LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (Nintendo Ds, 2011)

Lego Star Wars III 3DS brings the fun of the lego series to the 3DS handheld platform. It's generally a good job, but the small screen is tough for this game.First, let me say that I generally adore the Lego series, especially the Star Wars ones. We own most of them for the consoles and love playing them through to 100%. So we definitely appreciate the overall concept.I was intrigued to see how well it would port down to the tiny 3DS screen. Their choice is between playing on the 3DS and not playing at all. Having a tiny game is better than having no game.But I would definitely say if you DO have access to a console that the game is much better on the larger console system. Especially since multiplayer is such an enormous joy in these games. Most of the fun for me on the console is the multiplayer. You lose that playing the 3DS version.Also it's worth noting that the autosave can get incredibly annoying / frustrating. You end up replaying the same boring section over and over again because of one hiccup you hit later on.On the up side, for people who haven't played any of the Lego games before, they are pretty much.

The game is a great action/adventure platformer. You get to control some of your favorite Star Wars characters in this game and level one actually starts off where you control Yoda. You scroll through the levels with different objectives and things that must be collected. You can also switch between characters at anytime. In level one, Yoda can change between 2 characters and of course these characters serve a purpose. For instance, one character can swing far distances where Yoda can't, but he can levitate objects and so forth. Nice balance of utilizing players for different goals. Along the way, you'll encounter many villians that must be defeated. This game is sorta of a button masher. Of course, if you have seen the movie then.

Moreover, the game has some innovative new levels, including a few battlefield levels in which players have to command troops and vehicles in order to conquer territory.But overall Lego Star Wars III doesn't quite meet the standards of its predecessors. I suspect this is partly because the Clone Wars TV show isn't quite over yet. The levels are generally based on episodes from Seasons 1 and 2 of the Clone Wars, but there isn't enough material for some of the episodes for a level. In the Lego Star Wars Saga, the hub was the cantina - brilliant in its sparsity. However, for this game the hub sprawls across two entire ships. It takes a long time to navigate and find new characters and bonus options in the hub. It's certainly not a major problem, but something that makes navigating the hub more of a chore than fun.Overall, given the price, Lego Star Wars III is a fun addition to the saga, but not quite the gaming gold of the originals.

This is a nice game with colourful graphics and a wide variety of things to do on each level. As the game progresses, the difficulty does increase, and trying to get the 100% without turning on the extras like invincibility is certainly a big challenge.My main concern is that there does seem to be a few bugs in the game. In one of the early levels, when approaching the end, the game froze up and would not recover, therefore had to restart the PS3. Thankfully this has only happened once. But there was another bug where one person was on foot, another in a fighter, and when swapping them, caused the ship to dissappear and the character to plummet. The ship never reappeared, and therefore the level could not be completed. It's a neat feature that allows me to pick up a controller and help my son out with a tricky part of a level and then turn it back over with no muss or fuss.The Clone Wars doesn't stray too far from the established LEGO game method, but there are a few surprises in here including.

They are Lego pieces and the levels are no-fail. You unlock characters through level completion (and by buying them) and there are some cute moments. But something has happened to the gameplay - it got too hard. This game is difficult. When the previous games were difficult it was because they were throwing a lot of enemies at you. This one is difficult because the objectives are not always clear and sometimes you just don't know where to go/what to do. There have been a couple spots where it took me helping them to progress and, hones.

I ordered this for him for release day delivery and let him know I wanted to hang out and watch him play it as he gave me feedback about what he thought of it. (So I could do a review for others. I enjoy video games as well and know how helpful it can be knowing if a game is any good.)I sat with him as he played and asked his thoughts on what he does and doesn't like about the game, but all I heard for about 3 hours was "WOW mom look at THIS!!!". The colors and design almost looked as though they added a bit more realistic looking texture to things like walls and floors. It's as though they've added just a touch of realistic textures to buildings and structures. The colors are still extremely vivid, but they have now given even more depth to the playing environment.So far one of his favorite aspects is being able to play as a Lego Clone. Some of the areas he explored had a very 3D-4D Mario Galaxy feel to them as well. Parts of the game seem to jump off the screen.While he has just begun to explore everything this game has to offer, he is already ecstat.

The player can travel through the bridge, the med-bay, holding cells, hangars, etc. being the same way with the Separatist cruiser. Characters that haven't been purchased by the player yet that have been unlocked wanders the hub world until you buy them, good guys on the Republic cruiser, bad guys on the Separatist.
