The base station is interesting and being able to connect to 3 systems at the same time is neat, but I wonder if bundling this headset with what is essentially an AV switcher adds to the cost unnecessarily. If you are a gamer that is constantly switching between multiple consoles I think the A50 X provides a novel solution, but it feels like a niche use case.Unboxing the A50 X, I found the build quality to be fine, but not great. It’s a mostly plastic build with some shiny surfaces that are just begging for fingerprints. The headset adjusts to fit via 2 metal rails that worked well for me and holds position well. I did have to adjust it to just about the maximum position to fit my large head. The headband and ear cups are made of a fabric material similar to the A40 I used previously. It feels comfortable against my head, but I wouldn’t call it ‘premium’. There are buttons on the right ear cup for game/voice balance and a couple more around the back for Bluetooth and source switching, in addition to a volume wheel and on/off switch. All of the buttons and the wheel on the headset have a good tactile feel, though it would be easy to mix them up by feel as they are of similar size. The microphone flips up and down and is very flexible, so getting it to the ideal position next to my mouth was not a problem. The base station, which also doubles as an AV switcher, has 2 HDMI inputs, one HDMI output, and 3 USB-C ports, with one USB for PlayStation and Xbox and the final one as a power/PC connection. For a wireless product you have to contend with a whole lot of cables to use the A50 X at its full capability. The box includes a special USB-C cable that splits between the PC and an included power brick, so the base station is not dependent on receiving power from a PC or console. There is also one additional USB-C to USB-A cable, but if you are planning on using both a PlayStation and an Xbox you will need to contribute additional cabling to the setup to make it all work. No HDMI cable is included with the A50 X. I wouldn’t exactly call this setup plug and play and planning the base station’s position in relation to all of your devices and routing cables will be a major factor to getting a clean arrangement in the end.The A50 X charges via magnetic pins on the base station, though it is very easy to position the headset in the wrong way or even not land it correctly on the pins when you do have it positioned correctly. There are indicators on both the headset and the base station that will let you know the headset is charging, but I do wish it landed in the base a little more seamlessly. The battery life is rated at 24 hours, but unless you are not docking the headset between gaming sessions I doubt you will ever run into a dead battery situation. The A50 X is wireless and uses Logitech’s Lightspeed protocol, which has worked well for my mice and keyboards and so far has not been a problem with this headset. I haven’t experienced any signal drops or other wireless weirdness at all in the week or so I’ve had it. There is also Bluetooth onboard that can play simultaneously with the Lightspeed audio, but it is tied to the base station and not the headset, so the A50 X could not be used as a Bluetooth headset away from the base station.Once I had the A50 X connected I was primarily gaming on my PC with the included Dolby Atmos license enabled. The sound quality on the A50 X is fantastic. The semi-open design doesn’t isolate you very well from outside noise, but it gives a nice wide soundstage that’s easy to get lost in. It is somewhat lacking in bass at the default EQ, but overall I found the sound to be clean and pleasant. The microphone is one of the best I’ve ever used in a headset and, from the samples I’ve heard, seems to be miles better than the one in Logitech’s other high end headset, the Pro X 2. There is no Blue branding or functionality in the G Hub software like there is on other Logitech headsets, but there are some basic tweaks to the microphone EQ as well like the Broadcast preset, which adds a little more warmth and boom to your voice. The volume adjustment wheel on the headset is independent from the system volume controls, so pushing one of those to their max and controlling the volume from the other place is the ideal way to go with the A50 X.I did not test the A50 X on a console, but as I’ve come to understand the A50 X has full 4K/120Hz passthrough and supports HDR, VRR, and ALLM. When the headset is off, the console will play its audio through the normal sound system and when it is on that audio is routed through the headset. It’s a cool solution, but having to get HDMI cables and USB cables involved hooking up a headset to your console feels like a lot of extra work.Overall I’m happy with the A50 X and I think it’s a great headset, especially if you game on multiple platforms. My main negative comments are I think the build is a little flimsy for the price and I wish it fit better into the base station. If you are only on a single platform or don’t switch between them very often it may be worth considering something less expensive, or something else in this price range that might offer additional features like noise canceling or on-headset Bluetooth.

