Fantastic piece of kit, build quality is great and plenty of power when drilling and chiselling. Very impressed and a worthy replacement for my old 14.4v version - which in itself was an amazing tool and gave years of trouble free service - I’m sure this will be equally as good and better!Highly recommended.Howe Tools Ltd. provided an excellent service.

A great drill. I use Makita because quality is always good, the tools are reliable, and they just plain work. I also have sooooo many makita batteries. Anyway, I needed to drill some holes through brick. My standard cordless drill/driver just couldn’t do the job, so I bought this. I had the holes drill within a few minutes with no drama. Amazingly effective tool. It’ll last for years as well.

Awesome tool

I bought this for a house renovation along with a tri-cutter, initially to cut recesses for electrical back boxes and channeling. I have previously used club hammer and cold-chisel but it’s a slow process. With the Makita, I had installed a double back box in just over 5 minutes.I use a 5amp battery and was still over 50% full after an hour, the added benefit of buying a brushless tool, so for me worth the extra money.The tool feels very well made and I like the compact size. It is noisy, so ear protection is essential.The function knob can be a little tricky to turn at times, but a quick pull on the trigger releases it. It does mention this in the instructions.The house has concrete lintels, and had previously struggled to drill into them for putting up curtain poles, but this cuts through them like a hot knife in butter.I’m used to using tools with a light, but this doesn’t have one which was a little disappointing, but only a minor inconvenience at times.I recently took a wall down using my corded 6.3kg SDS breaker, but having the option of a smaller lighter tool is great, as it allowed me to clean up the rough edges before installing a timber frame.Worth every penny in my opinion, and the service at ScrewFix was as good as ever.

Great machine

A lot of people talking about the selector switch sticking but they have clearly not read how to operate the machine. When selecting between drill only and hammer only you need to press the trigger on drill and hammer setting. It’s a safety setting that stops you moving to drill if you have a chisel into a wall so it doesn’t snap your wrist. Some people should just stick to DIY tools and leave the big toys to the pros. This machine is great! Powerful and lightweight. Does what it needs to do without any fuss!

Another excellent product from Makita, purchased to strip wall and heavy floor tiles and the ever present adhesive used to bed them on in a bathroom. More than ample power for the job and it made removing them easy. Much easier to handle than my big mains powered sds drill and not anywhere near as much vibration as it.

Ummed about getting this version or the smaller one but definitely made the right choice.Put to work drilling holes immediately which go through a hot knife through butter, and channeling out with the impact setting.Very pleased!

I believe that this is probably the best of worlds for SDS and brushless drills. Has the hammer only function and through experience, i have removed fireplaces and brick work with this drill. I have replaced the chuck inners after 3 years, and have now bought a second one for myself.

Makita quality

This is my 3rd one of these drills. I've just replaced one that died last week. It was 6 years old and had been used almost daily in the most demanding of conditions. It spent most of its working life as a mini breaker with an SDS plugging chisel cutting out bricks etc. Much of the time it was used by people that I wouldn't trust with anything, I mean anything, because they'd destroy it and abuse the tool to destruction. For 6 years the drill worked perfectly and then last week I got a whiff of its imminent death when the motor started to smoke. Eventually, it expired and my heart was broken. Fortunately, Screwfix were able to supply me with a replacement the following day. Naturally, I kept the old one partly because I was attached to it and partly because I wondered if a miracle would happen and get it back on its feet again. A quick search of the internet revealed its inner workings and a supplier of a replacement stator assembly. I did a heart transplant on the broken one today and the operation was a complete success and quite simple to do. Now I have two of these awesome drills, I'm so excited that I can hardly think straight or sit still. Come Monday I can bore twice as many holes in things as before. Buzzing!
