This really is an amazingly light 17" laptop. And the performance is very good, with very good keyboard layout and feel. Easy to work with for extended periods of time.I would much prefer to have had the opportunity to buy this unit with a matte screen, which was not available when I made my purchase. My screen is just too reflective. I have to manage around that—which can be done—but it would go from 4 to 5 stars if it had one.The battery is a curious thing. I found that it drains amazingly fast when NOT in use. I have documented average power loss of 25% per week, checked over a period of months. I thought this so unusual I returned the computer twice for a battery replacement thinking the battery just had to be bad.LG customer service supposedly replaced ... MoreThis really is an amazingly light 17" laptop. But it's real and apparently baked in.

I needed an updated laptop as my i5 8250U chipped laptop was sometimes struggling to drive a big 4k screen when there were a lot of windows active and lots of cameras on in Zoom calls. Costco ran this LG laptop at a very good price for Black Friday so I retired the old laptop a bit early.Good points:Good internal spec. Unless you like playing games you will find this set up fast & capable for pretty much everything.Really good screen. 99% colour gamut & higher than HD resolution is great. Even if you don't edit photos you'll like it.Real number pad on the keyboard! Not embedded in the letters like smaller laptops. It really is very light indeed and the power pack is reasonably compact. I haven't tried any heavy photo editing etc. on battery yet.It comes with a little rubber keyboard protector. I don't use it but if you want to use the laptop in the kitchen for recipes or while you're eating breakfast it's a very handy little addition. Not so good:Keyboard is a bit clacky and doesn't ooze quality. It's a big laptop and the keys seem a long way away. You're sort of reaching over half the laptop to reach the keys which makes it tiring to type a lot of text. They could shrink the oversized touchpad and move the keys closer. If you lock the number pad on you need to hold down the Fn key to use Home & End! What were they thinking about? I guess I'll get used to this but really. When you close the lid to put the laptop to sleep there's no way of knowing if it's actually asleep. Other laptops will have a flashing yellow LED or similar so you can see if something wakes it up and starts eating the battery. I would really like this functionality.Maybe this isn't the laptop's fault but my bluetooth headset connects even when the laptop is asleep. My other laptop doesn't do this and I wish the Gram didn't either. It's probably a setting somewhere in the BIOS.Obviously every review of every laptop has to complain about the ports. I need an SD port (full size please) so I bought a little USB-C dock which has extra USB ports, LAN, SVGA etc.The camera is good rather than great. Good enough for family Zoom calls but if you make a living delivering online meetings you'll want something better.Speakers are good enough for listening to radio or a movie but you really notice the improvement when you plug in external speakers for music. As always I'm not interested in freeware so McAfee went straight away and I'll have a look at the Cyberlink stuff but they're unlikely to stay. I've no idea what the various LG apps do but so far they don't seem to be using up too much resources so I'm leaving them for the time being.Probably the biggest issue is the super-sensitive touch pad. Instead of the left & right buttons being fully separate from the pad they are still part of the pad so you'll find yourself zooming in on pages when you are just trying to left click. Obviously a wireless mouse solves this at your desk but I still use a laptop on the move quite a lot and I'd prefer not to have to keep undoing things that I've done by accident.Overall it is a great machine and highly recommended if you find it a the right price.

