This is my new #1 favorite Lego set. My wife and I have collected legos for several years, and this surpassed everything we had. I grew up on Zelda Ocarina of Time, and have played all since. We bought 2 of these. I built OoT, my wife built the BoTW version. Not only was this build so nostalgic for me with all of its secrets, it’s the only set I keep coming back to, to play with and change display. The imagination is limitless. Thank you Lego so much for making the Minifigures look good and all of the prints. If I had to wish for anything, it would be that Lego continues to make sets that hit all of the fan-favorite Zelda franchises. Keep the Ocarina of Time sets coming! Lol

Knowing nothing of the Zelda game I bought this on pre-order purely because of the great design features.I can see it being a super playable set for fans of the game but I have it as a display piece and it certainly doesn't disappoint. It reminds me of the tree ents in LOTRI built the Breath of the Wild version first and then the Ocarina of Time which is the version I want to have on display. The features of both and movement of the faces are brilliantly designed and the build is easy to follow.... but I found the 'unbuilding' was not a great experience and would have rather been able to buy each tree as a separate set. Maybe an expansion set containing the extra bricks to make both sets would be a good idea for Lego to make available as I think buying 2 sets to ... MoreKnowing nothing of the Zelda game I bought this on pre-order purely because of the great design features.I can see it being a super playable set for fans of the game but I have it as a display piece and it certainly doesn't disappoint. Like many, I was super excited to learn that we would finally have The Legend of Zelda Legos! There is no better place to start than the Great Deku Tree! This set is chock full of excellent treasure pieces. Though the box says four mini figures I think Lego did themselves a disservice not calling out each and every character that you can build in the set. There are at least seven beyond the four!I do not mind the 2-in-1 option as it gives you just that...options. However, I would love it if Lego sold an expansion pack so you could build both versions as I would be hard pressed to purchase two full sets, but I certainly would consider an expansion.I hope we see more sets in the future, both big and small! Bring on the mini-figs!All in all if you are a fan of ... MoreLike many, I was super excited to learn that we would finally have The Legend of Zelda Legos! I understand why this set costs so much (R&D, licensing, printed bricks etc) but it's quite expensive for the amount of bricks there is.In saying that, because I understand why the cost is high, I bought the set regardless. It would have been much better if LEGO decided on one of the trees and stuck with that, or developed methods that utilise all parts for 2 trees, instead of leaving a considerable amount of bricks unusable for each option. I do think this set is a good opportunity as an investment set, and they both look good once built. I absolutley LOVE the minifigs and accessories (master sword and hylian shield ftw!). But it would have been nice to have a printed triforce piece on the hands of Zelda and Link.
Real Nintendo LEGO sets have been something I've wanted for years. Mario LEGO missed the mark completely in my opinion (and my 3 kids under 11), and THIS is the kind of set I've been waiting to spend all my adult money on.I'm very happy with the minifigures (but there are only 4 of them, I wish there were more). I'm also disappointed by the 2 in 1 nature of this. This will be a display piece most likely. I don't know that I'll ever take it apart and rebuild it to the other, but that remains to be seen. Either way, it's hard to have a box filled with pieces that I paid heavily for that may never be used and to have to choose just one.Positives: So many little details that I love like Koroks, Hestu with functional maracas, NAVI(!!), the deku shield, the hylian ... MoreReal Nintendo LEGO sets have been something I've wanted for years. Either way, it's hard to have a box filled with pieces that I paid heavily for that may never be used and to have to choose just one.Positives: So many little details that I love like Koroks, Hestu with functional maracas, NAVI(!!), the deku shield, the hylian shield, the traveler's shield, a little bomb, potions, a hookshot, the sheikah slate, little plants and mushrooms. The minifigures are spot on and amazing but there aren't many of them.Negatives: BOTW Link looks like he's...not wearing pants. So from the back it looks like he has a skimpy speedo on, which is weird. Minifigure faces are unhappy. I know Link yells a lot, but he's not that angry IRL. I wish they'd had the option for happy faces on them.Biggest con in my opinion is that there is no Epona or white horse for Zelda. I'm a little devastated that Epona is missing, especially from the OoT set. She's a major part of the game, at least in my memory. No little adapter for Link to hold his shield and sword on his back, seriously. I want to put the sword and shield on his back and I know they could make a little thing