Real life Italian-ish person here! I have tried quite a few of Loyd Grossman’s sauces - particularly their pasta sauces - and have been pretty surprised a decent amount of times, so far, by how well they manage to (try to) replicate what are the more common Italian sauces. This sauce, for example, was very fragrant (It got a little "Wow." out of me once I opened it, honestly.) and - for the most part - I found it to be fairly excellent for a store bought sauce. It's chunky, full of pieces of sweet tomatoes as well as various grilled vegetables like peppers, zucchini, and aubergine, which add onto the already existing overall smokiness of the sauce. A good sauce with a decent chilli kick!

I?m reviewing this product because I got a free sample from Ocado. We tried this sauce last night. It?s quite a thin sauce, and we paired it with a fusilli pasta, which was a good match. A spaghetti or linguine wouldn?t work well with this sauce. It was nice to see really pieces of tomato in the sauce, and the strength of the chilli was stronger than I?d anticipated- but we did enjoy. The portion guide of 4-5 for this jar is accurate.

A good tasty sauce

I am reviewing this product because I was given a free sample from Ocado. I normally make my own chilli sauce but sometimes when you haven't got much time it is convenient to have a jar in the cupboard. It is a thick sauce but it needed a further helping of chilli as I like it hot. I would recommend this product especially during times when you need to prepare a meal quickly.

Authentic Puttanesca flavour

I used to make Puttanesca sauce from scratch but, being short of time one week, thought I'd give this sauce a try as it was on offer. It really does have the authentic Puttanesca flavour so I have continued to buy it when on offer and rarely make my own now. We don't have it every week so the sugar content is acceptable. I can recommend it as a very pleasant change from the usual pasta sauces.

Buying for over 20 years!

I have been buying this sauce for over 20 years... it is the only ready made sauce that I use! A go-to meal is chopped up bacon fried off... add the sauce, fill empty jar with water and shake - a lot, add to pan. Let it simmer for as long as needed... I eat this with fusilli. The water doesn't really lessen the flavour and makes it a soup-y style meal. I also do the same with prawns instead of bacon. Sometimes I add mozzarella to the bacon version. It is a relatively cheap but tasty meal! Although, I only tend to buy when on an offer... but, I have noticed that it is now listed as £1.25 as a normal price!

Convenient and tasty but not spicy

I got this for free as a star reviewer. I dont normally use jarred sauces as a can of tomatoes and a few herbs and spices are fine in my book. I had some with fresh ravioli and it was a nice convenient sauce to make a meal in under ten mins. I used the rest with a tin of tomatoes in a chilli. Its tasty and easy, cant complain. I prefer more of a chilli kick though.

Good sauce

I am reviewing this for Ocado as I got a sample. I normally don't buy pasta sauce in a jar, I like frying onions then add tinned tomatoes and it tastes pretty good. However, lately I have noticed that these tinned tomatoes sometimes taste too sweet. Ocado's tinned tomato for instance tasted very sweet and it did not work well, maybe it was that batch. So I was very happy that I had a jar of pasta sauce that does not require frying onions and also which I can be sure that it will not have the overly sweet taste. I would stock this so I can just add a few bacon bits or ham to cook up spaghetti very quickly for dinner on a busy day!

Great taste, lots of flavour.

Really impressed with this. Lots of olives, gentle heat from the chilli and a real depth of flavour. I'm not the biggest fan of anchovies normally but still really enjoyed this sauce. Think they just added to the depth of flavour rather than overpowering it.

Just goes to show

This sauce is excellent. It just goes to show processed food doesn't need to be choc full of questionable chemicals and sugar. The sweetness of the tomatoes and onions more than do the job in this lovely sauce. From looking at the ingredients in some of their other products as well as this one Its nice to see that Lloyd Grossman sauces are still being made this way. A godsend for people who are worried about additives but need a shortcut sometimes

OK for a quick dinner.

Im reviewing this product because I got a free sample from Ocado. This is not something we'd normally buy but with both children enjoying pasta with a tomato based sauce it made sense to give it a go. Unfortunately they weren't overally fussed, and poked around at their dinner rather than enjoying it. When my partner and I tried some we both agreed that it's quite an overpowering sauce, particularly the with the basil. OK for a very quick rushed dinner but not something I think we'd purchase in the future.
