First off, the LG gram really is light, when you have this machine in your hands, just wow!• Camera - remarkable is the first word that popped into my head when I saw the output. For a module so small and on such a thin display, LG has excelled with the quality of the camera, it is crisp and a very natural frame rate. The colours are good and I don’t see signs of heavy processing or poor tuning.• Display - To achieve two goals, I took a photo of the display showing the webcam output. This was to show the quality of the camera and display, however, I struggled because of glare. This display is Matte, but it is also fairly reflective which, when coupled with it not being particularly bright, means that working outside has proven to be a challenge. This display is Matte, but it is also fairly reflective which, when coupled with it not being particularly bright, means that working outside has proven to be a challenge. When indoors, the display is vibrant, the aspect ratio harking back to square displays is great for coding and typing too.• Performance/ Battery life - This machine is designed with long operation away from a plug socket in mind. This design imperative means the little engine that runs this laptop need to sip power and that it does.LG claims 20.5 hours of battery life, but in reality, I saw closer to 15 hours with a balanced workload. Admittedly I am in a bright environment which means the display is on full brightness and I am coding so lots of CPU crunching is going on, as such I am willing to give it the pass when my workhorse eeks out about 2 hours. With this long battery life, you have to give up some power, it is not a speed daemon, but it is respectable , it is definitely not meant to graphical workloads scoring 502 points with Furmark at 1440 and 11FPS. The CPU could almost keep up with my workhorse machine for short stints before it got to toasty, which when on the go, is still very impressive.• Feel - It’s a gram man, they feel impossibly light for their size, but they also feel kind of plastic. I felt like I needed to be careful, the slightest graze could scratch a permanent mark into this expensive kit, and speaking of marks, fingerprint magnet is an apt description for the smooth surface, its saving grace being that its very easy to clean.• Keyboard - Satisfyingly clicky, it was a pleasure to type on, I have not gripes, it was just lovely!• Mega trackpad, a breeze to use but oh boy the click feels plastic.• The speakers are on par with a smartphone, they suffer when not on a hard surface and volume is weak, headphones are a must!

This laptop is a well-balanced machine providing superb performance, with a large screen yet it is compact and lightweight design to make it ultra-portable. To start with this model has a magnificent 16-inch screen that has a fantastic colour range and is extremely vibrant. The display itself is matt which is helpful in different environments where you might get some glare. The screen is 16:10 unlike the traditional 16:9 setup this means you get more real estate on the display which is great for day-to-day productivity tasks but does mean larger black bars when watching movies. This is a 16-inch laptop with a 16:10 display so the actual dimensions are quite large, yet the laptop itself is extremely thin. It is also made with lightweight materials so it feels much lighter than expected, it would be easy to travel with and would fit easily into most bags. There are a couple of downsides to this, the laptop itself feels a bit flexible where there is more plastic in its construction, this isn't noticeable in day-to-day use. I also found that the paint on the lid scratched easily as well.I've used this laptop for general productivity tasks as well as web development with containerisation. The i7 processer handled all these tasks with ease and even under heavy use the fan rarely comes on because the laptop handles heat well. I wouldn't recommend this laptop for gaming as it doesn't have a dedicated GPU and one thing to be aware of is the memory is not upgradeable.Battery life is excellent and performing in line with LG's published figures, I like the option to limited charging the battery to 80% to help extend its life. Overall, this is a quality piece of kit, and I would recommend it anyone looking for an ultra-portable laptop with a large screen.

Microsoft recommends using a MS account to get the full benefits from Windows 11 (e.g. integrated MS OneDrive cloud storage and some enhanced security features). After the initial setup, Windows Update and the "LG Update & Recovery" app need to run to bring the system firmware and Windows 11 fully up to date with the latest security patches. Unfortunately this process took several hours with many reboots before the laptop was fully patched and up to date. My internet connection is quite fast, 100Mb+, so that wasn't the bottleneck.A trial version of MS Office is also included, and if you are an existing MS 365/Office user its straightforward to enter your account details to unlock the full features.Windows 11 is a natural progression on from Win10, so this shouldn't be a barrier from using the device. There are two USB3 ports, two USB-C ports (also used for charging) and an HDMI port. I use an external monitor, printer, scanner, and external storage so I've pretty much used up all the ports. All of my devices were auto detected and drivers auto installed by Windows 11.Fortunately LG haven't installed too much unwanted software. I have uninstalled the provided AV software and am using Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. Thanks to the SSD, boot/startup times are fast and there are no performance issues in using standard office software.

