Paired with a folding bluetooth keyboard and a USB-C hub (both separate purchases), and you've got yourself a tiny (although, big for a handheld) desktop! The controls are detachable, so you can use this purely as a Windows tablet, and it has enough power to run Photoshop comfortably, so other applications of a similar nature should be okay tooThe Go itself is quite bulky in comparison to other handheld gaming devices (including the likes of the Nintendo Switch, or Asus ROG Ally), but I don't find the weight too distracting during play sessions. This is where if you are willing to do a bit of work yourself you can make the device great however. By downloading the official graphics drivers for the 8740U from AMD you can manually update the drivers to more recent version. You get mixed responses online about how much the performance is across different games but I found the Go is just better overall as a gaming handheld when you do this. If you Google how to do this there are plenty of guides and YouTube videos to help you do this. There is also a great community online of owners of the device sharing tips and advice. So do I recommend this device? Yes whole heartedly, just don't expect the same experience as say owning a Nintendo Switch. It's something way better, it's a handheld gaming PC which is far more versatile.

Legion Space has also been updated to include custom TDP(Power Settings) and Fan Settings, as well as how to change hardware.Conclusion: The Legion Go, if you are willing to make the changes and realized that it has more time to mature ahead, but undoubtedly a solid choice that is underestimated and misunderstood by those expecting an out the box requiring no work on their end. I've tested over 10 separate models of the Legion Go and even the open box models should be a solid buy as well as long as the previous owner did not lock the BIOS.Hope this helps someone in their choice.

When I think of the Legion Go, I think of "3 in 1". Let me explain: 1) It is a handheld console, 2) It is a console where it can be docked, and 3) it is a mini PC. So far, I've stressed the crap out of it as we all should to see its full capabilities. Now, is this piece of software perfect? No, but it is beginning to as when it does catch up with Nvidia and/or AMD, it will cost way more than $6.99 so take advantage of it now. (2) Every games has a sweet spot when it comes to the resolution as trust me for a handheld resolution is the difference in how well it will looks compared to the graphics tweaks because the screen isn't a monitor or TV but a smaller screen so everythingvalmost looks amazing even at medium. And what I have found is that the sweet spot just like on a gaming PC is 1440p for the Legion Go. Now, once in a while, you'll have to go down to 1200p, but most of the time you can game at its full native 1600p or take it down to 1440p High to Ultra. I have also observed that going to medium does not increase frame rates, so might as well keep it at high or ultra. Now, if the games come with DLSS or FSR and Frame Generation, you're gonna get a massive frame boost. And if not, remember what I said earlier about Lossless Scale. These features in game are always best because they have been tuned for the game, but Lossless Scale is an amazing addition to games that do not have those additions. (3) When you connect it to an external monitor, you can completely max out the resolution of your TV or monitor, and the Legion go will handle it just fine. Watching Youtube at 4K or Netflix and other apps of such is a breeze. Now, when you extend the screens, make your external monitor is your main as it will tell the Legion go to give all of its juice to the external (same with laptops). Now, that being said, when playing video games, you must turn the resolution back to 1440p on your external monitor or TV because the Legion Go cannot go passed 1600p so trying to play at 4K will NOT be a great experience unless your TV or monitor has a dedicated GPU that will help boost FPS. (4) What software can it run? I use Blender, Adobe After Effects, Premier, and Photoshop. So did I stress the crap out the Legion Go where the fans were screaming? Yes. Can the Legion Go run these software? Yes. But can it run them like a powerful desktop or laptop? Nope. If your project is simple and you are on the go and just doing a concept then the Legion go will do just fine. But, if you're thinking of doing some massive projects with an end result using tge Legion Go, it simply wasn't meant for that and will freeze on you. If you can afford the Legion Go, I assume you have a $2500 desktop or laptop and thus use those instead. (5) A great additional purchase is a dock that has fans in it with inputs and outputs to ensure the Legion Go fully becomes a mini desktop to run everything like a PC would. (6) If you are well aware of using a PC, the Legion Go will be no different as when you boot it up, you do it like a PC so make sure everything is up to date. Once it is, enjoy a much more efficient and faster Legion Go. (8) The controllers work great attached or seperated and you can sit on the couch and the Legion Go can be near your TV and it will be just fine with little to no lag because the lag really comes from how well your TV or monitor responds. And, also be aware that once separated, the battery will drain out so instead connect abother gamepad instead and use that as wireless gamepads last much longer. Now, my only beef with that is that external gamepads have to use the USB C port as even when docked, it won't respond to USB connected external controllers. I hope this will be fixed with a software update. (9) The interface is very easy to use and there are plenty of alternative settings to make the Legion Go how you want performance wise because remember it is just a handled console and not a desktop. And for a handheld console, you want options but just enough so you can focus more on other things the Legion Go can do and do very well. And lastly, (10) I hope this review helps you decide if you want the Legion Go or not but be smart always and wait like I do for a sale, then snatch it for 500 bucks or 600 bucks depending of which one you get. As for me, I am very happy with the Legion Go and will be sad once there is a new version but AMD is really good at sharing new tech and making it possible to use with older tech and so I will only upgrade my Legion Go if the new Legion Go is literally a beast with nee updated hardware and an Oled screen. I mean the PS5 Pro isn't that much improvement from the PS5 because they all share a similar architecture from heandheld to consoles so that is why the PC race is still the master race ahaha. As consoles are becoming more PC and keeping the price low is the only hope that they sell out to make up for how much it truly cost to make a console. I love my Legion Go and 100% believe the other handheld consoles cannot beat it because it is powerful and too versatile.

