I had a pairs of these many years ago and was keen to replace them. Initially I bought a 38 (as per my last 2 pairs) but they were too small. I reordered a 39 and they are perfect.Daniel were also very efficient with the returns and refund. I would certainly order from them again.

How can you go wrong with Birkenstocks? Bought this 2nd pair in black. I also have them in brown. An absolute staple! Being short, I really like this more petite styling of a single, smaller strap. Gives the illusion of a longer leg and doesn't cut me off as much as the traditional, double strap. I usually wear a 5.5 - 6 and size 36 was perfect.

This is my first pair of Birkenstocks, and after much debate, I opted for this style. Love the chic silver and simple single strap style. The birkoflor material for the strap is lined in soft felt, so no rubbing or difficult adjustment. The narrow width is the way to go for me - I tried regular width Birks in the 1990's and always felt like I was wearing flippers. These are cute without being too paddle-like. I wear an 8.5-9 medium typically, and went with a 39 in these. I might've been able to do the 40, but they probably would've been a little big. I did buckle these fairly snug initially because my foot doesn't have a whole lot of volume. The footbed took some time to get used to, and I wore these in hour or two increments for the first week or so. As the footbed has started to conform to my feet, they are getting more and more comfortable. They aren't the smooshy comfort I'm used to, but they offer support and stability that I find really great, especially as I get older and can't walk all day in flip flops. Definitely won't be my last pair!

Kind to my feet and my spine

I shouted myself these silver birkies for Christmas. My chiro told me I should always wear arch support sandals rather than havianas or just flat sandals. especially if you’re walking on tiles all day or concrete. She’s right. I feel much more balanced and supported. The silver is a really nice shimmery matt silver. There are a lot more glamorous and sexy sandals around but when your feet feel comfortable, the smile on your face is genuine .

Love, but take a second to get used to

Love the look of these shoes, esp how they're more minimal looking and narrower than other birk styles. When they first arrived, I almost returned them because they're a hard to keep on your foot at first (especially going down stairs). But I took a risk and kept them and and am SO glad I did. I very quickly got used to them being more floppy than other birk styles (took about two wears), and am now able to wear them all day long. I've now had them for over a year and find myself reaching for them often. I rotate between this style and the classic Arizona, depending on my mood/outfit. If you like this style, give them a try!

Not Wowed

Let year I bought the same madrid birk in silver and was pleasantly surprised since they cost considerably less than the arizona style. I particularly liked them bc less bulky. I have difficulty finding comfortable shoes due to some nerve damage in my feet but last year's size 40 madrid felt great! I live in NYC so walking is a part of life. This year I bought them in black but the sizing seems to have changed slightly. Normally wear btn size 10-10.5 in most shoes. Returned the 41s for the 40s - the formers' were too long and loose in toe box (i have a narrow foot) while the latter too short so I had to return them ad well. I will have to get last year's resoled until a find another birk that's equally as comfortable.

Perfect.

Love these! I'm a pretty consistent size 6 regular width and the 36 narrow fits like a glove. I actually have the buckle on the 2nd tightest hole, and there's still plenty of wiggle room even though it's labeled narrow. For reference, I also have the Kairo in a 36 regular which now seems more like a wide, and if not for the back strap on that style, would probably fall off my feet. So I'm glad I got these Madrid slides in a narrow. Also, love the classic Birkenstock support!

Good quality. Very comfortable. Bought size 5.5 as per Birkenstock size guide as I am usually a size 6 and they fit perfectly. Would recommend.

The Original!

I have multiple pairs of Birkenstocks, and have a very old pair of Madrids I use as house slippers during the summer, but haven't seen black in the US for years! Other than the color, these are pretty much the exact same as my slippers that are more over 10 years ago!A lot of customers complained how uncomfortable and stiff these (and the new multi colored Arizonas) are out of the box compared to other Birkenstocks. These are the "original" suede footbed, not the newer "soft footbed" that's foamier. I usually break in the original suede footbed indoors for 1-2 months before wearing them outdoors.

The strange allure of German engineering

I have reached an age where comfort is important and now that Birkenstock can finally be worn without people thinking you are off to the nearest Vegetarian nudist colony I am fully into it. They are the most comfortable, clever solution to all foot-related issues. Great if you are heavier than you should be, crippled by years of silly party shoes or have recently got into organic gardening or a spot of bee-keeping. The 'Madrid' style is a little more 'feminine' (not as stable on your feet) than the classic 'Arizona' but still retains the home-spun undyed quinoa-chic of the other 'health' sandals. The great thing is the birko-flor makes these light for travelling otherwise the all leather uppers on the other pairs are probably nicer and the great party patent ... MoreI have reached an age where comfort is important and now that Birkenstock can finally be worn without people thinking you are off to the nearest Vegetarian nudist colony I am fully into it. If you are hesitating just get with it and do yourself a massive favour. You will never need the Physio again!...and you don't actually have to give up meat either.

Over half a century ago, the Madrid Birko-Flor Sandals were launched as a 'gymnastics sandal'. With it's simple one-strap design, it's still a solid favourite amongst Birkenstocks lovers and ideal for heading out this summer, exploring to rugged coastlines and rolling countryside. With an original anatomically shaped footbed at the heart of every Birkenstock sandal, comfort is guaranteed. The deep heel cup cradles the heel for natural cushioning while a longitudinal arch support runs along the sides for added stability with each step. In the toe area, the raised toe bar also encourages the natural gripping motion of the feet, making the sandal ideal for prolonged walking. With a Birko-Flor upper, the material is easy to care fore and with a soft fleece lined inner, they are gentle on the skin as you walk, preventing irritation and blisters. An open-pored design also adds breathability, creating a comfortable foot climate, even when undertaking more strenuous activity. Sustainability Birkenstock constantly works to improve production processes, products, packaging and logistics. Thanks to the durability of its products, most are sustainable by nature as a high proportion of the natural materials that they use are from sustainable sources, cork, natural latex, jute, leather, wool felt, copper and brass are among these. All raw materials are also hand-picked and sourced sustainably and - as far as nature allows - are all from in Europe.