Logitech claims up to 24 hours of gameplay but unfortunately, I cannot speak to that because I place them back on the base station for automatic charging whenever I take them off my head - it is a convenient stand for me and they cling to the stand magnetically. The sound from these headphones is outstanding - it is clear and precise. The sound is so clear in fact, when I am not gaming, I use the bluetooth to listen to music. Absolutely full sound - incredible actually. I had tons of headsets, some may sound a bit better especially the open back headsets but they are not as comfortable or are too heavy, these sound great and have a solid smooth bass where other headsets I had were a bit shaky and painful in heavy bass, I can even hear footsteps without having to turn the bass down like on other headsets so you can still enjoy the game sounds and still hear opponents, these also feel so much better on your ears than any headset we ever had. I’m honestly not sure what else you would need in a set of gaming headphones as the new Logitech Astro A50 X LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming headset comes with most bells and whistles. The Astro A50 X package contains the headphones, the HDMI base station, a USB-A to USB-C cable, a combo cable for your PC and the power adapter with a variety of plug heads depending on what region you are using these. The sound is crystal clear with no delay in response thanks to the pro-grade LIGHTSPEED wireless technology they have. Possibly one of the greatest features the Astro A50’s offer is the ability to link all of your gaming consoles through their multi-system base station which allows you to run all your console’s HDMI cables and PC’s USB connections through it and which doubles as the docking station for your wireless headphones. The HDMI passthroughs offer Ultra HD resolution with 24-bit audio and 4K 120Hz video. On top of the input/passthrough options, it also has a Bluetooth connection in the event you want to pair it with your phone or other device. The next feature I always look for in a gaming headset that you might be spending hours on end wearing is the comfort. For me that means no high-end leather or vinyl material on the ear cushions as they cause me to sweat which is no bueno. The Astro A50s, thankfully, use a soft and cool mesh cloth type material that feels nice around the ears for hours on end. The 48kHz full-bandwidth broadcast quality LIGHTSPEED mic pairs perfectly with the high-end headphones and easily tucks away on the side when not in use. After using the headphones for several hours, it’s almost like they were not in use as the battery level barely budged meaning you can enjoy hours of use without worrying about the pesky low battery warnings and ending a game session. You can tinker with and fine tune your audio experience using the advanced Logitech G Hub on your PC and mobile application which has a 10-band equalizer, microphone settings, noise reduction and more. All that being said, the new Astro A50 X’s were obviously designed and manufactured for the hardcore gamers and could even double as your new over-the-ear music headphones when not gaming. The only thing I can think of that these might be lacking is haptic feedback which I had in my previous gaming headphones however that more of a bonus rather than a necessity and Logitech did another amazing job catering to gamers.

