Had it for about a year and a half. The sonar image quality is good and the maps are detailed enough to find reefs etc. Not the most intuitive thing to use but is fine.Problem is it's not waterproof, I had it on the kayak so it was exposed to splashes etc but was never submerged and water got in and corroded the board. So I wouldn't recommend it for use where it can get wet.

I spoke to guy at BCF and asked for a fish finder/depth sounder that had maps on it that show me where it's shallow, deep etc. I was told that any that say "combo" were what I needed. I pointed to this one and he said yes that's got it. I bought it, installed it and it doesn't. You can put a waypoint in etc but it will just be blue for water, no depths, showing where shallow etc. Useless. So I went and spoke to them again, this time different person who obviously knew what they were talking about and said " no they don't have maps, but you can buy the Navionics card, which is over $400. I could have bought the model below for over 150 less and had the same thing.

Having had the previous model, which was replaced due to theft, I didn't research this purchase as I should have and simply replaced the old model with the latest version. BIG MISTAKE.I anticipated a unit equal or better to the previous Hook 5. Once I unpacked the new HOOK Reveal I found that the power and transucer leads were the push in type associated with cheaper sounders, not the screw on type for the previous unit. Also I found the reduced screen height made all overlay information more difficult to read and I personally found the definition to be less than the previoous unit I had.The freatures on the HOOK 5 Reveal are excellent, but unfortunately for me when using split screen modes too difficult to see properly. This as I have discovered may not be the4 case.

Freak Sports were very helpful in providing the information i was after.Told me all about the relevant accessories i was considering . it was good to talk to someone that knew what they were talking about. Definitely a great product at a great price.Thanks.
It performs great, the reason for the low rating is its not easy to use. The product is great quality and resolution is amazing but using it is quiet difficult to operate with minimal direction. No one these days reads operational manuals that are over a cm thick. The product is also slow in performace.
I bought the Split Shot 5 GPS, no maps, just a GPS plotter, don't buy it, it will cost an extra $400 to load maps..... buy the Split Shot 5 Combo that had maps already loaded and thank me later. Great for following past courses on familiar routes.
Does what its supposed to. Pretty easy to instal, only issue was getting the scanner to work, had to google other reviews to find how to "Un stop" it. the menu process wasn't in the supplied literature that I could see anyway.Than all was good.
I purchased the Lowrance Hook Reveal 5 to replace my old Lowrance Elite 5 that had served me well for 10 years. I only gave the Hook Reveal 5 3 stars because the screen is very difficult to read esp. in sunlight. The overlay detail is too small to read and should be twice the font at least on each setting (Small or Normal). Also the wires connecting to the unit are difficult to connect and disconnect. The product is easy to use and navigate and installation was easy (it fitted onto the existing drill holes from the Elite 5). Another annoyance is the unit does not swivel side to side ( like the Elite 5 did).I wonder if the manufacturers tested this unit out in the sunlight. (I gave the Elite 5, five stars) but this new model falls short of full marks. (I gave the Elite 5, five stars) but this new model falls short of full marks. I tested it in my favorite fishing grounds and it performed well (aside from the above comments). The graphics and performance of the electronics is much sharper than my old Elite 5 sounder/GPS and there are a lot of extra details available.
I purchased this unit as I was told that the map system was good for major river systems. After using the unit on the Hawksberry River I feel the maps are a total disappointment. If you are looking for anything more than the basic river outline then get something else. I upgraded to this unit from the Hook 5x which has turned out to be a total waste of money.
This is a major step down from the Elite 4 HDI. The plugs have been cheaped out and are now just push fit.Instead of twist and lock. Why is this important? Because the fittings are push fit and have a an O ring. This means that your creating a pressured space when pushing in, and because it's not a lock, it just pops back out.Very poor effort Lowrance
