I bought this on Aug 9th and finally had a chance to use it this last week. The screen and features were great, but the transducer is the problem. My tripleshot transducer broke in half during normal use the second time I used it on the lake. It was a choppy wavy day on the lake, which I assume contributed to it snapping.I contacted Lowrance and they refuse to warranty it. They told me that I was welcome to buy a new transducer, but they would not send me a replacement. I can't recommend a product if the company won't stand behind it.

False information in description. I purchased this unit so I can use the maps and pre plan my trips when I go fishing. It states that it is compatible with C-Map and navionics. That’s not the case according to an associate of lowrance. The SD card slot is only for memory when using genius live. You can’t upload any kind of maps. Very disappointing. Complete waste of time. Not what I wanted .

I bought this and it worked great for the first few months, then the sonar started to malfunction by showing scattered data and sometimes would lose the bottom signal. Completed all troubleshooting steps provided on Lowrance web site. Then called Lowrance Tech Support. Tech support person was not knowledgeable on my equipment based on them asking me to check features that my unit does not have. Ultimately did a soft reset and told me to put it on the water and check it again. It still didn't work right. Called tech support again which resulted in them deciding to send me a warranty replacement head unit. Multiple hours on the phone to and 2+ weeks later, I still don't have the replacement unit.I have no issue with Cabelas. My issues are mainly with Lowrance Tech ... MoreI bought this and it worked great for the first few months, then the sonar started to malfunction by showing scattered data and sometimes would lose the bottom signal. I have had depth finders in the past but nothing this high tech! I think it is great for beginners. Easy to use and navigate. Also the "Auto" options, where the finder will set itself up is great until you can learn what manual settings you prefer. Also the preloaded maps are worth it!!! First trip out was eveing and into the night. Going up the resevoir and into the river I had the finder mark our trail. Heading back to the ramp in the early morning, the tempature had dropped and the fog on the water was EXTREMELY thick. At times visibility was 10ft or less. I was able to follow the trail we had saved going in, to get back out!!! Otherwise we would have had to wait for the fog to lift.Well worth the price in my opinion!! I know there are fancier ones out there ... MoreI have had depth finders in the past but nothing this high tech! I think it is great for beginners. Easy to use and navigate. I was unsure about purchasing an entry-model Lowrance unit, as I've been very happy with my high-quality Garmin and Humminbird products. After a Garmin unit died due to old age, rather than repairing it I spent a similar amount on the 9 inch version of this sounder. I'm happy I did, as the base model of this unit in a 9 inch screen, shows me far more detail than my previous premium Garmin 7 inch unit. Technology has dramatically improved and with the 9 inch screen, I'd struggle to justify spending more on a sounder for my yak. The larger screen makes split screen views truly useful, whereas on the smaller screen you never really got a good view of anything when the screen was divided. My first expedition was in horrible weather, so the yak was smashing through heavy ... MoreI was unsure about purchasing an entry-model Lowrance unit, as I've been very happy with my high-quality Garmin and Humminbird products. I have to say I'm impressed, despite my initial reservations.
I love Lowrance products. However, this product has a severe limitation that makes it nearly useless for me. We all know that one of the great benefits of Lowrance products is the ability to create and share C-Map Genesis Live contour maps. This unit does that. No problem. I have spoken to three different Lowrance representatives and, apparently, what this unit cannot do is load Genesis Live data created by other Lowrance users. What that means for anyone who buys this unit is the following: You cannot go to the C-Map Genesis website and download Genesis Live maps that other users have created and load them into the unit. This seems completely crazy to me as the unit is fully capable of creating and reading (via the Genesis Live overlay option) the EXACT SAME FILE TYPES when creating a Genesis Live contour map. So, in short, the unit can create and read Genesis Live map data, but cannot load and read the exact same type of data created by other users. What does the mean for you? Let's assume you want to go to a water near you that has already been mapped on Genesis Live. Although your unit can create such maps and can read the data it created, it cannot load maps created by other users into the unit. Infinitely stupid. This seems to me to be an extremely short sighted exclusion of functionality on the part of Lowrance. Let me reiterate; the unit can create and read the same files require to create Genesis Live data but it cannot read/load the exact same file types created by other users. This means that you, the user, cannot load Genesis Live data into the unit for viewing when on waters that have been mapped by other users. This, for lack of a better word, is stupid. If all that you want to do is mark fish with the sonar/downscan/sidescan, then this unit is for you. If, however, you want to use the unit for Genesis Live overlays created by other users, which the unit can seemingly do, you are out of luck. If you want this functionality do not buy the X series Hook Reveal.
