LEGO Star Wars Tantive IV Set 75244

This ship has always been one of my favourites from Star Wars and I always regretted not getting either of the previous blockade runner releases so when I saw this was coming out on Star Wars day I decided it was a must have purchase.I certainly haven't been disappointed with my purchase. I built it over 2 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. Compared to the modular buildings I've been doing recently it felt like a much easier build. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow and seeing what bit you were building next was always fun. While there are 11 engines to build they have varied the style of each one so it isn't too repetitive and once complete the engine block looks very impressive.Both the cockpit and the middle section open up to reveal an interior set you can sit the mini figs in though they can't stand with the roof sections on. The finished ship looks absolutely amazing and will definitely be one I keep built and on display.If you love Star Wars I would highly recommend this ship to either start your collection or add to it.

So what sets it apart from the previous sets?In my opinion, this is easily the most accurate and best looking of the three sets (and yes, I'm including the 2001 UCS set). The 2001 UCS set looks compressed, with the hull too short at the neck and just forward of the engines. The engines were also too thick. The 2009 set was built in a smaller scale than the UCS set, and features more accurate looking engines, but still suffers from the compressed neck and rear hull.This new 2019 set is built in the same scale as the 2009 set, but has fixed the proportions. The neck is longer and there is more hull forward of the engines. Just about the only think that looks worse is the ugly radar dish, but this is because it doubles as a carrying handle for moving the set around.I had a blast building this set and really appreciated the detail that went into every part of the body, as well as the interior sections. Most of the build was not overly difficult, but it does require patience since there are a lot of parts. The one part that I found frustrating was applying the red stripe stickers to the sides of the head; it's very difficult to get these straight.This set is a great collectors' piece to display on your shelf, but also great for play. You can rotate the turrets, remove the top of the head to expose pilots' seats with space for two minifigs, and remove the top of the body to expose a meeting room with space for several more minifigs. You can also pop off a part of the rear hull to double as an escape pod for C-3P0 and R2.There are two spring-loaded missile launchers under the cockpit and two stud launchers on the top turbolaser turret for firing at the bad guys. That said, the large size of the set does make it awkward to fly it around your room. I would not say that any part of the set is flimsy, but a child being reckless could certainly knock pieces off of it.

I have this set for about 1 and a half months now, and I think it looks great on my shelf. The detailing on this ship has been very well done. It doesn't have the best interior of all Lego Star Wars sets but for the small space it has it is pretty good, you can hide all the minifigures in the ship. I really love the way how the engines are done and how the designers managed to get the ship in proportion with the ship in the films. The designers also built a handle in to the ship which serves 2 causes and is very thoughtful and useful if you want to carry it around, but I still gave the playability a 3 because the ship is a bit big to fly around with it (I don't play with my Lego sets but that's just what I notice from it). So overall a great looking set and would definitely recommend this set. The Minifigures are great, all though the helmets of the Rebel Fleet Trooper and Captain Antilles do come of very easily. The minifigures selection is great, and look awesome. But maybe they could have added another Fleet Trooper but I do understand why that did not happen and that is probably because there isn't enough space to fit it in to the ship.
