LifeStraw Peak Series Collapsible Water Bottle With Filter 650ml Blue

$38.99

(496 reviews)

Simple and durable, the LifeStraw Peak Series Collapsible Squeeze 650ml Bottle with Filter weighs just over 3 ounces and provides runners, hikers, and travelers with a means to not only to carry water but to safely treat it on the go. The membrane microfilter effectively filters up to 500 gallons of water (depending on water quality). This handy all-in-one system acts as both storage and filtration. An internal hollow-fiber filter is 99.999% effective against waterborne bacteria, parasites (including Giardia and Cryptosporidium), microplastics, silt, sand, and cloudiness. No pumping is required and there is no need to allow time for purification to occur. Simply fill the flask, screw on the combination filter and cap, and squeeze for clean, safe water! For cleaning, a custom backwash accessory is included to avoid clogs and maintain a fast flow rate. All of the materials used in the filter and soft flask are BPA-free. The collapsible flask holds a little over 20 ounces of water and is made of durable materials for reliable performance during far-flung adventures. The flask cap protects against leakage and has a drinking spout for easy sipping. A smaller screw-top cap keeps the spout clean when not in use. There's also a carry hook for attaching the system to a pack. While designed to be used with the included soft flask, the filter has a threaded bottom that can be used with standard water bottles or other LifeStraw Peak Series systems (both sold separately). The LifeStraw Peak Series Collapsible Squeeze 650ml Bottle with Filter is available in your choice of colors.

I read a comment about it rather risk him/herself drinking regular water rather than use the life straw, well go for it bud but drinking a little filtrated water with cardboard taste is 1000 times better than getting a bacteria messing up your whole system. Easy to use, great water filter system

Water filter systems have come a long way, and all of the LifeStraw products I have used have been high-quality and simple to use. The Peak Squeeze is perhaps the easiest to use, as it's a fully self-contained water filtration system. It has a filter and water bottle built into one device. I no longer have to fill the plastic bag and filter at the source. With this system, you can fill the bottle and go! If you need to fill other bottles, the process is simple. Just filter the Peak Squeeze into the other bottles, refill, and repeat. There are three things I loved about this product in particular when compared to other products I have used:- Size - it’s compact. The filter alone is much smaller than the other filters I have used, and the bottle is designed to fold ... MoreWater filter systems have come a long way, and all of the LifeStraw products I have used have been high-quality and simple to use. There are three things I loved about this product in particular when compared to other products I have used:- Size - it’s compact. The filter alone is much smaller than the other filters I have used, and the bottle is designed to fold as flat as possible when not in use. It easily fits into a backpack or bike bag.- Design - It’s design is simple, but purposeful. The lid, while sometimes a little hard to unscrew, is a great detail. When filling the bottle the entire thing is drenched, probably with contaminated water. To be as safe as possible, you want to dry that off without allowing it to touch drinking surfaces. The lid lets you do this easily and dry the entire thing off without cross contamination. There’s also a little hook and a harder portion at the top which makes storage, carrying, and disassembly all easy.- Durability - Whatever the bottle itself is made of is solid. I always worry with soft water bladders that I will break, puncture, or pop them. I don’t have that concern with this one. I dropped it on some rocks by mistake; no issue. I shoved it in my bag, left it on the ground… I expect this to put up with a lot of abuse. For a day trip, it’s great by itself. For a longer trip, you might consider carrying a backup water source bottle. But, here’s some good news, the filter that comes with this system works with standard water bottle thread sizes! So if you wanted to carry a compact, lightweight water bag or collapsible bottle incase the Peak Squeeze gets a leak, it’ll work! You could even buy bottled water and keep the bottle to refill later to use with this filter. All in all, this is a great water filter, and I recommend it to basically everyone. If you’re new to water filters, start here. It’s easy, and it will build some confidence in drinking “dirty water” sources. LifeStraw specifically makes products designed to be used with 0 experience, and the Peak Squeeze is as simple as it comes! If you’re experienced, then rest assured that the build quality and feature set on this system is solid!

It was not the cap but the screw top that came loose, likely from being pressed on and loosened by something else in my pack. I think moving the carabiner attachment link from the screw head to the top side or bottom of the bag would be a great fix as I've had other problems with bottles coming open when a carabiner attachment is fixed to a screw cap- seems like not the best idea. (I didn't have a carabiner attached to it btw)One more note, I purchased the smaller size and my friend had the larger one. While the smaller one was compact and convenient, I found myself wishing mine was a little bigger as I'm a big water drinker.Anyway, after 2 weeks of use me and my 2 friends left all of our bottles with our Masai friends who have difficulty accessing clean water easily. I'll be purchasing another one when I need it.

