This product designed to prevent or slow down macula degenerationin in all honesty is not easy to review, as the true results will not be known for several years. As my consultant at York Hospital said, who advised me to take Macushield. "If you can afford to take them then it is worth doing. They will cause you no harm and may prove to be a God send".

After reading info from macular society org/diet and exercise : Lutein More recently, interest has grown in another antioxidant, lutein, and a similar substance, zeaxanthin. Both of these are yellow plant pigments, which give certain fruit and vegetables their colour, for example the yellow and orange in peppers, sweetcorn and saffron. Surprisingly perhaps, green leafy vegetables such as kale, spinach and broccoli also have high levels of lutein (you can actually see the lutein as the vegetables age and turn yellow). The human body cannot make lutein or zeaxanthin; they have to be eaten. Several studies suggest that consuming at least 10mg of lutein per day has the most beneficial effects on macular pigment levels.

Definitely helped my dry eyes

I wear daily contact lenses. I suffer with dry eyes due to under active thyroid. My dry eyes mean I have to use a lot of eye drops and my vision was noticeably more blurry lately when wearing my bifocals (+1.25 distance, +3.00 reading) so I was happy to try these. My blurred vision has improved since taking these so I can see how the protective shield helps with eye sight in the long term. My eye prescription hasn’t changed in 10 years and to be fair, isn’t that bad. I’m still undecided about whether or not I’d take in the long term because of affordability but then I guess it’s good value for protecting your eyesight. Easy to swallow and I didn’t find a problem with taste.

Feeling optimistic

I have been using Macushield for a few years and a different lutein supplement prior to that. Age-related Macular degeneration runs in my family. Yet at my last eye test my opthalmologist told me that my maculars in both eyes were in better condition than average. I can't prove that is because of the Macushield, but it might be.

Highly Recommended despite cost

My mother was diagnosed with Macular degeneration at least 10 years ago. She was recommended by her consultant to take MacuShield capsules daily as well as having eye injections at varying intervals to attempt to maintain her sight.At the age of 94 she has just been told that her problem has stablized and she no longer needs her regular injections. She still has her daily Macushield which we are sure has helped her reach the stage she is at now.

We have been using MacuShield for several years after seeing a TV program "Trust Me Im a Doctor" with Michael Mosley in 2017. He investigated whether supplements had any valid research for their efficacy. Most supplements were found to be a waste of money but the research showed that Zeaxanthin, Meso-Zeaxanthin & Lutein together could help eye sight. It did not recommend MacuShield but it was about the only product that has all 3 ingredients. We have been importing it ever since & believe that it is helping us. Its not cheep but we believe that it works. The Macushield original 90 day pack is the most economical. Must-have capsule for me.

I have taken one tablet per day for approximately 5 year as recommended by the Optician to keep my macula degeneration at bay. In his opinion it should prevent/hold back the problem owing to one of the ingredients in its makeup not always included in other medication. I will need to take them every day for the rest of my life. So far it seems to have slowed the problem down.

They have no after taste and you only need one a day.My eyesight has declined significantly in the lockdown, particularly due to being on the computer all day with poor light at home.Macushield is a well-known and trusted brand and are said to nourish the protective layer within your eye to defend against age-related eye disease and environmental damage and given my tired and blurry eyesight currently I have taken these religiously each day for approximately 3 weeks.I will say I’ve not noticed much of a difference to my sight, but they do seem less irritated and less blurry, but I think it would be impossible to really measure any significant improvements.I will persist and continue taking these ... MoreThese capsules are relatively small and easy to swallow. Recommended by optician

I have been taking these capsules for several years now, on the recommendation of a Boots` optician. Too soon to judge if they are helping with my eye health, but so far, at 84, I seem to be OK and only need glasses for reading. The Boots 3 for 2 offer seems to be permanent and is a big help, particularly at present when we all have to watch the pennies.

Should really be available on prescription

The trials for this product were very impressive. Used to be prescribed by the gp but cost cutting stopped this resulting in it being necessary to buy them. ( recommended by my ophthalmologist). An easy capsule to take and the boots offer make them more affordable