At last, a laptop that not only fast enough to play moderately demanding games, but despite the 17-inch screen which is a joy to behold, also light enough to carry around and has battery life that keeps it going all day. You might want more RAM or storage if you were editing videos but the specs suggest you can add more storage; I haven't opened it up to check. The centrepiece though is the display. I love the anti-glare screen so I can sit by a window without seeing reflections, narrow bezels allow the screen to fill the field of view and it's plenty bright enough for my uses.Othe user interface issues: the keyboard is just deep and clicky enough to be great to type on, and the separate number pad is useful too - if only for the Enter key that sits on the far right and is easy to prod when typing quickly. If I had a criticism, it would be that the Enter key in the middle of the keyboard is harder to pick out than if it were larger, and I'd prefer the Home and End keys, which I use a lot when typing, not to require use of the Fn key. The black case also picks up fingerprints easily but these are easy to remove with isopropyl alcohol. Or vodka will probably work too! And I'd prefer to have had Windows Pro installed by default rather than Home just for the additional networking functionality but that's simple to remedy.Charging is via a USB-C port and the charger itself is a fairly small, lightweight component, making the whole apparatus easy to carry around when necessary.Overall, after weeks of research, I'm delighted with the laptop which brings together everything you might want at the right price in a 17-inch laptop. I first spotted the Gram and thought it was probably too good but couldn't find another product to beat it.

This laptop ticks all the boxes. It is lightweight, with a large clear, and crisp screen, that is sturdy and not flimsy. Constantly traveling up and down the country for work I was conscious before purchasing that it would be a chore to carry a 17" screen and that I would have to recharge it a few times on journeys - I was very wrong. It is very portable, and not a chore to transport. The long battery life allows around 12+ hrs of constant use and up to 19.5 hrs use for less intense operation. In short, it allows you to get your work done without the need to charge even on long journeys. The laptop also comes with a security mode that restricts the camera and microphone entirely - ideal for those who are security conscious.Small additions that I think are useful to note are that the keyboard is backlit with three options - off | low light | high light - which is ideal for those of us who like to work late at night or in poor light conditions. Keyboard related too is that in the box there was a keyboard cover that sits nicely over the keyboard and stops crumbs from getting between or under the keys for all of us who like to eat nearby. Lastly, Alexa is built in! Ideal for all of us music lovers, you do not have to set this option up but if you do want to it will require an Amazon account.Overall it is a top-of-the-range sleek-looking laptop with a powerful machine inside. The laptop in my opinion is ideal for people who are always on the go, require a laptop to run large software programs and do not have the opportunity to always charge it. Being top of the range means it costs a little more and in my opinion, is definitely a worthwhile investment! But for those who don't want such a large screen, there is the 16" option available, also running similar specs. The laptop is light and powerful. It is designed to make Life Good.
The item arrived in a very neat box with little waste which I thought was a good starting point and you could tell it was incredibly lightweight.I found the device very easy to set up and get started with and new users should be aware that providing you have all your passwords for log ins a lot of what you have in terms of browser settings with passwords will carry over.It will prompt you to sign up to various cloud based software from Microsoft but all that is optional and can be skipped past. The retina log in is a really nice feature and overall the look and feel of the device is very nice. The challenges of moving from an older laptop to a newer one is that if this is your primary device you need to be aware it only has 1 USB port and no HDMI or Display ... MoreThe item arrived in a very neat box with little waste which I thought was a good starting point and you could tell it was incredibly lightweight.I found the device very easy to set up and get started with and new users should be aware that providing you have all your passwords for log ins a lot of what you have in terms of browser settings with passwords will carry over.It will prompt you to sign up to various cloud based software from Microsoft but all that is optional and can be skipped past. The retina log in is a really nice feature and overall the look and feel of the device is very nice. The challenges of moving from an older laptop to a newer one is that if this is your primary device you need to be aware it only has 1 USB port and no HDMI or Display port. It has 2 x USB C ports so if you have devices plugged in like I have (Label printer, portable scanner, mouse) you will need to buy some kind of expansion dock to be able to use those. The stylus is great and very easy to use and very handy but it has no place to slot it so I am anticipating losing it quickly. It really needed a way to keep it especially when folded over to use as a tablet.I have not used a 2in1 fold over like this before and I personally do not like to feel the keyboard when it is folded over but this is just the way it is. Also, the fan is pretty loud and gets quite warm.Battery life seems good and there are various settings to prolong that with the screen settings.Overall, I do like this device a lot and I am sure I will get used to the small things I have mentioned. I have replaced my wired mouse with a wireless mouse for example as although the trackpad is nice I do a lot of copy/paste and find having a mouse much better for that.