Great at filtering, but bag is small
30 June 2023

I think this filter is definitely the most durable of the squeeze filters I have tried, the bottle feels least likely to spring a leak. The flow rate is pretty good, however I would definitely recommend going with a larger bag size than 22 fl. oz. Of course you can say that the filter will do 3 litres per minute, but with such a small bag that's definitely not possible, you'll have to keep refilling regularly. This size would probably be best for a trail running situation where you are just going to drink directly from the bag (especially because if you are squeezing into a different container it is hard to get the last bit out of the bag so you aren't going to be filtering 22 oz with each fill. But in terms of the filter action I think it is very good and is a very convenient system that takes up a small footprint in the pack. The only other reason I knocked off a star was because somehow the filter managed to unscrew itself from the cap in the bag the first time I put it in my pack. You definitely want to check to make sure everything is screwed together before something accidentally gets dropped and floats away. I do plan to keep bringing this on trips since the bag on my other squeeze filter fills me with trepidation but I will likely upgrade to a larger bag size.

Ignore Influenster

I'm also curious why this has high reviews seeing as how most of those Influenster accounts are more than likely bots. Please take into the account the previous reviews for this product. The product itself is pretty poor, and it's nothing special or convienent in the way LifeStraw markets it. As some have mentioned, the filter is unreliable and if it gets unscrewed the mouthpiece itself potentially becomes compromised to the dirty water. And yes, you cannot get every drop of water out if you leave it in the default configuration. The only way to really use this, reliably, is to NOT have the filter screwed to the bottom, but rather to the top in order to minimize cross contamination. If you want a safer product with minimized risk just stick to BeFree, Sawyer, or any of those other filters that have been clearly tested for quite some time. Knowing what I know now, this is my backup, backup, backup water filter. In other words, it will probably stay in a bin in my garage until a dire emergency happens. If this product received a better filter that wasn't so poorly designed, it would have my recommendation. The flow is actually pretty incredible, but you just have to keep the filter wet. Of course, in order to do this you have to keep the product in it's default configuration. Do not do that.

To be honest the MEC product page doesn't do this bottle justice, and I'd recommend looking at LifeStraw's site. It's EXTREMELY versatile. You have a 42mm cap and a 28mm cap, a filter with 28mm threads on each end, and a pretty cool bottle too. You can use it to filter out an entire reservoir like the HydraPak Seeker 4L with the filter attached to the outside of the 42mm cap. You can use the bottle on its own with the filter inside it. You can put the filter on the outside of any bottle with the standard plastic bottle-style 28mm threads, or on the outside of the included bottle to get every last drop of water out. You can put the filter on the outside of any bottle with the standard plastic bottle-style 28mm threads, or on the outside of the included bottle to get every last drop of water out. Once you've filtered it you can remove the filter and use the rest of the body as a good bottle cap for either your 42mm or 28mm mouthpiece (just make sure to have separate bottles for dirty and clean, no matter how you set them up). You can even take the filter and mouthpiece on their own and use them as a straw (not recommended because then you're bending over puddles). The filter is also compatible with their gravity filter systems. This one is slightly cheaper than the Katadyn BeFree filter, and has a better flow rate and longer maximum filter life by about double. The filter is more versatile on this LifeStraw than the Katadyn too.My recommended ecosystem for this would be this (Peak bottle and filter), the HydraPak Seeker 4L reservoir, any sort of hydration bladder for your backpack. When you're collecting water at your camp, fill the Seeker 4L with dirty water and put the filter in on the outside of the cap. Pour clean water from the reservoir into the Peak squeeze bottle this filter comes with. Remove the filter and cap from the Seeker reservoir and put the included cap back on the reservoir. Unscrew the filter from the cap and place the cap back on your Peak squeeze bottle to drink out of. To fill your water bladder just do the same thing but pouring directly from the Seeker into the bladder. No Nalgene bottles taking up space, almost no hard materials at all, and great for the campsite and the trail!

Packable and EASY to use! Love it.

My use: trail running, overnight hiking, and bikepacking. The form factor of this collapsible filter bottle is indeed practical! It's lightweight, the smaller size is enough to get you to the next water source in a jam if something goes wrong with your other bottle(s), and the construction is proving to be quite good.I have used the Lifestraw Straws for years but they can't refill other bottles, and the Sawyer Squeeze-type filter needs to attach to another bottle or pouch, which adds up on the space and stuff. This product is most similar to the slightly more flimsy feeling Katadyn collapsible bottle and honestly - this one has me sold for now.On longer runs and races, I use a hydration vest (see pictures) and the soft flasks don't hold as much as I'd like some ... MoreMy use: trail running, overnight hiking, and bikepacking. The form factor of this collapsible filter bottle is indeed practical! This product is most similar to the slightly more flimsy feeling Katadyn collapsible bottle and honestly - this one has me sold for now.On longer runs and races, I use a hydration vest (see pictures) and the soft flasks don't hold as much as I'd like some days. This Lifestraw bottle is a game-changer for me. The little tapered nozzle is perfect for refilling bottles with small openings (soft flask or Smartwater, whatever you've got). I toss it in my pack and it doesn't feel like it's even there, but then after I find a water source and refill my other flasks, I can fill this and it fits perfectly in the front of my vest with the other soft flasks if I want to bring more water for the next segment of a run. While hiking and bikepacking, all the above applies. This bottle is collapsable, lightweight, efficient, and easy to use for refilling other bottles. I tend to carry more water bottles on my person while hiking and biking, and this has proven to be a no-fuss bottle for filtering water on trail. The construction of the bottle feels durable. The pouch has a grippy texture to it. The lid is easy to remove and install. The mouth nozzle felt narrow at first but it's effective and serves a good function. The pouch has notable welded seams, which I'm sure helps ensure squeezing water through the filter isn't an issue. It's really great and I'm taking it with me everywhere now.Now that spring is finally springing, I'll give it a solid test all summer and probably return with a longer review down the road.Happy trails!