The Logitech G A50 X lightspeed, wireless gaming headset is a solid headset. In the box includes the headset, the base station, and USB cables. The base station is a charging dock, it also allows you to connect your Xbox, PS5 and PC all at once, with a toggle button on the headset that lets you switch between them. It also has a Bluetooth receiver built into it, to connect to mobile phones.I’m not a huge fan of having to connect my systems to the base station with an HDMI and USB (for each system), as it adds unnecessary cables and clutter. This kind of defeats the purpose of them being wireless, I would have preferred a wireless USB dongle, or the Bluetooth receiver built into the headset, instead of having to use the dock. The A50 X Headset has excellent build quality, plus its incredibly comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The soft cushion pads on each ear, are both comfortable and provides air passage so your ears don’t get too sweaty. Each ear cushion can both be removed as they’re just attached magnetically. This makes it very convenient when they get worn out and you need to swap them out for new ones. There is also another cushion that rests on top of your head to provide extra cushion and support. The flexible mic that’s attached to the left ear, has an auto flip up to mute feature, it also boasts 48khz studio quality sound, there is also independent game and chat volume controls directly on the right ear. When it comes to sound quality, the A50 X don’t disappoint. The Pro-G Graphene Audio drivers delivers both excellent sound quality and smooth bass. The headset is Dolby Atmos compatible, as well as Windows Spatial Audio, and Sony 3D audio. I connected the headset to my PC, and I downloaded the Dolby Atmos app on Windows. Right away, the program automatically detected my headset with no need to download or install drivers. The app has built-in demos, to be able to get a good sense of what Atmos sounds like, and the results were very impressive…It sounded like audio was coming in all directions around me, not to mention the clarity of the sound. I connected them to my PS5 next, and after a few adjustments in the settings, I was able to test out Sony’s 3D audio. While this sounded very clear and the 3d audio effects worked, I noticed that the Dolby Atmos sounded much better and had a much broader sound field, so I decided to switch the settings to Dolby Atmos.Overall, I am very impressed with the Logitech G A50 X Lightspeed headset. The headset is incredibly comfortable to wear, and it has a good build quality. The sound quality is top notch when it comes to gaming headsets, the virtual surround sound effects are incredible, and the sound is crystal clear. My only complaint would have to be the Base Station and having to connect it with so many cables. Other than that, I would definitely recommend these to any gamer looking for a good quality headset.

The A50X headset delivers stunning audio immersion and clarity, in a design that lets you wear them for long periods of time with no fatigue.Out of the box you can feel the sturdiness of the design of both the headset and base, while noticing how lightweight they’ve kept the headset. The base station is where everything happens, more on that in a minute, and you get the headset and then almost all the cables you’ll need to fully realize the audio. You will need to supply your own extra 2.1 HDMI cable if you want to experience Dolby Atmos. You will need to supply your own extra 2.1 HDMI cable if you want to experience Dolby Atmos. The base station is sturdy and acts as the charger for the headset, as well as controlling most of the tech. It has a deep cradle where the headset sits, and it only orients one way, the microphone needs to be placed on the left side (facing) or it won’t dock. Not really an issue, you get used to it after a few tries. You can easily see the bright display of how much charge you have remaining and which device the headset is trying to communicate with (Xbox, PS5 or PC.) There are a lot of cables, so it’s not the cleanest setup ever, so be prepared for some cable management.***First thing you need to do is connect the unit to a PC and download the latest firmware***Normally that’s a given for other types of tech gear, but it wasn’t something I thought of initially with the A50X. I learned very quickly that something wasn’t going to plan, so updating the firmware was the next step. I was having audio drops, cracks, no 4K passthrough and the Dolby Atmos license wouldn’t validate, etc. Updated to the latest firmware and then set up the A50X to both an Xbox Series X and a PC using the detailed instructions given by Logitech and things were much better. You need to follow the instructions exactly. Seems odd given that these are just a pair of gaming headphones, but there’s a lot of tech going on in here, mainly the base station, and missing one small step will limit them severely. If you want to use the Dolby Atmos, you must use the