The virtual keyboard does not always come up when needed, and manually pulling it up is a pain. You can use a full mouse and keyboard if you plug in an adapter to one of the usb-c inputs, but at that point you have something as cumbersome as a laptop. The item description saying this has 2 full sized usb-c ports is a bit misleading, as one of those ports is needed to power the product. SoD 2 slowed to a crawl whenever i entered a building or encountered any zombies, making the game basically unplayable. Neither Return To Grace nor State of Decay 2 are super-demanding games, so it is very disappointing that the Legion Go cannot run them at an acceptable frame rate. If you fiddle with the settings you might be able to get them to play OK, but it seems like a bad sign to me to have so much trouble with only moderately demanding games.i returned this item and got a gaming laptop instead, which was about $1100, and it played State of Decay 2 absolutely great, with no fiddling with settings etc. For most gamers, I think a mid-priced gaming laptop is a better bargain and makes for a far less frustrating experience.

I'd like to use Windows' built-in XBox Game Bar instead of Lenovo's wrapper around all the game stores I already install individually. Also, there isn't room for the charger in the included hard-shell case, only the device itself. I would have liked a bit of extra storage, but I already carry a GoPro case for my tech accessories so it's not a deal breaker.Finally, I would recommend also getting a Bluetooth keyboard to accompany the device. Not a fault of the device itself, but the Windows on-screen keyboard takes up a large proportion of the screen, so seeing what you're typing can be a nuisance. I have an ikon MKB80 that I picked up abroad for cheap that serves this purpose well.

It feels premium for sure and the screen is really nice, but I found the weight and size shortened my gaming sessions because it became annoying and uncomfortable to hold. The kickstand is wonderful and helps with this issue, but if I need to sit it on the table to play it then I may as well use my laptop.3) The coil whine was unbearable. I can deal with how hot the Go got and how loud the fans were compared to the Ally, but the coil whine was the breaking point. Sure, I can cover it up with headphones, but everyone in the room has to hear the screeching and whoooshing of the coil whine and fans. My wife's review is "what the $%@& is that noise??"4) Joycon/controller wobble. I hate it on the Switch and I hate it here. I get why it's there, but for someone like me who can't stand it, it's a big issue. This is more of a personal preference knock than an actual device issue like the dpad.The Go is great, it really is, but had I been able to mess with the dpad and hold the device in person prior to buying it, I never would have made the purchase. I feel like this was primarily designed with "PC gamers" in mind (heavy laptop users, touchpad, large screen, 'fps mouse mode', kickstand etc) whereas the Ally was designed for "handheld gamers" in mind (smaller, lighter, better dpad). But when the performance is practically identical (Ally Z1 Extreme), then you just have to decide whether or not you want the specific features, and problems, of the Legion Go or if you want a lighter, smaller, more "handheld-y" device with the Ally.