There are better filters out there

I was sent this product for review by REI.Pros: The flow rate is nice when the water bottle is full (what if it’s not full? See Cons below.) and the collapsible bottle is useful for storage. It’s nice that the filter comes with a plunger to back flush the filter when it gets dirty or clogged. It filters water as advertised but I think there are better water filters out there.Cons:1. The filter can’t filter all the water in the bottle; it can only filter about 85-90% of it. Why? Because the filter is shaped like a short straw. The filter is 2-3 inches long with one end connected to the output that you drink from and the opposite end opening into the bottle 2-3in for water intake, like a short straw. But this short straw means that as you flip the water bottle ... MoreI was sent this product for review by REI.Pros: The flow rate is nice when the water bottle is full (what if it’s not full? Because the filter is shaped like a short straw. The filter is 2-3 inches long with one end connected to the output that you drink from and the opposite end opening into the bottle 2-3in for water intake, like a short straw. But this short straw means that as you flip the water bottle upside-down to drink, when the water level drops below 2-3in, the water drops below the opening for the water input and the filter no longer receives water. As a result, you’ll always have a bit of water in the bottle that can never be filtered. I tried various way of scrunching the bottle and trying to squeeze the air out to get the last few inches of water with no success.2. The filter of the Lifestraw is 0.2microns which is small enough to filter most protozoa and bacteria but it is not small enough to filter tiny bacteria like leptospira. This filter would be fine to use in the backcountry of North America (but not Hawaii as Hawaii has leptospira) and probably Europe, but I’m not sure if I’d fully trust this filter in other places around the world without doing some research first. There are many other brands that use filters that are 0.1microns or smaller and can be used in wider variety of places in the world (including Hawaii).3. I don’t recommend the 1L size collapsible bottle as it is awkward to use. When it’s full, it fits into the side pockets of my backpack just fine but as I drink the water, the bottle collapses, becomes floppy, and it becomes more challenging than I’d like to stuff the bottle into the side pockets. Maybe I’m just a person who likes more structure to their water bottles and/or prefers water bladders… or maybe the smaller sized collapsible water bottle might have less of the half-full flopping issue.

There's better options out there

I've owned several of these style bottle filters from a few different brands. I had high hopes for the Lifestraw version, but it has several noticeable shortcomings. First, the filter gets clogged WAY faster than the Kayadyn BeFree version. This one was filtering noticeably slower after just 2 cycles. I was filtering water from a crystal clear river in Northern WI and have filtered water from this river for years and never had this issue so soon. In order to backflush, you'll need the syringe that they send you, which can easily be lost. Because the intake on the Lifestraw filter is only on the end of it, water is only allowed to enter through a small potion of the filter....and it's the same with the backflushing. With the Kayadyn version, the filter is open 360 degrees around the filter, so a simple swooshing of the filter in the water will clean it. I must have run 10 syringes worth of water back through this thing and it's not one bit better. I've gotten approx 3 years(hundreds of bottles worth) through my Katadyn before the filter wouldn't process water any longer. My Lifestraw is almost to that point after a single 3 day trip.

Water water everywhere
15 February 2023

Just so you know, I waited 24 hours after drinking lake water from the Collapsible LifeStraw. I didn’t get sick. In short, it did the job. I live in New England where giardia is as common as maple leaves, so that was good news. I also liked how easy it was to use - you scoop, screw and sip. Basically, it’s a Lifestraw stuck inside a collapsible container so no more stressing about having a water source nearby. The backwash syringe to keep the filter clean is a little fiddly at first, but I got the hang of it by the third try. However, I was not thrilled that I couldn’t actually see the water. The collapsible container is made from “BPA free premium materials” (what is this stuff?) which is basically a dark soft bag that squished up to fit inside my jacket pocket. ... MoreJust so you know, I waited 24 hours after drinking lake water from the Collapsible LifeStraw. The collapsible container is made from “BPA free premium materials” (what is this stuff?) which is basically a dark soft bag that squished up to fit inside my jacket pocket. But this meant that I didn’t know if there were particles in the water after filtering. Also, the max fill line on the outside seems sort of useless since I couldn’t really see when I reached it. I also And I don’t see how to clean it other than adding the saline solution recommended for long-term storage. The filter is not supposed to dry out, but I am leary that the inside of the water container never gets completely dry or clean. So thumb’s up on ease of use, convenience and taste and thumb’s down on cleanup. I would have appreciated more specific drawings for how to work the backwash for us visual learners.