included USB cable from your device to base station, and then use the included HDMI cable to your device and then your own HDMI cable to your TV/Monitor. I found that always powering on the base station and headset after the device (Xbox/PC) is best but not always required. The Dolby Atmos license is lifetime with the A50X and the handshake will happen once your device recognizes the headset using the USB cable, you have the Dolby Atmos app downloaded and an internet connection. It also allows for 4K 120hz passthrough, and the latest firmware fixes issues with LG monitors (something else I had issue with earlier before I updated) and most of the time that works perfectly also. I do find however that from time to time I need to power cycle the base station, to resolve either Dolby Atmos not recognizing the license, because it appears this handshake has to happen every time, and sometimes passthrough not working as expected. But always, a quick power cycle alleviates the issues, just sort of a hassle to need to do that at all.The sound quality is amazing. Since these use Logitech’s “Lightspeed” technology, connection is immediate with never any lag. Using Bluetooth is great, although you won’t get the Atmos sound, but it’s by far the best sounding Bluetooth gaming headset I’ve used. Now the Bluetooth is received into the base station, not the headset directly, so keep that in mind. These won’t be the best for travel or using too far away from the base station, but the sound is crystal clear, amazing highs and lows and no cracks or pops.Using Dolby Atmos really takes it up a notch. The immersion that the A50X places you in is incredible. You hear things as almost as if you’re in the environment. Whether it’s gaming, watching a movie, etc. the nuances of the sound around you, above and below you, is just fantastic. The A50X have a pretty balanced sound profile, so bass is even and clear, not muddy and highs are clear and precise, not too abrasive. You can also modify the sound profiles using the Logitech Hub app or the Dolby Atmos app on your device. You can tailor to a more bass heavy or clearer communication profile, suited to whatever your situation requires. I prefer more bass, and the A50X never distorts or gets muddy, thanks to the increased driver size. I will say volume seems to max out on me where I’d like to have a little bit more, but not a big deal. The soft foam ear cushions are enjoyable, and I’ve not had ear fatigue one time while wearing them, and I wear eyeglasses. They are sturdy but lightweight and will fit all types of head shapes. The microphone is nice, long, and super flexible to get just the right position, and the mic quality is crystal clear while gaming and could even be used on meetings or video voiceover, it’s really good. And when you have multiple devices connected, the switch button located on the earpiece jumps you to the next device seamlessly with no issue. The A50X headset is the new king of the hill when it comes to Dolby Atmos gaming!

[Rewarded Review] LG OLED HDMI Deep Color Issue
8 March 2024

I have the fix for this… Except it’s going to cost you an extra $97…To make the A50X work with “older” LG tv’s you have to disable HDMI Deep Color in the LG settings. However, in doing this you lose the full bandwidth of HDMI 2.1 and everything that comes with it; 4K 120FPS HDR, ALLM, VRR etc. If this is acceptable for you, you can disable this feature and it will work. If not, here is the solution...In order to keep HDMI Deep Color enabled along with all the capabilities it provides, you have to place an HDMI 2.1 splitter between the A50X base station and your TV. This gets you around whatever issue currently exists between the base station and TV’s direct connection. The link below is to the splitter I used. This gets you around whatever issue currently exists between the base station and TV’s direct connection. The link below is to the splitter I used. It’s not cheap, but cheaper HDMI splitters/switches often lie about their bandwidth capabilities and likely would cause other issues, if they worked at all. I can confirm, I am currently using the below splitter with the Astro A50X base station, and an LG C9 OLED with HDMI Deep Color enabled and have complete HDMI 2.1 bandwidth/functionality with my PlayStation 5.Once you have the splitter, you will connect your source (PS5/XBOX etc.) to the corresponding input on the A50X base station, then the base station’s Output to the Input of the splitter, and then one of the Outputs of the splitter to your TV. **Be sure to use certified HDMI 2.1 cables for all connections. As a bonus, this splitter also has the ability to split audio out over optical, so you could also choose to connect your source to an AV system/sound bar with an optical input.Admittedly this is not the ideal solution, but until LG and/or Logitech develop a fix, this is a much cheaper alternative to getting a new TV. The audio and microphone quality and the base station HDMI switching capabilities of the A50 X, for me, are exceptional enough to warrant the cost of this work around while waiting on a firmware update to natively correct the issue. Hope this helps!HDMI 2.1 Splitter:https://amzn.to/3P6IucM

