Positives: OK quality photos outdoors and in good light and it has a great telephoto.Negatives: As other reviewers mentioned the camera does not come with a charger or cable for downloading the photos so factor in this significant extra cost - and it's heavy, so you'll need a case. All this adds an extra £50 - £60. The big problem is that indoors and in overcast conditions the photos are far worse than I get with my 15 year old Nikon. The only way to deal with the poor sensitivity is to take photos at much reduced ISO and have the camera on a tripod and that's not always possible. My advice is to read reviews available online from professional photographers and photography magazines and factor in the extra cost of the charger, battery, case etc.

Having owned a Panasonic Lumix bridge camera some years ago I was excited to learn a new one was being marketed. The Basic Operating Instructions are easy to follow and I soon found the additional options on the new camera easy to use.It is easy to handle, easy to change the battery and remove the memory card.I love the fact there is a viewfinder, especially useful when it's a sunny day.The only disappointment is there was no battery charger, so I could not use the the camera immediately.

Bought as a present for my husband and he loves it. He's always had compact point and shoot cameras and this camera is a step up for him.,You can easily take snaps with it on automatic or with a bit more thought, really good photos. With just the one lens it's possible to take macro photos of insects, flowers etc, or great panoramic landscape shoots. Brilliant for low light as well. Got some good shots of the hunters moon the other night. One annoyance!! No charging cable included and for the price I think Panasonic should include one.
Got this as a birthday present as I wanted a step up from current Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ80 which had for a while (also purchased from JL). Pictures are great, better than from the previous compact but still light weight so fairly easy to carry around.Slightly more complicated to use unless you just use the iA or iA+ modes, as you can use it more like a DSLR.However, there is a great tutorial online by graham houghton on the previous version of the fz82/fz80.Glad it doesn't have Wi-Fi to over complicate things more.Always found Panasonic cameras to give good pictures.
Lens/sensor not as good quality as my other (older, TZ60) Lumix cameras, no real choice of long shutter speeds in manual mode (longest 1/4 sec), night starry sky scene mode sets ISO to 100 and you can't change it, which is stupid. The 20mm wide angle would be useful for astrophotography, were it not for the built-in limitations described above. It's light to carry, and I can use filters that don't fit on the TZ60. It's OK for general use I suppose. Also disappointed that the lack of built-in level horizon marker missing - it's there on the TZ60.I also do macro insect photography, but the lens isn't up to the required standard. Thinking of selling it, to be honest.
Upgraded my FZ82 only to find, to my horror, that it no longer has WiFi connectivity... sadly I traded my old one for the new and am now stuck! Otherwise, it's a decent bit of kit at the price-point, particularly if you use the telephoto zoom a bit. If however you want to use it for wildlife photography, without the remote option, you are likely to miss the shot since the stabilisation isn't great at max zoom and really requires a tripod and a shutter release delay. By which time your subject may well have disappeared. It's a major issue and one which Panasonic have foolishly underestimated the importance of to wildlife photographers
I bought this as I love taking photos and wanted a bit more than a compact camera, but my arthritic hands can't manage a DSLR with the lens changes etc. I also don't have the motivation or time to learn enough about photography to justify buying a DSLR! I've got some beautiful shots with just the auto settings, but the camera has so much more scope so I can learn about the manual settings and play with them. It's not going to give you the perfect shot for all situations because that's where a DSLR comes in, but my goodness, it's been perfect for an all rounder. It's done some really lovely macro shots, birds, pets, flowers, landscapes and some decent zoom ones. The zoom is not going to compare to a big lens on a DSLR but it does a great job with the lens it has. I haven't tried night photography yet but the camera is giving all indications that it will be ok for them once I learn the best settings. I have to say, it's a superb bridge camera and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys taking photos and wants to step up from a phone or compact camera. I really do love it and it's not heavy so good for weaker hands. If you're in the market for a bridge camera, this is a very, very good choice.
This camera is not as it is described. It does not come with a battery charger or cable to connect to a computer so we could not use it for a couple of days until we ordered them separately. Factor in this extra cost (£40 case + £16 charger + £8 cable to download the images). It was obvious from the get go that the camera only takes decent photographs in very good light. Every indoor shot we took was dull and grainy. The handheld night time feature is genuinely appalling. We tested the camera in different light levels and were not at all happy with the quality - I checked to see if I was doing something wrong and found lots of reviews in specialist camera magazines pointing to the sensor being far too small. My previous camera was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ330, I was so happy with it (as I was with other Panasonic Lumix cameras), photos were sharp, I never used a tripod, always hand-held. Unfortunately the lens would occasionally get stuck and I would have to turn the camera off, take out and reinsert the battery before being able to use it again - not convenient when trying to take photos of wildlife, particularly birds. When I saw there was the new DC-FZ82D with 20-1200mm lens I decided to treat myself. Most reviews I read prior to purchasing were 4 and 5 stars - unfortunately I didn't look at the dates of the reviews - most were several years ago for the previous DC-FZ82. Why keep reviews for the old version when people want reviews solely for the new camera?I ... MoreMy previous camera was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ330, I was so happy with it (as I was with other Panasonic Lumix cameras), photos were sharp, I never used a tripod, always hand-held. Most reviews I read prior to purchasing were 4 and 5 stars - unfortunately I didn't look at the dates of the reviews - most were several years ago for the previous DC-FZ82. Why keep reviews for the old version when people want reviews solely for the new camera?I purchased DC-FZ82D on 3rd October 2024. I read the basic operating instructions, downloaded the user manual (definitely not user-friendly unless it's me!). I went to a nature reserve and took many photos. I realised immediately the quality of zoomed-in photos was poor, once downloaded this was confirmed. I changed a few settings, took photos, same poor quality. I went back to where I purchased the camera, they took photos, changed some settings, took more and agreed the image quality was not great. I was told to turn off the Digital zoom, and do not go beyond 1200mm. Photos are now slightly better but I am still so disappointed as I cannot take a decent sharp photo. I can be taking a photo of something only a few yards away and the stabiliser does not seem to work.Is it me or the camera? The only good thing I can say at the moment is the Macro is excellent.
