After reading many reviews about a variety of machines, I had narrowed my choices down to three machines. Many reviewers mentioned Chris Coffee as their preferred vendor. As I live in New York, it seemed logical to purchase my new machine from a vendor close to my home. I pulled the trigger on buying this machine after doing a lot of research on it. Coming from having a Rancilio Silvia for about 10 years I wanted to buy a machine that will allow for more experimentation with my roasts and provide the consistency of the $15K machines in my favorite local shops. This machine exceeded my expectations at both. The espresso it puts out easily competes with my favorite shops which now saves me a lot of money as I make drinks as good or better at home for a lot less cost. The functionality of the machine is impressive with the pressure profile programming and daily timers that can be set up and it is very easy to maintain. For those interested in paying the premium to get a machine that you can do more experimentation with your shots ... It's disappointing to spend so much and then get a manual that doesn't even list the figure numbers let alone have instructions for installing the optional joystick type wand. It's probably best to go with a product that the company actually supports. The low quality manual makes me question the quality of the product. You will sleep better if you buy something else.I had problems with the machine and called Chris' coffee 3 times. They gave me the run around and did actually help. Twice they told me they'd call me back but never did. Broken machine within the two year warranty and they still wouldn't help. I will never buy Jack from these folks.

Had a Quick Mill Silvano for about eight years and decided to upgrade to a newer machine. It's taken several weeks to dial things in, but I really couldn't be happier, both with the product and Chris' Coffee. Love it!
Purchased the Vesuvius about 2 months ago. The delivery service and support were fantastic. Not a scratch.If you are anxious to draw and taste your first cup, simply program one phase at 9bar and 40+sec. This emulates other "non-programmable" machines. You just shut the lever when the draw is finished stopping the draw before the timer runs down. From there you can start experimenting with grinds, times and pressures.Oh.. one negative.. The reservoir is hardwired to the water level sensor. My advice... DO NOT try to remove the reservoir to fill it. You may damage the sensor connections! Instead, carefully pour water into the reservoir. You have to open the left side panel, tilt the plastic reservoir out, partially remove the top, pour in about a liter of water, ... Absolutely love this machine. Chris was great, pre-tested, packaged like it was his baby, arrived rapidly, and easy to setup (didn't need to plumb, and can move water tank location to suit). Been driving it for a month now, great quality and design. I mainly make espressos, and here are some keys points I value in this machine:1) pre-infushion,2) shot timer,3) rotary pump,4) two boilers, I mostly keep the steam boiler off unless somebody wants a cap (quick warm up),5) especially the group head pressure gauge,6) love the flow paddle for light roasts,7) conveniences of commercial machines considered in design,8) adjustable water and steam temp.I've been pulling levers at home for while now, but this machine looks great, and always performs. I purchased my Vesuvius ten years ago from Chris. Fantastic machine highly reliable. After five years I replaced the drip tray which had become scratched. Also at that time the rotary pump had to be replaced. Chris sent me the part and I replaced it. It wasn’t easy with my big hands but it is still working after many more years. Still making espresso a la Tejano. Now I’m buying a retirement condo and will likely put a new Vesuvius in the kitchen.No I never remove the reservoir. Use the tilt and fill method described by another customer. The electronic sensors in the reservoir look comfortable as originally installed.

Also, the placement of the PID/control display is located lower down and as far as possible from the boilers, another example of intelligent design. The flow control lever, the shot timer, even the nice raised shot cup grille are all little design feature which for me added up to a machine that really did achieve the best total package, with the icing on the cake being the beautiful finish contrasting the polished stainless with the lovely wood control handles and feet!Five stars for both, and a big thank you to Chris' Coffee!!