Since the headset is the same dimensions as the previous A 50’s, my A50 mod kit ear cushions work on these as well, which I highly recommend you adding, because they provide a tighter seal for your audio. Logitech have implemented their LIGHTSPEED technology into the headset for low latency wireless connection. The sound quality is nothing short of outstanding. The A50 X have added Logitech’s PRO-G GRAPHENE audio drivers, which offers groundbreaking clarity and response for precise audio separation, location, and timing accuracy. This allows for immersive audio that makes every gunshot, explosion, and footstep come to life. The 3D spatial audio technology is particularly impressive, allowing me to pinpoint the exact location of my enemies in games like Call of Duty: Warzone, Apex, and Fortnite. The headset also comes with Dolby Atmos, so if you are watching videos or movies that offer DOLBY Atmos, you will get the full 360 degree sound immersion experience. The Microphone has also received a much needed upgrade, with the addition of Logitech's Broadcast-quality mic that has 48 kHz full-bandwidth LIGHTSPEED mic uplink allowing new levels in wireless boom mic quality. The standout feature of this headset is the connectivity between consoles and PC. An issue that has plagued the video game community for some time now, is for those who have all the major consoles along with a PC, that are having to buy at least one headset for your PS5 and then a headset for your Xbox and PC. Logitech has finally fixed this problem with their updated Base Station with the introduction of PLAYSYNC. With a push of a button on the headset you can switch between your Xbox, PC and PS5. The base station now comes with 3x HDMI 2.1 ports: 2x HDMI 2.1 ports for your consoles, 1x USB-C to USB for your PC and 1x HDMI 2.1 out port that connects to your HDMI eARCH port on your TV. Setup is pretty straight forward in that you connect the Xbox’s 1x USB-C to the USB on your Xbox along with the HDMI from your Xbox to the Base Station and the same for the PS5. Then you connect the USB-C power adapter to an outlet and then the HDMI out port on the Base Station to the dedicated HDMI eARCH 120hz port on your TV. If this is a tad confusing for you Logitech provides detailed steps in the instructions. Logitech also has a step by step walk through video on their Youtube channel showing you what to do, which I highly recommend watching. That being said, depending on what brand TV you have, you might have to change some HDMI settings to allow the eArc passthrough to work and you might have to change some settings on your consoles to get everything to work correctly.Note: Unfortunately, Logitech does not include an additional HDMI 2.1 cable, so you will have to get another one for the HDMI out port for the base to the TV, and make sure it's a legit HDMI 2.1 cable, so you will get the 120Hz capabilities out of your consoles. A regular HDMI cable will work but you will be losing out on the performance.Another new feature to the A50 X, is the addition of Bluetooth, where you can now connect your phone to your headset, allowing you to playback audio and take calls through the headset. This has been a great addition in that I can now listen to podcasts through my headset while playing games and control the podcast audio from my phone and the game audio straight from the headset. My only complaint about this is that the Bluetooth chip is located in the base station, so you can’t go too far from that base station before you start having connection issues and it’s only about 20ft. So using the headset just with bluetooth is not an option and I wish they would have put the chip in the headset like they did with their A30’s, so if i'm on the go, I could just bring my headset and leave the dock behind.Another great addition with Logitech purchasing Astro, is that the A 50 X are now customizable in the Logitech Ghub software. In the Ghub software you can change your EQ and sound levels to your personal preferences. This is a great addition because you can now browse the community presets and see other peoples audio settings for specific games and have those settings auto default when you launch a game. There is also a smart phone app that you can download in the app store called “ Logitech G” where you can customize the audio settings for your PS5 and Xbox in the app via bluetooth.Overall, the Logitech - Astro A50 X LIGHTSPEED Wireless with PLAYSYNC Gaming Headset + Base Station is the must have headset for those who have more than one console and want a seamless transition between consoles and PC. Along with great audio, a clear microphone, great software and customization, you can not go wrong with picking up what I consider the best overall wireless gaming headset on the market now.

