This outstanding new classic prime lens offers exceptional image performance and unique bokeh. Despite its high speed and impressive imaging quality, its dimensions are astoundingly compact. Together with this lens, every Leica M becomes an extremely compact and elegant photographic tool. The Summicron-M features a rectangular, full-metal lens hood with a screw mount. A screw-in protector ring is provided to protect the filter thread of the lens when the hood is not in use. The eleven blades of the iris of the new Summicron-M 35 mm f/2 ASPH. create a circular aperture. This lends the out of focus areas of subjects a smooth and harmonious look. The newly designed and constructed lens delivers pin-sharp pictures with rich contrast and almost complete freedom from distortion – at all apertures and distances - and even when wide open.

Delivers better color neutrality across the frame than the Color Skopar Pancake II I was using, though now I've learned it's probably not the Skopar's fault:http://chromasoft.blogspot.com/2009/10/vignetting-correction-issues-on-leica.htmlBut in trying Leica 35's to replace the Skopar, I saw something unexpected: this 6-bit version draws much differently than the uncoded 35 cron asph I tried before it. The earlier version had hotter highlights and a more chunky draw. It made the pictures look more digital in that label's pejorative sense. I vastly prefer the look of the coded version. Somehow the draw seems more nuanced, less chunky, without the overcooked highlights; the images overall looked less pejoratively digital, more filmic--or maybe that's just good ... MoreDelivers better color neutrality across the frame than the Color Skopar Pancake II I was using, though now I've learned it's probably not the Skopar's fault:http://chromasoft.blogspot.com/2009/10/vignetting-correction-issues-on-leica.htmlBut in trying Leica 35's to replace the Skopar, I saw something unexpected: this 6-bit version draws much differently than the uncoded 35 cron asph I tried before it. It makes me wonder whether the 6-bit lenses have been adjusted to mate better with digital sensors.

Been a long time rangefinder film camera user and wanted to test drive a digital version - the Leica M10. Wasn’t sure about adapting my various LTM glass so I included the 35mm Summicron. Turns out all my old lenses, with appropriate adapters, worked perfectly. While the Summicron is a gorgeous shooter, several of my 60+ year old Canon LTMs were just as sharp. As for the M10 itself…I’m sold! It is a beautiful camera and there is an M10-R in my very near future. And thanks to Lensrentals.com I know I can defer buying modern Leica glass for a awhile, to let my bank account get a breather, by using my adapted LTM lenses. This is the second time I’ve used Lensrentals.com and the experience helped me make camera/lens decisions in each case. The sharpness is unmatched, and I have shot with the 35mm summilux FLE, the Zeiss 35mm 1.4 Distagon, and the Zeiss 35mm 2.8 Biogon. This 35 APO is clearly in a higher class than all of these in terms of sharpness and color fidelity. The close focusing is much welcomed as well. Finally, it’s a compact lens with a very low profile hood and almost no viewfinder blockage on my M10-R. The only downside of this lens is that it is such a stellar performer that it makes me want to use a tripod and zoom in to critical focus in Live View - not exactly the rangefinder experience.

I was on B&H's waiting list for well over a year when I found one of these rare gems for sale in London and grabbed it. I own six M lenses (and as a Leica M shooter for 50 years I've owned many more in the past) and this lens seldom leaves my M11. The other lenses are collecting dust for the most part. I just don't need anything else. A Leica employee told me they're discovering that many of the owners of this lens stop buying and using other Leica lenses (could this account for the scarcity?). Performance is unrivaled in all aspects. Size and weight are fine. If I had to find a single fault (other than price) it would be that the hood scratches easily, but that's about it. Is it insanely expensive? Yes. Is it worth the expense? To me, yes.
I must say, it's the finest Leica lens I've had the pleasure of using. Despite its premium optical performance, it maintains a compact and lightweight design, rendering it highly portable and perfect for everyday use. Everything about it is flawless, except for the wait time—I had to endure a nine-month wait.
Ordered this on Sept 07, 2022 and started shooting today September 11,2022 on my Leica M 11...Outstanding! Far, far better than I expected. Crystal clear and sharp across the board. Now I'd like to add two more Leica lenses...50mm f 1.4 and 75mm also...should be an ideal kit. Worth every dollar spent for this lens and the camera. Hope to get many years of use from this. B&H helped with my first lens selection and was very good. Everything shipped on time, complete and ready to go. The M 11 exceeded my expectations too.
It isn't that the Leica 35 is engineered in house. It isn't that the Leica 35 is handmade and QC tested at critical points in the process. The Leica 35 feels like it is built like a tank.It also feels very precise in the focusing and framing of a shot. But what is so special and unique about the Leica 35 is the quality and expression of the image that makes it worth every penny of it's cost. The Leica 35mm f/2 ASPH is an incredible lens.ACM
Just traded in my wonderful fixed-lens Leica Q2 Monochrom for a rangefinder, which I’ve wanted since my college years. I love the compact form factor and easy handling of the 35mm Cron, and I’ve been delighted with my initial photos. I’ll be traveling abroad in a few weeks’ time, and I can’t wait to capture my experiences.
Having been spoiled by the clarity of my primary lens, the Leica APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH, I decided to order a Leica APO-Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH as my tertiary lens after my Leica Summilux-M 90mm f/1.5 ASPH. In the meantime my Leica APO-Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH has advanced to be my primary lens. As expected, the corner-to-corner performance is outstanding. The closest focus distance of 0.3 m with the Leica Visioflex 2 comes in handy so that I do not have to carry around the Leica Macro-Adapter-M with the more than 1 kg weight of my 90 mm lens any more. The brilliant color redition of the APO-Summicron-M 35mm prompted me to order a 104 cm by 127 cm print which resurrected my previous photographic passion to inspire others. I'm here to attest that this lens does actually exist. As a long-time owner of the APO50 that has enjoyed its combination of ergonomics and performance immensely, I put in the order for this lens the week of its release announcement. After an unbelievable wait of 15 months (even the B&H staff were shocked), I got the call. The addition of the 0.3m focus is a really nice. Leica has started changing over their 35mm Summilux, hoping they can figure out a way to change up some of their 50s. On a Leica body, the performance is peerless. Not much needs to be said here other than this lens will test your photographic ability as the lens is unforgiving. On other bodies that I've tried adapting this lens to, Sony A7III and Canon R5, no matter what aperture, the corner ... MoreI'm here to attest that this lens does actually exist. I had better success cheating with Leica's 50mm lenses. The attached samples are shot on either a TYP246 or M10R. I will admit the price is eye-watering and will give you pause, or as it were, gave me pause. But since returning to the computer after that first series of shots, all I can think about is where to go shoot next. Well done Leica, what a little wonder of a lens!
