she got this for me. And I love it! (Though I had to organize my room before I built it)First floor:All the decorations and the Easter eggs hidden in the signage is great! (Intstruction booklet comes with ninjago language translator) and the fish market stall has a little taxi pay phone. Which inspired me to make a taxi that can drive and fly/swim using propellers you can switch out the wheels for. The crowbars as the shade is a genius parts usage! Sweep’s little place was a lottle lacking in detail. But it was enough. The apartment was nice with a mat and a dresser and a TV. The tea room was great as well! The elavator only needs a bit of pressure to make it go up and down. The details on the first floor give it that ancient look.Second floor:First off, I’d like to point out the film poster display and how it references other LEGO stuff like the shadow of ronin LEGO game, the old and unpopular galidor theme, and the return of the brick separator poster. The comic shop has references to many other LEGO themes such as the “believe poster” from the LEGO movie. And the comic books. The ATM is really clever and the crab cooker is like magic! The old construction site had a nice but delicate cherry blossom tree. (Incorrectly called a Bonsai tree) the fashion shop is very nice with the new colored LEGO pieces.Third floor:The sushi place has a nice shape and little bathroom in it. I never got why it didn’t include the owner of the sushi place and included a chef’s hat and a moustache underneath it, was i supposed to take his brother (the crab cooker guy) and also use him as the shushi guy? That doesn’t make sense. Anyway. The sushi conveyor belt is clever. But, the pufferfish balloon was, in the movie, a floating resteraunt. Misako and Lloyd’s apartment was a bit too small but it utilized space nicely.Minifigures: were great except for the exclusion of the sushi shop owner, the fact that Misako didn’t have the right clothing on, and Ivy Walker’s minifigure had the wrong face and needed a fabric skirt instead of a printed one.But overall, I would recommend this whole heartedly!

I had seen a bunch of reviews of this set and it looked amazing. When I started building it, I was not disappointing. Although the technically has 3 levels, you could argue it has five with the tea room and apartment as part of the first level and the tree and store counting as their own level. Although parts of it felt a little repetitive, it's a great set to build with friends if you don't want to keep doing similar things, but don't want to miss out on any of the cool building techniques.I'm not a super advanced builder (my biggest set before this was the 2010 hogwarts which had around 1500 pieces) and it wasn't too difficult to build. One of my friends isn't even a big Lego fan, and she was fascinated with how the set was built. It was her first complex lego set and even she got through it with minimal trouble.My only complaints are pretty minor. Some of the areas are very small and hard to pose (let alone play with) figures in, I wish the set had included more of the main Ninjas, and my only real complaint: that the little elevator doesn't have any mechanism to raise or lower it.Overall, this is an amazing set. I wouldn't recommend this for any super young builders, but if you're an older collector (or even a younger collector) who really likes huge display pieces that still have detailed interiors, this set is for you.