I've only been out with the Hook Reveal 7 twice now, first time the sounder wasn't working - the GPS/ maps part was OK but transducer wasn't working - advice in BCF shop suggested to default the unit. I did this, and all was OK next time out. I've only had one sounder before this one coincidentally a Lowrance (Elite 4), which was already fitted to previous boat. When I was looking at sounders for new boat, the display BCF had in store was excellent. I didn't find anywhere else that had such a good display of sounders. When I was in store there was a staff member there who knew sounders very well. My reason for buying this sounder was first my new boat was already fitted with Lowrance transducer, plus I was happy with the other Lowrance I had, but that one didn't ... MoreI've only been out with the Hook Reveal 7 twice now, first time the sounder wasn't working - the GPS/ maps part was OK but transducer wasn't working - advice in BCF shop suggested to default the unit. When I was in store there was a staff member there who knew sounders very well. My reason for buying this sounder was first my new boat was already fitted with Lowrance transducer, plus I was happy with the other Lowrance I had, but that one didn't have maps. Originally the boat dealer was going to provide a 5" Lowrance head unit, but when I mentioned I was interested to have maps, they suggested the bigger screen of 7" unit would be much better visually. This made perfect sense, so I was happy to go with the bigger unit. The dealer didn't have a 7" unit readily available and suggested I look at BCF to see the differences in screen sizes. I bought the 7" Combo unit from BCF, which the boat dealer fitted. Not being a fishing guy I can't advise on how good this unit is for fish finding, I can say the maps looks good, the 7" screen is good and fine in direct sun light. One thing I recall my Elite 4 did was allow bigger character size on screen for depth etc, where as this one with bigger screen surprisingly the character size choice I think is small and medium only, whereas the Elite had large font size as well. On price I did compare elsewhere but didn't find cheaper elsewhere. I'm happy to recommend this this unit, and also buying it from BCF, and also suggest checking out BCF for the excellent Sounder display they have (I bought from Caloundra store).
The X model does not come with maps, which is stated, however…it has ZERO ability to add downloaded maps. They should make that feature available. At least you can “create” you own depth maps with a 2-32gb micro sd card. Also, the transducer cable is 20 feet. I have a 20 foot Grady White and the cable was about 3 feet too short. After going up the transom, down into the wiring tube, then up the helm console…I was about 3-4 feet short. Had to cut a brand new cable and splice a section in. WHY?? WHY can’t they make it 30 feet?? You can always coil up the extra, but if it’s too short, it’s a pain to lengthen it.
I needed 2 new transducers for my hds7 touch which is nearly $600, so decided to get this as a completeunit for another $350. In comparison it's night and day.The plugs barely connect with any real confidence, the power supply plug has to be pushed in hard, or it won't connect well the pins are very short. If you knock the rear cable you will lose power to the unit, and a big downside is the buttons are not backlit. You CANNOT use this sounder for navigation at night, and that makes it beginner's unit only. All the good reviews miss this extremely important short fall.Being able to operate a chartplotter and sounder in the dark, is an absolute must.
Despite all the confusing terminology and screenshots. This doesnt have any charts!!! JUST GPS. which if you think about it is a waste of time in the ocean. I need the safety of knowing the depth of the waters around me. But this device doesnt have it. It should be a lot clearer on the box... THIS DEVICE DOESNT HAVE CHARTS!! Plus when you turn it on and try and scan the QR code it doesnt work!!! Ive just brought something totally worthless for me and just paid to have it installed... totally gutted and feel like an idiot!!!! There goes $1100 down the drain!!