The LG gram 17Z90Q 17" Laptop is definitely a force to be reckoned with. The hallmark of this laptop is its generously large screen of 17”, weighing in at under 1.4kg, which is quite an impressive feat – providing a slim and lightweight experience, making it more convenient to take this laptop on the move with you. Whilst you’re on the move, you can be at ease, knowing that the average laptop battery life lasts around 16 hours between charges. The screen itself is near bezel-less, making it as compact as it could be for a 17” laptop. The 16:10 aspect ratio provides incredibly sharp resolution, that is further backed by a bright screen, with 350 nits and anti-glare coating, ensuring on a sunny day, your screen can be seen with ease! For those who like to use dual-screens, the LG Gram has the ability to pair with the gram+ view, for a more proactive multi-tasking experience. The LG Gram already runs on the latest operating system (Windows 11), making the set-up quite a breeze, with no long downloads, meaning the laptop is virtually ready-to-go straight from unboxing. The RAM storage on the laptop is 16GB LPDDR5 (@5200 MHz), which means this laptop can handle multiple high-performance tasks simultaneously, whether this be having many programs running, files or multiple screens open- this laptop can truly do it all!The 12th gen Intel (i7) processor provides the laptop with high-end power when it comes to processing speeds, leading to CPU performance that makes no compromises, as the 12 efficient cores within the I7 work intelligently, providing faster speeds when gaming, multi-tasking or media-editing. There are no compromises in storage either, as this laptop is fitted with a terabyte of solid-state storage, which provides enormous amount of space for media, apps, files and games, that can be accessed faster than HDD options. It is note-worthy to mention that SDD are noticeably quieter, lighter and more energy-efficient!The customized features and adaptations unique to this laptop are extremely appreciated, which is all thanks to LG Glance.Unfortunately, the LG gram doesn’t have touchscreen applications, which was a shame, however, with such a high-resolution screen, one does think that smudgy fingerprints would indeed taint the immersive experience! It is also quite an expensive piece of hardware, meaning it isn’t a likely option if you’re on a budget, albeit you do get what you pay for.
The LG gram is not the first laptop to try to be a lightweight workhorse, but it is the best. When you unbox the laptop, it looks like many others you see, its all black, standard profile, but the added screen real estate is very obvious. The real surprise comes when you pick it up out the box, the laptop feels feather light.Lets start with design and feel then. The material is a magnesium alloy which is lightweight as I have covered. It’s a neutral feeling material, it doesn’t feel cold like the metal of a mac or other metal laptops, and it feels premium. It offers a wide aspect display, but the actual proportions of this 16 inch display feel like most other 15 inch laptops, so it isn’t obviously larger or any less portable than a smaller comparative. It offers a wide aspect display, but the actual proportions of this 16 inch display feel like most other 15 inch laptops, so it isn’t obviously larger or any less portable than a smaller comparative. The hinge is smooth, the display is matte (office workers will delight). It offers up 2 x USB 3 ports, a micro SD slot, a headphone jack, 2 x Thunderbolt ports and a HDMI port. All in all you get a very well stocked and useful connectivity array. Did I also mention this thing is light? The display is excellent, colour reproduction is good, with a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution. Key travel is relatively shallow but that’s the same on any modern ultrabook, and the typing experience is excellent. The keyboard is backlit, and the very useful LG software on board allows you to customise the level of backlighting, as well as the fan, with a range of modes available ranging from silent to high performance. The specs sheet continues the strong trend - the core i7-1260p is frankly excellent, handling any task with ease (it’s a 12 core 16 thread CPU). Paired with 16GB of LPDDR5 memory and a really fast SSD, there was nothing that the LG Gram 16 couldn’t handle easily. With all this in mind, you may expect that battery life takes a hit. An ultra powerful CPU in a lightweight laptop and usually you find there is a trade off, but not here. Battery life was strong, easily lasting a very full day (over 12 hours) of work on a single charge. The Macbook air is the closest comparative to the type of long battery life you get, but that is heavier and comes with a much smaller, glossy screen.Where the LG Gram really shines is this combination of power, battery life and the significant boost in screen real estate the 16 inch display offers you. It really is a desktop replacement in a portable and lightweight package and if you are looking for a laptop for office or university, this is one to go for. It’s the complete package.