The good:- Amazing screen. Some of the best colours I have seen on a laptop.- Very thin and light. Amazing to travel with on my business trips.- Great for day-to-day tasks that are not resource-intensive.- 1TB of SSD storage is good for the average user.- Lots of ports and a micro SD reader is more than enough for the average person. The bad:- The USB-C port stopped transmitting video to my monitor completely (work laptop does this just fine).- The USB-A port stopped transmitting sound to my headphone adapter (work laptop does this just fine).- The laptop cannot play 4k120fps videos (that I have recorded and saved locally) smoothly. Before purchasing this laptop, I did what many of you do: I googled the reviews and watched some youtube reviews. And I was excited to get this laptop (on sale as well)! After using it for only ONE day, I returned it!Why did I return it, you ask?First issue: At times, the laptop would simply not charge to 100%. I checked all the settings and even called LG (and I'll get to their customer support soon, keep reading). I've never encountered this issue with any laptop.Second issue: So I'm trying to figure out what's going on, and I end up calling LG. I talk to a regular technical support dude and his supervisor. They sounded like nice people, but had ZERO technical expertise. These guys knew less than I did, and gave me conflicting information. They sounded like nice people, but had ZERO technical expertise. These guys knew less than I did, and gave me conflicting information. Not to mention, I wasted a few HOURS between the hold times and explaining myself etc. New knew LG (whose TVs I love) could be so horrible.Third issue: Ok this is a real small one, but keep it in mind while reading number four. I was using my earphones, and they suddenly stopped working. I plugged them in and out, and still no sound. I tried another two pairs. Nothing. I reset the computer, and sound returned. But I didn't care, because the fourth issue was a huge deal breaker.Fourth issue: So I was sitting in front of the laptop watching a youtube video, and doing NOTHING else. No programs running in the background, nothing. Then, all of a sudden, WHILE THE LAPTOP IS PLUGGED IN AND SIGNIFICANTLY CHARGED, the computer shuts off. Completely. Upon startup, no recovery messages or anything. To recap, on the first day the battery seemed to be screwed up, the tech dudes at LG customer service didn't seem to know anything about the product, the audio port gave me difficulties and the laptop randomly shut down.Yes, I loved the vibrancy of the screen (don't like the ratio, as I find it too tall, and would have liked it wider). But I'm thankful these issues arose on day one so I could get a refund. Also, even if my experience is not the norm, I really don't think that this piece of machinery is going to last long. And if you're willing to pay around 2k for it, I'd suggest looking elsewhere, as you have many options.
It is super light, I can take it everywhere. and the screen resolution is amazing.By the way, there are small software problems. From the first time I bought it, it keeps lagging when I open and close the folders, and move files in the folders. I still haven't found the reason. The graphics often looked broken when I used PowerPoint. I solved the problem after updating the graphic card driver, but how to update the graphic card was also complicated and not easy. And there are still many small errors, such as the security function key not working. It is difficult to solve problems for me because there isn't much helpful information online. But still, I strongly recommend this product. The battery lasts long, too. The bezel is thin, too. I purchased the LG Gram 17 2021 model yesterday at Microcenter, Dallas. The first thing I noticed was how light it was. I've handled chromebooks that are heavier. The CPU is fast enough for my needs, that being software development, browsing, video meetings and so on. I had wanted to put Ubuntu onto it (and wipe WIndows) but was a little concerned as there'd been some compatibility issues reported with the booting and built-in audio. Skype, Slack, Discord are all able to make use of the built-in camera and microphone and speakers with Ubuntu 21.04Weighing in at under 3lbs, this laptop is a feather-weight, but with the amazing 2560x1600 17" IPS screen, visual quality is incredible. Sharp crisp text with enough screen real estate to have multiple code editing windows open at once without having to squint at microscopic text.I'd also considered the Dell Inspiron 7706 when choosing this laptop, but the Dell weights twice as much, has significantly lower battery life, and runs hot when placed in one's lap. If I were going to use the laptop for gaming more heavily I'd have leaned more towards the 7706, but I have a main gaming rig, so high intensity gaming on the laptop is not a requirement for me.I'd read reports about the poor speaker sound reproduction, but I'm glad to say that mine Gram 17 doesn't appear to suffer from that. The volume doesn't reach particularly loud levels, but it's more than adequate to listen to Youtube music videos without hating it. Use a good headset if you want premium audio fidelity, but the speakers here are definitely good enough to get the job done adequately. The SSD is a Hynix-brand 1TB drive. It's not the fastest rated SSD on the market, but at >2.5GB/s read transfer rates, it's fast enough for all but the most demanding video editing users. The CPU itself is powerful enough to get all typical jobs done. It's not going to set any speed records, but I was more concerned about battery life for coding on long flights. It'll boost to 4.7GHz as needed though, so small threaded tasks do still run quite quickly.Overall, it meets all my needs, great screen, great keyboard, excellent wireless performance, reliable bluetooth connectivity, decent sound, light, long battery life, and fast enough. At $1699 I do believe it's still a little pricey, and would be better value at $1499-1550 in comparison with the competition, but it fills a particular niche better than anything else on the market, so I guess it commands its price premium on that merit alone. In summary, fantastic 17" laptop. One of the best you can buy if you don't need to do high performance gaming or content editing.
