First off, product is great. Does exactly as you would intend, even able to drill through several layers of sheet metal with self tapping screws. Upgraded from a Hitachi screwdriver of similar style.I would not recommend you purchase this through Home Depot however. The shipping times you see are not accurate and shipping to store is even more ill advised.

I haven't had the chance to use it a whole lot just yet but when I have it has run beautifully. I really like the auto-stop clutch; it just quietly stops as opposed to the rat-tat-tat of my old one. It feels solid yet not heavy. I like the lock-out feature so you can turn it like a regular screwdriver but also eliminates accidental running when you set it down or put it in it's real nice case. The case also has a nice storage box within it to put driver bits and drills and a lower compartment to put some screws. Everything about this tool is well thought out and make it worth the higher price than other brands. It's a Makita; what else would you expect but a fantastic tool!

First off, product is great. Does exactly as you would intend, even able to drill through several layers of sheet metal with self tapping screws. Upgraded from a Hitachi screwdriver of similar style.I would not recommend you purchase this through Home Depot however. The shipping times you see are not accurate and shipping to store is even more ill advised.

I love this Makita cordless hex driver/screwdriver! I use it for all types of work when a drill or impact gun isn't required. It has plenty of torque and the adjustable clutch just makes it even better! The high & low speeds are a lot better than most. Also, the case that comes with this tool is great! It comes with an extra, nice sized bit case inside of the regular tool case! Excellent purchase !!
I do a lot of service work in the fire alarm industry. This drill is great to take things apart quick and put back together. I keep it in a holster on my hip along with other tools. It's real light, so it adds practically no weight on my hips. Only thing I wish it had was the RPM's to drive in a self-tapping screw. I have drilled holes in steel with a 3/16" drill bit which is nice, just doesn't have the speed for a self-tapper. The low torque setting has impressive power too.
Like that the handle has the two positions. Surprisingly strong. Has a light. Seems good quality/durable. This is my second one to purchase. Bought one for work. Liked it so much, I had to buy one for home.
My hobby is radio control 10th scale cars. I’m constantly taking them apart and rebuilding them, not only to keep them up, but fixing them after breaking something. With 100 screws plus, the Makita mini hex driver is an excellent tool!!
Makita makes quality products. I wanted a screw gun that had a rotating handle so that it had pistol grip. There are a few screw guns out there but not near the quality. Have been using Makita for years and am very happy. Came with a case, charger, two batteries and two screw bits. Same great Makita quality. Does not have a trigger it uses two little pads on the side of the screw gun for forward and reverse. These are alright just takes a little getting used to. Love the rotating torgue setting on the end of the gun so that you don't strip the screws out. Paid around $180 but worth it. This will last me for years.
The Makita DF012DSE driver is the perfect tool for lower torque screw driving applications such as installing electrical devices (switches, receptacles, etc.) and cabinet hardware. The compact size and shape fit easily in a tool pouch and it greatly speeds up assembly. The clutch also prevents stripping small screws.I have noticed in some reviews that people are using this for things like driving deck screws. This tool was not designed for applications like that and while it may be able to do this, I suspect it would not have a long happy life if it were used for this frequently.I have many Makita tools and they all have consistently high quality and high performance.

While i could get by with the clutch and 2 speed control alone, i found myself adjusting the clutch and speed settings more than i wanted, due to scenarios where im working in tight spaces and so my screw goes in at a slight angle where the clutch saves me from stripping it, however due to limited 2 speed setting, when i only want to back the screw out a few threads to realign, i accidentally backed the whole scew out and sometimes loose control and drop the screw (at max speed setting cause who wants to operate a power tool at 200rpm). Now this can be fixed by then setting speed to #1 setting and then proceed to only tap the trigger button, however this extra button manipulation was just adding more frustration than comfort to an easy task.ConclusionFor more precise control i would gear towards the impact model instead. The lack of a variable speed feature was causing too much button manipulation for what could more easily be done by its impact model. Unless you don't care to master all that power and speed into one switch, then play it safe with this clutch option. Note that this tool is for light to mediumish fastener applications, can't help but roll my eyes when people buy this or the competitive dewalt gyro scewdriver/drill option to put a deck together. You've been warned.
