Great TV with a few minor drawbacks.

I bought the 65” UR8000 to replace an older 60” LG. After comparing similar models of other brands I selected the LG because it offered the best features and picture for the money. Plus Costco had it for excellent price and three year extended warranty. LG has always been very reliable and I was not prepared to take the risk of the newly popular Chinese TVs. Also my home entertainment system wiring is set up for right side TV inputs like this LG. The sound and picture are excellent and I really like the amount of advanced settings that are offered. So why not a five star review? First, the magic remote takes time to get used to and can be frustrating to work with. Third, when using an external streaming device you have to turn off the TV in a particular order or the TV will randomly turn on. In summary this is an excellent TV for the price and the picture rivals that of the Chinese brands OLEDs. I would recommend but would caution that it has some draw backs.

It can be changed in settings so it boots to whatever input you watched last. The adverts can be turned off. There isn't a physical user manual. These tend to be more confusing in my opinion and my advice is just take the remote and find out what does what. You cannot break the tv with the remote control. Research on the internet can help you here as well.I don't like the magic remote. These are absolutely no good for anyone who is maybe disabled and doesn't have a steady hand. I find these type of remotes frustrating and LG should include in standard remote in the box.You don't have to use the remote supplied with the tv. Any LG smart remote should work. I am currently using my spare from my 2016 model LB650v LG and the one from another LG smart tv works also. I would advise anyone who finds the remote frustrating to buy a standard LG smart tv remote. The interface is slow but the tv is at the budget end of the price range and to be expected. There comes a point where you get what you pay for and this is a value tv. The main focus should be on the quality if the image on screen as that is the main purpose of the tv and I am extremely picky and I think the image is absolutely fine.I have set mine up with a HDD so it will pause, rewind and record. It's not quite set up box standard but it performs the basic functions well. This has to be a portable HDD and not a flash disk as flash disks do not work.So pleased I bought this tv.

WE use the tv with multiple sources, cable, PC,older video machine, new and older game consoles. This made picture set up - tricky- a lot of trial and error. Picture options seemed scattered over several screens. Some options good for some uses- not others. Finally got it right 3 months later. 4K works now with PC nvidea.Sound is better than expected -ok for mfg home- might lack in presence for some people but we play it quiet. Actually the sound quality is now good. We had HDMI crackling and popping we couldn't find a cause for. A new HDMI cable removed popping. PC crackling required turning PRO sound off. Prior $1500 Toshiba lasted 100 days--total loss, not repairable.

Not great

This TV arrived today and after spending hours trying to set it up, it still has a rather dull picture and abysmal sound quality.Having forked out close on £400 for it, do I now have to pay even more for a sound bar to make it acceptable? I changed from an Android tv because that had terrible software reliability issues, but at least the picture and sound were good. The viewing angle seems to be quite narrow and anything off to one side or above the centre gives an almost invisible picture. Maybe it is designed to be viewed from below!I tried to use the App to set it up by scanning the bar code, but that did not work and I eventually had to use the website to do it. There is a way to change the start up screen to be last settings mode, but it takes some finding. The range of adjustments for brightness are quite limited and so are the sound settings when you eventually get into them. Even at maximum clarity setting, the picture does not look as sharp as the old Android TV. Or even as sharp as my previous LG 32" TV which is now about 10 years old.Not impressed so far!

Ok for budget TV

I've had this 55UR8000 for a month now. This is the 2nd LG Smart TV I've owned, replacing the first one which was around 7 years old.My biggest gripe is the Magic Remote. Its pointer automatically appears when you open certain menus, and even if you unregister the pointer (press home and back button simultaneously) it re-registers again the next time you need to use the enter button. The quickest way to bypass the pointer is to immediately push one of the arrow buttons which temporarily deactivates it, but it will keep appearing every time you go to the home screen or other menus. Also, a steady hand is needed when using the pointer since it's easy to move the remote when pressing the enter button. Also, a steady hand is needed when using the pointer since it's easy to move the remote when pressing the enter button. Additionally, the scroll function uses the same button as enter, so sometimes all you mean to do is press enter but you end up scrolling at the same time. Luckily my old remote works with the new TV.My other complaint is the slowness of the TV to call up the settings menu. There's a full 3-second lag between pushing the settings button and the settings menu actually apearing. Not sure why this is, except it's trying to connect to the stupid pointer? My old TV had no lag at all.Picture and sound quality are adequate, after all this is an entry level tv. Of course you can adjust picture and sound settings to your liking, and I've never seen a need for a sound bar. I've tried connecting the remote to my Roku and it's inconsistent with response so I've given up and gone back to the normal Roku remote. And I like that you have the option to opt out of certain things, like seeing advertisements on the home screen or disabling video previews or sound.

[Rewarded Review] Addressing Image Processing in LG Large Screen TV
1 December 2023

The construction quality and design of the television are good. The ability to connect to the internet and access various free channels is excellent. The categorization and access to other sources of movies, series, and music have been well implemented. However, a problem I've noticed occurs when watching 4K, 8K, or 12K films. The color grading of the images noticeably changes during viewing, indicating a weakness in the TV's processor for image processing. This issue is not very apparent on smaller TVs but is quite noticeable and problematic on an 86-inch TV, showing that the television struggles with image processing. Another aspect that LG needs to address is the limited selection of films available on its channel, which could be more extensive and varied. ... MoreThe construction quality and design of the television are good. [Rewarded Review] Alexa smart capabilities disappointing

Very disappointed with Alexa smart capabilities. The only thing I can do with my Alexa echo is work the volume on my LG UR8000 50 inch TV. I have spent two days playing with getting Alexa to work for this TV registering re-registering unregistering, thin Q app, at one point Alexa app gave me an on/off capabilities within the app, once TV was turned off within the app it would not turn back on from within the app. And this only happened once when resetting and re-registering it. Also for some reason when it discovers the TV it shows two TVs within the app one said “TV” the others said “LG webOS 2023 TV”. Tried managing devices within the app to use with LG TV made no difference. guess I can look on the bright side, don’t have to pick up the remote to change volume, at least for now. most of the time TV shows as off-line or unavailable within the app. Not to mention I do not want to be going in the app that is the whole reason for voice recognition to the echo device.

Thing is, without a bunch of detail, as long as I don't turn the TV off & stay on Fire TV, all's well. Otherwise, the cursor is just way too jumpy for me to want to waste time messing with it when I should be working.

We purchased this TV for our Christmas present to ourselves. While it was fairly easy to assemble and set up, I did find that the TV was fairly complicated to use, with a lot of functions that I still do not use or understand. I also found that it didn't have the accessory connections that I needed for our VHS tape playor or DVD player, so cannot use them now at all. I also cannot set up our sound system that we had from our previous TV since there is no sound output and the LG sound system costs more than the TV did, so that's out of our range. We are still working on understanding how to use the TV and it's many function and station apps. With all of the setups and user guide information on the TV and not a booklet, and us being an older generation, we are struggling to use many of the functions, and even setups. We still have to use 2 remotes, since we have Dish Satellite system, which will shut down after a couple of hours of inactivity, and it will not start up without using the remote for Dish. It's also harder to change channels, look at the guide, etc., for Dish using the LG remote. So that being said, it's not all that we hoped that it would be.The picture quality and overall TV system is quite nice compared to our older TV, but not having our sound bar for a quality sound, not having hookups for our DVD and VHS systems, it is not as useful as our older TV.We still really like the TV itself and the quality though. The price was decent as well. Only time will tell if we will purchase another LG after this one.
