A decent saw that cuts like a dream. Previously my Makita had the blade on the left and discharged the sawdust onto you work. This saw is the opposite which is an improvement but the downside is that you have to look over the saw to follow a line…

I was using the 611 makita, decided to pick up the new 660 makita to replace it, disappointed overall, the 660 has blade on the right side which makes its a pain for right handed lads like me to eye a cut nicely which is basically a lost cause straight away, and it really does struggle on rip cuts, more than it should, cross cuts are a dream thoughThe new battery placement is nice, fitting underneath the unit instead of on top, reduces the saw size by 80mm.I’m going to buy the 680 makita. If this saw was blade left sided, had a bit more punch through rip cuts and had a rafter hook attached, it would be perfect.

DHS660Z isnt a great saw, the blade is oriented as with conventional circular saws , motor on left, it cuts well and is very light, but feels cheaply made, the base is bare flat aluminium.

Bought this saw thinking it was the 680z model as seen it was brushless and assumed it was the same saw . Although it isnt as sturdy and has more plastic parts than the 680z it still looked decent so I thought I would just go with it . Very awkward to use if you are right handed as you are constantly bending your head over to see where to start a cut . Not sure if its specific for left handers ?? No hanging bar either which is very useful when roofing and first fixing so all in all a bit disappointing and no where near as good as the 680z .... my own fault I guess for not checking the model numbers !
Great little compact and powerful saw. Quality build from Makita again. A great addition to their 18v platform. Must now get the DTM52z when the price comes down a little!
Wow. Wasn't sure about battery saw if it would have enough power. Very very pleased. Put it to the test and it outperforms both my corded saws and didn't kill my battery nearly as fast as I thought it would. Well worth the money
Had makita tools and batteries for years. Good value and reliable. Used for trade.
New to using a circular saw, but after 50 or so trial cuts and setting the blade perfectly at 90 to it's base ( factory setting off by 3 degrees !), now by eye i can follow a line better than i can hand saw and very plumb to its top ( blade tip quite visable from LH side ) - cut finish is almost as good as a planed surface with the Efficut blade. You do need to take care , patience and skill is required always required for precision and finish. Tool light, fits my hand perfectly - very happy with the tool. No loose toggles as the 680 tool reports - more noisey though. Overall very happy with it. I'll try an invent some sort of guide for it - however, even going by careful eye, it's so much faster than using a hand saw.
Brilliant bit of kit.Bought this to use on some freshly milled oak slabs up to 30mm thick.Went through them like a knife through butter wet or dry(ish).Would highly recommend this item.
I have over the years had a couple of cheaper 18v saws (not Makita) and was largely disappointed. After buying a Makita brushless impact driver and being impressed with it's power I thought I'd take the plunge and pickup one of these Makita saws and after a day I can confirm it's definitely worth the premium over a cheaper brand. It ripped through 50ml sleepers like a hot knife through butter. Very impressed and happy with the purchase.
