$ 50.00 for a portable LED lamp without battery is expensive. The only good thing is that it illuminates a lot and according to the battery you use you will have the hours of use. I'm a cabinet maker and I have many Makitas 18V batteries and I get about 7 hours of light. The bad thing, they get damaged very easily, they stop turning on and the rubber coating of the on and off button breaks easily. I have 6 of these lamps and 3 stopped working during the 1st year. I do not recommend it.

A well made torch designed around a Makita battery in the base, not supplied, which acts as a useful stand for the torch. Multi angle light direction or hang up, via the supplied hook. The single Led gives enough light for most tasks but its not a searchlight. I got fed up changing 3 expensive D size batteries in other torches every time. Pleased with this item.

Okay light for working in close quarters. Definitely not bright enough to light a large job space. Mostly for one or two people within six to ten feet. USB charger is nice if you use those sorts of things. Would probably be good for camping being 360 degree and having the charger, plus a long battery life. The three modes are good but have their drawbacks, first when switching to the last setting, beam, it occasionally has a delay. Also the beam mode is fairly week and doesn't shine very far, albeit more than the flood modes. 180 degree mode drawback is the ways its set up it still sends some light in all directions. While this can be good, when holding from the back it sends too much light into your eyes. Overall its good but not great. For close work I would ... MoreOkay light for working in close quarters. I use this light every day. This is really a spot-light, as you can "shine" out objects at night time hundreds of feet away. Yet it is a good general light for working on cars, construction, etc. in tight places too. The VERY INTENSE spot light does not officially broaden out with an adjustable lens, but the residual light it produces lights a large area. The spot in its center is very bright and illuminates any job very well. Careful, DO NOT look into this light--it will blind you! The LED "bulb" is great. Very intense, long lasting, and small in size. It also uses very little power and it goes for hours and hours and hours on end before it dies. Using the battery as a platform, the light stands firmly on its own and the swivel head allows you to adjust it to shine in any angle. As part of the Makita 18v series of tools, the interchangeable battery platform is the industry standard and literally hundreds of different tools are available which are powered by this system. Two bad things about this light: 1.) they are relatively expensive, at usually fifty bucks minimum. 2.) I only have one, but am looking for another "sale" to get another. If you use the Makita 18v battery system, get out of the dark and get this light! If you don't use the Makita 18v battery system yet, what are you waiting for?
Best of the handheld flashlights I've used from a power tool company. Great for working on something in close quarters, far better than the spot beam lights (Like the DML802) only drawback is the short light throw. Otherwise evenly lights the work area and has two settings. Twisting/ swiveling head is very good for getting the light where you need it. Battery longevity is good. Hook comes in handy. I recommend it over the DML807 which I own, unless you need the 360 degree light.
I crawl under mobile homes as an inspector. With this light I can see clear from one end of the coach to the other. Makes it really easy to count support piers or check for water leaks. The rotating head allows me to adjust the stream in order to get pictures when I need them without having to use one hand to hold the light and another to take the photos. It's also one tough piece of equipment. Its already been scratched, smashed and dropped enough times to wreck a normal flashlight, but, it keeps on rocking. I couldn't be happier, but, then again I've only used Makita hand and power tools so I knew I'd be getting a quality product.
This is the sixth DML 802 that I have bought. I love everything about these with one exception. That exception is that I only use Makita batteries with a power gauge. If You don't have a guage and the battery drops to half charge, the light shuts off and thats it. No light and You are in the dark. Thankfully, with the 5.0 Ah battery, you have 20 plus hours of use on a full charge.
This is the best torch I've ever bought. I already had makita batteries for other tools so bought this torch as the LXT batteries fit all the tools. I've had an 18V 4ah battery in this for six weeks, used it every day and let the kids play with it and its still going strong. It is really bright with a range of around 100 yards. The only bad point on this torch is the strap which is a bit of string and a metal hook which work but seem cheap and out of place on such a good piece of kit however I still gave five starsbecause its a great torch and fantastic value at 13 bare. Rick
I was a bit unsure about buying this torch. Lets face it, there are millions cheaper which do the same job. Actually, there aren't. The beam power, for both width and distance are stunning and with the spare battery from my drill it lasts for an extremely long time without dimming. I'm not sure how the other model with an ordinary bulb performs but I'm very glad I bought this one. I live on a farm and at night it gets very very dark. Makita products do seem to be worth the money, I don't mind paying a little extra for quality like this.
Nice bright light. Compact design makes it easy to use, especially in attics. The major downside to this light is the hanging hook. For one the cord can get tangled. Two, the hook is painted metal which will scar any surface that can be scratched. So you need to be careful if you are working near exposed surfaces. If a rubber coating was applied to the hook, this light would definitely receive a 5 star rating.