In short - the laptop is really great but it has some quirks.Pros:It has a really good battery life despite having such a big and beautiful display. It's super light for it's size, and the build quality is solid even though I was a little skeptical. But rest assured, the laptop feels well-built for everyday use. Also, the laptop stays super quiet and cool even under heavy load which is pretty cool.Things that annoy me: If you're coming from a MacBook, you'll probably not like the trackpad at first. Don't get me wrong, it's really good according to Windows laptop standards but lacks that response. The second thing that annoys me is the keyboard which is a little mushy and sometimes doesn't pick up key-presses, but this only happens 5% of the time.Cons:Sadly, ... MoreIn short - the laptop is really great but it has some quirks.Pros:It has a really good battery life despite having such a big and beautiful display. I get that to keep the laptop cool, quiet, thin, and get amazing battery life, LG had to reduce the performance but this is way too slow for an 11th Gen i7 laptop. I'm happy to trade in 2-3 hours of battery to get more performance but this laptop just doesn't do that. I wish LG could have given a "high performance" mode in exchange for battery life for a couple of hours.Despite the issues, this laptop is a great choice if you don't care much about the performance.Cheers!
I wanted to give this a 1 star... because the track pad REALLY was so rotten it makes the system virtually unusable. But it would not be fair to ignore all of the other positive aspects of the device, such as its Light weight, its thrift battery consumption, and its ability to function in an airplane power supply environment.Having said all of the positive aspects, It is intolerable that when typing a document the cursor intermittently and unpredictably jumps to weird parts of the document when you aren't looking and Inserts what you are typing, completely distorting your text. It is totally maddening that when you slightly move your finger, nothing happens, but if you apply even slightly greater movement the mouse cursor jumps across the screen. Essentially you will be very happy if you know why you bought it and can customize it to your needs. I bought it as a portable PC and I am not gaming. And clean the registry and disable LG update service. That's tricky for most people. You cannot change power plan unless you go, as I did, to the Device Manager and disable the power saving settings for USB, network, Wi-fi etc.So there is no way to quickly change from the battery saving for travel to high performance. It may be Win 10 Home but it also may be LG setting.Cannot say anything about durability after two weeks. One of the 2 USB C ports has to be used for power
My old laptop was getting to be slow and the batteries were not holding a charge like they used to. It was almost 12 years old, so it was time for something a little more up to date. I had been looking at the LG Gram 17" because of the weight. At 2.98 Lbs., compared to my previous HP Envy 17", I wanted something that was light, yet had a fast processor, large disk space and 17" screen. The LG Gram checks all these boxes and more - it offers a very fast WiFi connection, so this is what I wanted.I don't do gaming on it - I use it for business and am looking forward to taking it on the road to show it off; especially its light weight.I have not found its construction to be an issue as some have. On the other hand, I doubt you could abuse it as much as some of the other, heavier versions from other vendors. Having said that, I think most people would be inclined to be careful and prudent around a system that costs >$1500 to begin with and not treat it carelessly - especially using it on the road! The LG Gram looks impressive, and is sure to turn a few heads, although that was a secondary consideration.I would purchase again and would recommend this machine to others.