This base station serves as an AVR system, allowing seamless switching between preferred gaming consoles by simply pressing the Play/Sync button on the headset. The setup process is straightforward, though customization depends on the individual gaming arrangement. In my case, with two distinct setups one has an Xbox Series X and Alienware R15 positioned at a distance from each other, I only connected my Xbox, making the Play/Sync function unnecessary. On the second setup, I have my PS5 and Nintendo OLED, the Play/Sync feature becomes essential as both PS5 and Nintendo are connected. The transition between consoles is smooth, with no loss in the 120Hz refresh rate, thanks to the base's ability to pass through 120Hz 4K. The base station also serves as a charging dock, offering a comprehensive setup and hassle-free charging through cable, while functioning as a replacement for an AVR system by delivering audio/video simultaneously. Additionally, the base features an illuminated label of the switched device beside the charging indicator, enhancing the user-friendly experience. The headset is also Bluetooth-enabled, and the Astro app is available on both Android and IOS devices for adjusting a few limited settings unlike on PC or Xbox. The inclusion of Dolby Atmos, coupled with a long-term license, adds to the headset's appeal. All controls are conveniently positioned on the right side of the headset, with the earcup managing the balance between game sound and voice. In terms of performance, having used it extensively across various games, I can confidently say that this headset is exceptional. The sound quality is remarkable, capturing clear footsteps and effects. During gameplay in Assassin's Creed Mirage, the immersive experience was noticeable as I could identify every single movement with zero latency, and the sound synchronized seamlessly. Moreover, it is very comfortable, and wearing my prescription glasses poses no issue as they fit well. The flexible mic allows for easy adjustment in any direction to achieve an optimal distance to the mouth and flipping it up mutes the voice effortlessly. Great gaming headset with superior sound quality and stable connection.

[Rewarded Review] The best gaming headset on the market

This is what I’d call the apex of gaming headsets. It has all the features you might want with no extra fluff or juvenile lights and color schemes. I’ve owned dozens of gaming headsets over many years and I have always respected the quality of Astro but found in the past that they were lacking somewhat in comfort and certain features like Bluetooth. The last Astro I had was the second generation A50, and they have come a long way since then. This newest version takes everything I ever liked about the old 2nd gen and adds significant improvements across the board. I always appreciated the magnetic charging dock, flip to mute boom mic, easy to use mix amp controls and overall sound quality, and thankfully they have not messed with any of those good things. They have however added Bluetooth support for simultaneous sound from your phone while playing, enhanced the comfort level of the head band and ear cups, tweaked the design of the charging dock making it easier to get a solid connection for the headset to charge properly, and most importantly and impressively made it so you can pass through HDMI 2.1 for full 4k 120hz from both the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. This pass through gets the best sound quality possible and I have noticed zero lag or difference in video quality out of my hardware since adding the new A50 to my setup. On both sides of the equation you get full Dolby atmos support, and neither my PS5 or Series X report any changes to their video output quality since hooking things up. The only drawback to this pass through is that there is no HDMI cable included with this headset so you need to provide your own ultra high speed cable to output from the dock to the TV. If you intend to use this for both consoles at once you’ll also need a second USB C cable as there is only one of those in the box. With those two extra cables you can get two consoles hooked up and working with no fuss. I have an LG B2 OLED TV in conjunction with this headset and my consoles and everything works flawlessly. Chat quality is excellent, the atmos sound is phenomenal, I have worn them for many hours at a time with no fatigue or discomfort, they have massive battery life for marathon sessions, and even have a USB-C port on the headset for charging independently of the dock if needed. I’ve been able to keep gaming while taking phone calls and can hear the call crisp and clear with no distortion and am told I sound great on the other end. Other than wishing that it included an appropriate HDMI cable and second USB cable I cannot think of anything else I would ask for from this headset. It is extremely impressive and wonderful to be able to use for a multi platform household with such ease. This is one of the very best gaming headsets available today, and I think it is worth every penny.
