Makita DJV182Z - 18V Brushless D-Handle Jigsaw (Tool Only)

Makita make the best DIY tools and the design of this one is well thought through. The blade release mechanism works well and there is a useful integrated light to illuminate the cutting area. It's possible to cut at up to 45 degrees which will enable me to cut sheet material to fit the incline of my roof.The tool is capable of plunge cutting which I have not tried before but if I master it this will be very useful to avoid drilling.

For a beginner / hobbyist DIYer this is an excellent product. I’ve already cut out an old worktop with relative ease and made a small frame from old wooden battens. This jigsaw with the right blade cut through like butter. Cordless but plenty of power for my usage and felt comfortable in hand. The soft start feature is great for a hobbyist like myself but can see why some pros who want full on power straight away might be frustrated - you can switch this feature off and on though. Overall a brilliant jigsaw

It's a great cordless jigsaw. Not much else to say.Make sure that a decent cordless jigsaw is in your toolbox as it's a very versatile tool, and this makita one is very much a good one. Price-wise it could be a bit cheaper, but you are getting your money's worth in quality.Definitely recommended, and the blades it came with aren't bad either imho.

Do not buy !

The jigsaw it self is not bad at all but there are some features which are really annoying. First thing - there is a turn on off button which you have to press every time you want to use the jig and by that I mean every time you release the trigger and then you want to cut again you need to press it. Which is really awful if you are doing a lot of small cuts. Now I would get over that one but the second thing is that every time that you start cutting, jig saw starts really slow untill you start pushing which you not always want to do especially when cutting scribes. So you end up with a lot of rip marks all over the material as the blade moves really slow. I want to be the one who decide how fast the blade moves !! Wish I knew this before the purchase.

Great tool that works well.

Bought on a bit of a whim but having already invested in the Makita 18v platform. This brushless jigsaw comes out more regularly than my old mains one as setting up needs no consideration of extension leads. The LED light is a nice touch as is the ability to extract dust efficiently through the base. The tool-less blade change works well and it has done all the jobs I have had for it so far just as well as my old mains one. I was a little hesitant, as I had a bad experience in the early nineties with a mains Makita jigsaw which wandered terribly. This is definitely a very proficient saw that will probably have made the mains one redundant.

The slow start is pathetic. I personally hate this jigsaw. It was a total waist of money. I’ve gone back to my 240 v Milwaukee.The slow start runs for about 20 to 30 seconds, I think it’s faulty.Would I recommend it. No way. Makita needs to sort this problem out.I cut plastic with this jigsaw and the slow run had caused me problems.It runs for about 20 to 30 seconds at about speed 1 then goes to full speed without any warning. Rubbish

Great power, compact and easy to manoeuvre. I thought I will find it's functions awkward but it wasn't the case. Nice that you can deactivate it's function and use it as normal one.I think it would of been the perfect jigsaw if the speed control would have been incorporated in the main start button. But it a great tool as is.For sure happy with the purchase.

Review of Makita DJV182Z Body Only 18v Jigsaw With Brushless Motor

Was a bit nervous about replacing my 20 year old 650 mains makita Jigsaw with this 390W cordless. But it cuts like a knife through hot butter, no wander. Doen't seem to have blower as some description suggest, and I'm still not sure about the merits of the slow start, but its a quality bit of kit - glad I went for the brushless motor version.

The most frustrating tool!

I had high hopes for this jigsaw and while it performs very well, it has a major flaw... the pressure start.On first use, the auto lock is frustrating as its just out of reach when your hands sits on the saw when in use. If you don't use it for a small amount of time, it auto locks again.Its annoying but no-where near as annoying as the 'pressure start feature'.What Makita were thinking of when they added this 'feature' I have no idea as it turns a very good tool into something I had to sell on after 3 days .When you (fully) press the trigger, the blade moves very slowly until it feels resistance and then goes to full speed. The trouble is, there is a delay or it never gets up to speed if cutting thin material as it cannot feel enough pressure. I was cutting some thin timber and it just tore and splintered and made a complete mess rather than making a clean cut as it remained in slow mode.I want to be able to go into timber at full speed sometimes and make small detailed minute 'nibbing' but its just impossible with this jigsaw when the blade is going so slow.For thicker timber or once it gets going, it is a good saw but the pressure start 'feature' seems so unnecessary and cannot think of any use for it. If you could turn it off even, it would make this a near 5 star rating - but you cannot.Sorry Makita but I found this the most frustrating and annoying power tool I've ever used in 25 years.I want to control the blade speed with the trigger - not have the jigsaw thinking it knows best when it doesn't.
