I have both types of poles blackdiamond and now these new leki onesI thought the glove system would be awkward but after 3 km it felt fine I was use to itMy left wrist got a bit of pain due to the fact the poles were 5 cm higher than my old ones. This worked itself out over time but keep it in mind if you are use to strapsThese are super light and the release system is awesome.Great polesDavid

Amazing running poles, best I've used. The way the poles attach means that you hardly have to grasp them at all which saves getting sore shoulders and upper back on long runs from gripping too hard, which is something I have suffered from with regular wrist straps on other poles. The hand straps are comfortable for most part, the only slight niggle is that my hand did get quite sweaty from time to time. Also they are amazingly light, hardly notice them attached to the bag when not using them. In short expensive but worth it!

Having run 40+ trail ultras and watching people use poles always perplexed me. Im tackling the Telluride 40M in Aug and knew I’d need every possible oppy for this upcoming race…. I ran a 50k in a technical part of Bear Mountain NY on Saturday and NOW I understand why the Leki poles are the best. 2 days later I’d normally feel like I got run over my a car and wouldn’t be able to do stairs w/o much discomfort. The poles are a Game-Changer! I barely feel the stress in my legs as I was able to redistribute the load from legs to shoulders/arms. Helped significantly during the run, easy to get on and off and frankly they are so light there is no material slow down for weight. Highly encourage anyone reading this to buy these. Excellent poles. This is my 2nd set as I felt my 1st are a little short. So ordered these as a replacement. Slightly lighter & slimmer than my previous poles. I find the trigger system easier to use than the old version. Bigger handles feels comfy. The glove system is good to take pressure off the hands. I'm yet to try them out on the trail but I'm sure they will b just as good as my other pair. Reasonably quick shipping to New Zealand. Very happy with everything thanks.
I’d been considering getting lighter poles for years. Switching from a 10 year old set of Black Diamond poles, and each of those weigh more than both of these lovely poles. These Leki poles are weighted in a way that they swing effortlessly. Clipping in and out with the trigger shark system is simple, even when tired or pushing hard. The ‘gloves’ aren’t very comfortable, and don’t adjust well to smaller hands (need to purchase separate gloves).
I do a lot of hiking and I love my poles as i find they really help my knees, balance and reduce effort. They have to be light, fold/unfold easily and fold up short enough to fit in my pack which I take as hand luggage when flying. For years i have been very happy with my Black Diamond Distance Carbon Z but wanted to try the simplicity of the Leki quick release glove in place of the traditional hand-loop but until all the Leki poles weighed more than my BD poles. Well now these are slightly lighter than my BDs. Plus the new shark system makes the clip in/out even easier than the older Leki system I really like on my ski poles (and why I wanted to try these). I haven't used them enough to be definitive but so far they meet my expectations for comfort and ease of use. ... I haven't used them enough to be definitive but so far they meet my expectations for comfort and ease of use. On the down side based on my wife's experience with this system I expect I will also find the “gloves” get sweaty and stinky hiking in hot weather, more so than the regular loops, but better in colder, wet condition especially with a waterproof glove liner underneath. Final thought - Although these are designated for trail running they are great for hiking - especially if you are a weight conscious long distance hiker.
superior pole w one flaw: stability with load. When indirect load, the pole is weak. ESP uneven snowpack. Pole broke just below lock
I cannot recommend these enough for trail runners. They are amazingly lightweight, compact, easy to open and close, grip all types of ground very well. The shark glove and how it connects to the poles is the real highlight. It allows a good swing, transfer of energy and use of the hands. The uncliping is improved from previous models in that you can press a lever with your thumb to release allowing one handed removal easily. It is important to take care of them. Storing them even slightly damp can lead to them sticking. I’ve also had them be difficult to open on hot humid days. Always worth checking that they open smoothly at home before heading out just in case, as if they are sticky it’s much harder to open them with sweaty hands.
The carbon pole is brittle and can break unexpectedly - especially splitting at the connection points. I recommend Leki add a collar at the connections like their ULTRATRAIL FX.ONE pole. This pole is supper light, expensive, be careful with it. If new to trail running poles, start with the ULTRATRAIL FX.ONE.
