Makita RT0700CX2 710W 1/4" Plunge Router

Very versatile and useful little router. The various different bases cover most of the task for common jobs and it's easy to set up. Glad i bought it. Very happy.

I was looking for a price on the Makita RT0700CX4, the basic trimmer, which sells for around £120 inc and gets great overall reviews. Then I found this. For an extra hundred quid, you also convert it into a plunge or angled router, with a vacuum attachment, guide and other bits and bobs, in a good quality bag with a velcro attached bit holder and two velcro flapped pockets in the lid. It's not cheaper than buying the plunger, angled mount and vacuum attachment separately, but factor in the bag in one package and its a winner. At least £40 cheaper than Amazon too. The plunger's pretty basic, but overall this is a great multi-purpose package at a great price.

A versatile router

The base options included in this kit, make this a most versatile machine and the lightness of the motor creates a machine that is a pleasure to pick and use. I was impressed with easy of switching bases and the rigidity of the motor held by easy to use clips. I now reach for this router more often, finding more uses due to it's versatility. I note the comments regarding the 'bag' but I have found this a real benefit; for me a worth while extra.

Great value kit

I bought this about a month back for use when building my workbench. The router is sturdy and the ramp up speed on start up prevents over torquing in your palm. The fittings are more than enough for the more than average user and allow all the configurations that I can certainly think of. I built a router table into the bench and used it when setting in the plate and producing the mouse holes for the tool on the fence.Great product and well made.

Top marks. A really nice bit of kit. Not included is the attachment that off-sets the router enabling you to get right into corners. A pity, as it would have made the set complete. Perhaps this wasn't included for cost reasons? (the attachment is not cheap!) but you can buy it separately. This set isn't the most expensive out there, not is it the cheapest. For excellent value, at around half the cost, head to Rutlands.co.uk for their own brand. I'm guessing Makita have the edge on build quality, but Rutlands kit is always good.

I bought this to make some campervan furniture as my other routers were to big or not up to the job, what a tool, not me the Makita. The quality is second to none and the versatility, endless, It is so accurate and precise I had to question the quality of the expensive furniture board I had bought. One out of four boards was.75 of a mm thicker on one edge than the others, which I only measured with calipers after I realised the cut was slightly off centre, it was the hours not the router. The accompanying interchangable bases fit easily and are of the same quality and performance abilities.iI rate this as the best piece of equipment I've ever bought, and for the money, it's a steal,well I'm still waiting waiting for the police to turn up.

Bought this little router for rebating and flush trimming as my big plunge router is too unwieldy. This Makita trim router is beautifully made and robust, it’s a joy to use and can be operated single handed. I’ve been machining 18mm ply with it and it’s taken everything I’ve thrown at it without a problem. Some have criticised the height adjustment mechanism, preferring the dewalt mechanism but I’ve found the Makita to be easy to use and precise.

I have tried 2 other routers, one large 0.5 inch and one supermarket budget 0.25 inch. The half inch was too big and cumbersome. The supermarket budget was good for the money, but cannot get additional accessories. This Makita kit is excellent. Small, light, lots of accessories and very easy to use and set up. I highly recommend this kit. The only slightly negative comment is the adjustment depth is a little bit slack, but this has not caused any major problems and for the price, I haven't found anything anywhere near as good.

Altho I've not been able to use much (all packed up for moving house), it was a dream! Lovely tool and great accessories.(However, one can't help but wonder what the price without the giant square soft case would be... Sure, jobbing mobile pros may find the soft cases and single-use plastic ;-( boxes useful, but for garage-based hobbiests and DIYers these are just more THINGS to store and often never used once unpacked. How about prices with and without the often unnecessary /unwanted cases?)Thanks again!
