Whether for detailed landscape shots, high-contrast pictures in difficult lighting conditions or subjects in close-up range with shallow depth of field: the Summilux-M 35 f/1.4 ASPH. produces extraordinary results. Now, eleven instead of nine aperture blades are used for a visibly improved bokeh. In addition, the closest focusing distance was reduced from 70 to 40 centimeters. When shooting up to 70 centimeters, this works as usual via the rangefinder on all Leica M cameras. After a slight perceptible resistance, the extended close-focus range between 70 and 40 centimeters can be controlled via Live View on the screen, the Visoflex viewfinder or the Leica FOTOS app. Lastly, the lens hood is now round, directly integrated in the lens and can be easily available at any time. Technical Details To achieve outstanding imaging performance at closer focusing distances, the lenses behind the aperture blades are constructed as a floating group. This group changes its position relative to the front lens group during focusing. These new lenses will replace the current Leica Summilux-M 35 f/1.4 ASPH lenses while supplies last (11663 and 11675). The optical formula and filter size (E46) remains unchanged with this new version.

40cm versus 70cm is a large difference!

Closer focus is GREAT! Lens creates perfectly clear photos or plenty of smooth bokeh as you wish. Stars are shockingly clear and colorful, f1.4 is well worth it! Highest flawless quality of Leica as expected, controls feel very good.

Great, quick service. I had a question about my significant order and I was responded to in no time at all with an actual update. This hard to find lens came in perfect order, and having owned the previous version, I instantly noticed the updates that were made over the “FLE I”. I could not be happier with this lens or the service I received.I will be using B&C again for my camera gear needs!

I was such a fan of the older Leica Summilux-M 35mm that I was worried about parting ways with it to get this newer version. However, after using it for several months I can honestly say that I have no worries whatsoever. Leica has done such a good job of keeping the wonderful character of the older lens and refining it further by adding close focusing and smoother bokeh. It's a fantastic lens that works well for my photographic needs to be able to get closer to subjects. This has unlocked so many more possibilities with my work. Yes, you do need to use the screen or EVF for close focusing, but this certainly isn't a dealbreaker in any way. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw an integrated EVF in an M12 someday.

Distinctive at full aperture, and if so inclined: magical !
17 May 2020

I have owned the previous model Summilux M 1:1.4 35mm for 25 years. The aspheric version is a worthwhile upgrade for me, I use it on the Monochrome type 246. If you can forget about the $$$ for a moment, you are buying a work of art, Leica glass at its best, for decades to come. I do own 9 additional Leica M lenses, my favorite is the Noctilux. This Summilux 35mm lens weighs less, is less conspicuous, is ideal for travel, and is half the price of the latter. If you are new to Leica M this could be an ideal first and perhaps only lens. The older Summilux M 1:1.4 35mm is quite comparable stopped down, the newer aspheric version is supersharp and distinctive at full aperture - wide open (this is what you are paying for) and, if so inclined, you may find it : magical !

Very, very good! Feels heavier than the 35mm f/2.00 but it's just the same. I don't like the built in hood. Looks like something is missing. Awkward to handle and focus unless using zone focusing. The closest focusing is better than the older model. let's in lots of light and is much faster than f/2.0.

Great optics in small package
5 June 2023

I really have enjoyed using this lens and it is my most used lens on my M11 camera. I really like the ability to close up focus that provides more flexibility compared to some of the other 35mm lenses I have used in the past. Wide open images are quite sharp with optimal image sharpness across the whole field between f2.8-4 or 5.6. The lens is well made as is for most Leica products but the price is quite hefty.

I love it.... but!

I waited a long time to purchase this lens as it is THE most expensive lens I have ever purchased. I had owned the 35mm summicron (latest version) and was pretty content with it so the lux really needed to prove it's worth to me. I did not but it just because it's one stop faster, but rather because I kept hearing about the phenomenal magic and 3D look this lens produces when wide open. This lens can nail focus wide open at 1.4 all day long but, it is not tack sharp and also vignettes pretty heavily. Both can add to that magical look.. and I am totally ok with it, but it is something people should know. Close down to 2 - 2.8 and the lens is amazingly sharp, the vignette fades away, and it still has an amazing pop to the images. The slightly larger size and weight does not bother me at all. So overall, and a fantastic lens for sure! just know that while the lux is not perfect at 1.4, it can produce amazing images wide open.

Best all around lens . Does it all ! Best value lens. Yes expensive ! But what lens can you buy and use 5 years and sell it for what you paid it? None? Dont settle for almost ? that cost you ? Work with the best! Ask anyone who has used Leica lens ? If the cost was the same they would choose Leica always! But think of it as investment in yourself? If you sell it it dont cost anything .

The best performance with some drawbacks.
17 July 2022

The image quality of this lens is impeccable, it?s astonishingly sharp even wide open, without sacrificing micro-contrast or being too clinical. But?. It?s too heavy and unbalanced on an M camera, and the focus ring is a little too stiff. If you need the fastest lens this is the one, otherwise I?d check out the slower but still incredible options.

The perfect lens from an amazing store.
29 March 2023

I have only had this lens for the last almost two weeks, and it has served me perfectly and has allowed me to capture unforgettable photos. The quality of photos from this lens is too good, and the rendering amazing in my use (Leica M11 body). The ability to also close focus via live-view is amazing and has served me well when taking photos of food, textures, and smaller subjects. Absolute 10/10 of a lens if you can look past the price, and 10/10 of a store to get it from.
