Works extremely well and with very high reliability. Requires a robust connection to the wireless internet, so you may need to upgrade your wireless in the home/business to a high end MeSH network like those managed by ORBI. Once I spent the $4k on an Orbital MeSH network upgrade, the item worked perfectly. I would recommend this. A $200 small screen from Amazon is needed to run it, but once it is up and running, it works extremely well and you can turn the screen off and put it away. Few glitches to get it working properly, but tech support helped me figure out that my wireless internet was not robust enough on the larger property. So unless you don’t mind them operating after dark it’s fine, the system is great. But, if it does matter to you though when these lights operate and when they don’t, these features become useless even though you paid for them.

Good, but response time lags.

The instructions to set up were lacking. I already had 4 Lorex wi-fi cameras operating on my network. I had to start digging through the main menu system to enter passwords etc. to get the recorder to recognize the cameras. Eventually had to reboot every camera. When the camera notifications go off , there is a lag in time. When I look at my monitor, the event has already passed, and I have to pull up the event in the event history. As an example, when my driveway camera alerts to motion and I look at the monitor, my wife has already driven her car into the garage. Also, for some reason it is not recording events from my doorbell camera in the event history. If I use my phone app to view my doorbell camera, the event history is there, but not on the recorder. Great Products, Difficult To Set Up
14 November 2023

I have two Lorex NVR's. One at my offices, one at my home. These Halo series cameras produce sharp images in both good light and low-light or no-light. The problem I encounter is that you need patience to set up and connect the cameras to the NVR's. Some of the settings are not particularly intuitive. While it's nice to have control over each individual camera, it takes time to take advantage of all the features. These are not point-and-shoot systems like a Ring or Google setup. The mobile app works well but the desktop app for viewing is, again, cumbersome and difficult to use. Highly recommend the cameras but just be aware that you need to set aside several hours to program everything.

Great while it lasts, but will not last long

I had great success with this NVR for the first year, I really appreciated the ease of connecting both Wi-Fi cameras and wired. They ran great and worked perfectly. However, 2 weeks after the warranty expired, the power port built into the motherboard fried (no surges, or lightning strikes, just normal use). Since there is no built-in power supply, this renders the entire unit useless. If I would have purchased the N864, then you can easily swap out the power supply if this were to happen.I would caution anyone looking at this style of NVR to avoid if you want the system to last multiple years. Otherwise, expect to have to replace after the first year. I may have gotten a defective product, but it definitely opened my eyes on how cheaply made this unit is, and that is why the cost is so affordable. If you take anything away from this review, just realize that if you buy this unit and one thing goes wrong, it will need replaced. One other thing I would like to point out, I was only 2 weeks outside of the warranty window and Lorex told me they would not accommodate. Working at places with warranties and call centers, I know there is typically wiggle room to keep the customer happy, so they keep buying more product. This mentality doesn't exist with this brand. I would keep this customer service in mind if you're on the fence about going with Lorex or another brand. Had I known they would treat their customer base like this when I purchased, I likely would have gone with another brand.

I've been using Lorex NVR's for 15 years

I feel this feature will give me the very best video recordings night or day. In the past if I set the video settings for one mode and the ambient light changes to the other mode then the video recordings suffer either too bright or too dark. Section 9.5 in the manual states you can save video settings, presets, that can be set for day, night, and normal. These presets have to be changed by logging in to the dvr and manually setting the preset for each camera (I have 8). I'd rather change them on my smart device but that is not an option for my newest NVR. My newest NVR and app, only alow me to adjust the video levels only on the NVR and not on my smart device, this is a step backwards in my opinion. Let me put it simply, I want to set up my NVR with the video settings for day and night then leave it alone and enjoy my Lorex equipment with my smart device with no worries or disappointment over future recordings.

Lorex is NOT recommended
26 December 2023

My original NVR died. I spent a couple thousand dollars on my original setup with cameras and the nvr for my home. After the nvr failed, I called in for help. I purchased everything directly from Lorex so they had all of my purchase history. They instructed me after reviewing all my information that this was a compatible NVR. Once I installed the new NVR, nothing worked. When I called in they had me on the phone for an hour before they were able to tell me that my Lorex cameras are not compatible. Then they tried selling me another NVR at double the price. I asked for a discount and was offered 10% off. I shipped back the incompatible NVR and waited for my refund. I’m assuming their expectation is that I call back again to try and get what was offered but at nearly $700 for the new NVR I’m wondering if there’s a better company and I just scrap what I have and start over with a more reliable company. Seems like maybe the idea is to keep customers on the hamster wheel of reinvesting often vs offering reliable products.

NVR with great potential

THE NVR has great potential. I love that I can use both wired and wireless AP's and it's relatively easily paired with devices on the network. Works relatively flawlessly in that regard. Easy to use albeit a bit painful in the processes. The application and software is a bit underwhelming. I would like to see a few changes taken into consideration For example: 1. Software perspective when re-organizing the wired and wireless devices to different camera channels you shouldn't have to disassociate the equipment and re-link the equipment to change the order of the Camera Outputs. It's a very tedious and unnecessary step in my opinion. Additionally, I would also like it to have customizable viewing windows. Finally - The last item that I think would be great is if the NVR had the ability to link a mouse and keyboard. It has (1) USB-A slot to utilize a wireless mouse thankfully, but if you use a USB extender for mouse and keyboard usage it doesn't recognize the keyboard. It would be beneficial in applications to save time when having lengthy passwords to have the ability to utilize a mouse and keyboard for efficiency. If it had these (3) items it would meet my needs perfectly.

No spider webs
17 March 2024

This camera works very well. The person/vehicle detection is very accurate. Phone notifications can be severely delayed. Most of the time I receive notifications within a minute. A couple of times a week my notification may be delayed for 15-25 minutes. When there is heavy fog, mist or snow, I receive a false vehicle detection. Not an issue since it may happen only once in several hours during these conditions. I've had cameras of all types for 20 years. This is the first camera with IR illumination that has NOT attracted spiders. Unbelievable. Must be the wavelength is different than others. They should promote this as a feature. They would sell millions!

I haven't had any issues with this NVR. It was fairly simple to setup and does the job but there are several features it lacks that would make it better. It is kind of noisy. It's the fan I imagine. It uses a SATA hard drive, an SSD would be better. Other than logging in locally, there is a web interface that you can log into remotely to configure from a phone but it's not a mobile app so the web interface is oversized for the phone.