It is amazing. I won’t lie. The screen is absolutely beautiful however, I do not have enough free time to tinker for hours on in to attempt to make a game to work when I can buy an ally X, steam deck, etc. That would play games better and quicker.Finally, the battery life is terrible and making adjustments to that again. If you have the time to tinker, I’m sure you can make it work but again as someone who doesn’t have a lot of free time it’s asking too much of me when all I want to do is turn it on and play.So again, if you have free time, and you have real great knowledge of windows, I’m sure you can make this system amazing and run super well, but if you’re much like me where you work and have children a very limited free time this system is not designed for you

Hence Legion Go is the answer! Here’s what I love about it:1.) Screen - the size and picture quality is absolutely terrific! Resolution and refresh rate is up to par with my gaming monitor. It’s beautiful. This was my primary motivation for getting this over the ASUS rog ally or Steam Deck.2.) Built in WiFi 6E - allows for high speed streaming (fast router needed too of course), enabling me to stream at 120fps with no noticeable picture quality loss, pixelation, or input lag. It’s as if I’m playing directly on my PC.3.) Battery life - this is typically a con for most reviews I’ve seen, but if you’re streaming from a gaming PC, put the Legion Go in power saving mode. I’m able to play for over 2 hours and still have more than 50% battery left.4.) versatility - when traveling or on the go, I can still game with this even away from my PC. At this point I would not bother with streaming outside of my home network, but installing the games onto the legion go and playing them directly from the device is still a great experience. Picture quality is obviously not as good due to relying on integrated GPU, so I mostly have to turn every graphics setting to low and also enable resolution scaling for AAA games. But overall still a good experience.5.) windows 11 - I’m a little torn about this one. On one hand it’s great that this is basically a windows laptop, and as a windows user I can do everything on this that I would do on my PC. But on the other hand, using windows with touch and game controllers absolutely sucks. Windows is intended to be used with a mouse and keyboard, not this…but that’s what you have to expect when you opt for a windows based handheld vs something like a Switch or Steamdeck. The controller does have a track pad though, so that helps. But if you only ever intend to game and are not already a windows user, a windows based handheld might not be the best choice for you.Final thoughts:I’m a sucker for games with high end graphics and always want to experience them the way developers intended (hence the RTX 4090) and the Legion Go totally delivers an uncompromised experience for a handheld. So if you’re like me and already have a high end gaming PC, but just want to enjoy all that gaming power on a handheld with a gorgeous screen to utilize it, get the legion go. It’s also great to install and play games directly on it when out and about, but there you will have to compromise on battery life and graphics quality. That’s not the typical case for a user like me though, since I use it 90% of the time at home. Very happy with this device!

When traveling with my Steam Deck, I found myself wishing I had brought my laptop. With the Legion Go, I find it's good enough for my short business trips. The 8.8" screen makes a big difference and if you think about it, it's closer to tablet size, while the other devices have screens closer to large phone size.If you're just looking for a handheld device to use at home while sitting on the couch, I'd recommend getting a ROG Ally (if you need Windows compatibility) or a Steam Deck OLED (if you're looking for a more console like experience and better battery life). But if you need a device that gives you the best combo of gaming device and Windows PC, then the Legion Go is the best option.One last thing. If you see older reviews of the Legion Go (let's say before Jan 2024), they may no longer be accurate. Lenovo has pumped out several software updates that have addressed many of the initial shortcomings (with more updates coming). Things like fan curves, dead zones, etc have been addressed fairly well since launch.
