This is a very nicely made impact driver. The fine trigger control and the bright ring light are the stand out features. If I was buying again, I might pay extra and get the one with the case. If you are buying outside of Japan, done worry about the Japanese fitting for bits, it fits usa/uk standard impact driver bits as well and they work just fine. The ring light is very bright and means you don't always need a separate work light.

Great tool with deep japaneese thought to ergonomics and usefulness. Very useful idea of putting the tork/RPM shifter button next to trigger, eliminating use of the other hand to push the button. Complete LED light ring makes it shadowless unlike other tools. Light weight, different torque/RPM combinations makes this driver my best tool. AND - MADE IN JAPAN - speaks for itself. My another driver (also made in Japan) quit working after somebody borrowed it from me and accidentally dropped it on the concrete... I had it heavily used for 10+years!

Used the driver for 5 days after receiving. The impact driver is being used to set routes in a climbing gym. I love the feel of the driver and the balance compared to the older ones. Moving the handle to the center was a great change. I also like the setting that this one has compared to others. Great buy and for any route setter it is a must-have.

The pinnacle of impact driver technology at this point. The perfect balance between power, finesse and durability. The trigger is butter smooth, the light is a substitute flashlight, the grip is absolutely perfect. Its completely worth getting the Japanese version, you wont regret it.
Received the impact driver about one week after purchase. Items described were all included in a Japanese Makita box with instruction Manuel in Japanese. So far so good. Works and feels super nice. If you dont want the 13 mm wiggle room. I just grind off 4mm of a 1/4 hex bit and put in the anvil.
If you want the improved placement of the controls at the rear, different color options and the fantastic build quality along with the extra smart additional modes this is the shiznit. I have a 170 and a 172 and this is definitely a cut above either of them. All will remove wheel nuts and drill with huge impact bits but the finesse and ease of use of the TD173 make it so much better for screws in wood or metal. Undoes bolts with a perfect auto stop leaving the nut or bolt threaded ready for a quick spin to finish. One thing to be aware of is the 6mm chuck is about 5.5mm deeper than most impact drivers. Makita sell a Bit Piece A-44672 usually about $10 on eBay and I would buy several as they do fall out the chuck and roll away.
This is an awesome impact drill, light, fast, not too loud. It comes in a great colour and with a ring light I don't want to miss any more.
This is definitely not a makita tool. Based on my years of experience using makita tools, this is just a fake product with a makita logo on the shell. The motor sound is completely different from makita's, the LED light is not what it should be, and the electronic button functions are also incorrect. If you only use tools occasionally at home, this product might be acceptable, but if you want a tool with makita performance, do not buy this. The battery was also missing.
This thing is small, powerful and I can tell will become my favorite tool by far.
