I have tried other name brands but each had issues. I really love the comfortable handle and the apparent quality. The blade holder twist lever got stuck first time using when new but it has worked great since applying 1 drop of light oil. Have owned for 1 month.

I'm really pleased with this tool, which I've used to replace a basic jigsaw I've owned for almost 30 years. I use the product for both straight cuts and scroll-type cuts in wood. It cuts wood quickly, is fairly quiet, and will leave a smooth cut, if you use a smooth-type blade. This is my first Makita power tool, and I feel that it is a practical one, which I will enjoy using much in the years ahead.

Built to last, lots of power, as accurate as a jigsaw can realistically be, great quick release chuck, amazing value, and came in a case.Someone else wrote a review saying that the quick release/blade chuck wouldn't hold the blade square, this was not the case for me as mine is perfectly square. They may have had a faulty saw or blade.

My decades old B&D jig saw finally died so I read the reviews and decided the Makita was a less expensive alternative to a Festool Carvex. Not sure that is completely true. Very smooth and powerful saw but the dust collection is lacking and a light would have been nice. Yet for a quarter of the price it is a great saw.
I bought this tool to replace a very old entry level jigsaw that just broke.It is simply day and night. The ease of use is incredible (blade locking system is incredibly easy to use and avoid to touch the blade when hot for instance), the build quality is tremendous (aluminium housing + cast aluminium base).Ony drawback : it is quite heavy. But this is for sure the result of its outstanding build quality.You won't get anything at the same level of quality at this price.Hurry only a few last...
Bought it as a factory refurbished, the saw came in its plastic case and had owners manual. Honestly it looked brand new you would have never known it was a refurb. Plus they included 1 blade which was also brand new, was not expecting that! Used it a couple of times for my DIY projects and it works flawlessly. Really pleased with the saw. I own other Makita power tools, Makita makes a high quality tool they have yet to let me down!
So I did a lot of research before I bought this jig saw, and ended up finding this was the best saw for the money, as CPO had it cheaper than the big box store and there was an additional % off code.I wouldn't call myself an incredibly avid DIYer, I'll probably use this saw a few times a year. So when it came to the negligibly greater power and the LED lights on the other saws- I wouldn't use it enough to justify the extra money, but I did like the quick blade change option on this Makita and all of the other positive reviews.I've used it a few times so far and have found it to be a great tool, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase, or the CPO experience- both were fantastic.
Saw works great! Used to cut curves in treated 2x4's for a porch swing. This saw had to power to get through the wood unlike my harbor freight cheapy which crapped out after 1 board. Cuts were very close to square, I'm sure when cutting through thinner materials it would be fine.
Able to cut straight lines and small angles. Clean cuts even in OSB. Great control. Have toyed with the idea of a bandsaw, but this really takes care of all the small jobs I need.
The blade is skewed to the left, so it will turn inward when sawing straight. If there is no guide, you can still turn around freely, but with guided, you can only watch it deviate from the drawn line more and more. And this keyless blade chuck has no way to control the blade turn to the right a little bit, or the edge of the base can be adjusted to solve the problem.