like that. There is no scabbard. I've seen these before, why does Link not have his? Also missing: baddies, and a bow and arrow. Seriously. Where is that?Link's iconic hood? Missing. Wooden spoon? Broom/mop weapon? Magic wands? fire arrows? Guardian weapons? For $300, I really wish I had Epona, and a scabbard at the very least. And a bow and arrow. There IS a hookshot, which surprised me that they got that one considering how much they missed. But there is NOT a hood for Link. Or a dress for Zelda. Or a glider. Or a Ganondorf?? Or a Saria? Or Sheik? Or Impa? Or a cow and LonLon milk bottle!? Or a little sign that says "HEY! LISTEN!" Or a fairy bottle? Or a slingshot? Or a deku stick? Or a deku seed/nut? For $300 you didn't give me a Ganondorf or any baddies other than a deku baba? No Keese? No chuchus? Nothing? Seriously!? It's missing so many things that this truly is display only, not for play.Hey, LEGO, I'll be a consultant for you so I can help you make sure all the future Nintendo sets have the right accoutrements. It appears that you need an official Nintendo LEGO accoutrements auditor/consultant. That's me! I'm all on board if you crank out the Nintendo sets with proper minifigs and details.I still love it. But seriously. No Epona? That is heartbreaking. The cruelest cut of all. I attached a photo of my partially completed build. My kids and I are having a blast, but there is a horse shaped whole in my heart forever. RIP Epona, you are too good for this world.I'd put in a photo, but the photo uploader isn't working. I think it's depressed about Epona, too.
Our entire family are Zelda and LEGO mad, adults and kids alike, so we absolutely had to have this set. It really doesn’t disappoint. It was enjoyable to build, looks incredible and has some brilliant special touches. We love the fact that you can play out scenes from two of the games, with the four mini figures and their props included. The kids are already thinking up animations they can make with the set. Plus it looks great on display in our son’s Zelda themed bedroom. We have high hopes for this range and look forward to more sets, both big and small, being released!
Finished product looks great, but unfortunately had a few problems towards the end of the build. Some steps should have been done before others to make attaching later peices easier. Could use some additional peices to help hold the bottom/base of the tree together. Lego should probably stay away from these "combo" sets where you can build one way or another, because it feels like build quality and stability suffer because of it. Love the set otherwise. All the minifigs and buildings look great. I looked forward to Lego putting out more Zelda sets, but hope they focus and take more time on building instructions/step order and ensure the finished product won't feel so flimsy and unstable.
I've been waiting for a Zelda set for years and was extremely excited to see that, with the Great Deku Tree, Zelda was finally coming to Lego. By all accounts this set is fantastic. It looks great, it was very fun to put together, and has some of the best minifigures I've ever seen by Lego. The only thing I wasn't sure about when I bought this set was if it was going to be worth that high $300 price point. I honestly spent 30 minutes debating if I should even buy it when I went to my nearest Lego store on September 1st. But after building the set and seeing all the great details that Zelda fans will love I have come to a conclusion on if this set is worth the price. I do believe it is worth $300 for huge Zelda fans but for Lego enjoyers who don't know much about ... MoreI've been waiting for a Zelda set for years and was extremely excited to see that, with the Great Deku Tree, Zelda was finally coming to Lego. This build looks okay. There, I started with the positives.Otherwise? A Ganon in the room is that this set is much, and I mean MUCH too expensive. I think like at least 50€, if not 100€ less would still not make this set worth it imo.An average size build with 4 (!) minifigures, which are alright I guess (and I'm a big Zelda fan). Of these 4 minifigs, 2 (Zelda and BotW Link), or 1 (Young Link) or 1 (Link) are useful at any time, as they are from different timelines. There are NO enemies. You can build a few different brick built (and not looking too good) NPCs, with the tree itself being one. There's almost no play value.Another thing is that this set IS NOT a 2 in 1 set. It's at best choose 1 and maybe see the other once, if you built it first in one day. The instructions are so bad that they're completely misunderstanding the dissasembly process of this set. Yes, you can disassemble it if you do that shortly after you build the first tree, as there still is a small chance that you will remember how it was built. Do that in a few weeks, in a year perhaps, and it will just be an excercise in frustration, as some building techniques are a bit different and instructions just tell you how to do one, or the other... With MANY left over pieces and at least 2 useless figures (of 4!!! In a 300€ set!!!).I don't know man, just release 2 much cheaper Zelda sets and everybody would be happy, while this set imho was just greedy.
