Excellent very steady tripod. There is no material covering of the legs to make it easier to carry extended on your shoulder so I cannibalised this from an old tripod. The clips for loosening the legs to extend them are a bit vicious and I wonder how long they will last. There are 3 clips per leg (2 on my old tripod) so it is more difficult to reduce the length to get into my car. My old Manfrotto tripod lasted 20 years though it was having a lot of problems in recent months and had become very unsteady. A very pleasing buy, recommended to me by other birdwatchers.

I am a pro photographer Commercial / Industrial & Advertising and have been carrying around a heavy tripod for years so thought I'd have a change. Decided to buy the Manfrotto MTOCXPRO4 tripod mainly for its weight and size. As it's carbon fibre It's quite light to carry around, really compact and will fit in to a Pelli case1600 or an airline overhead case (without a head attached). It's sturdy even at full height and the QPL system makes it quick to use. The horizontal column mechanism is a good feature but you may need to use a counterweight if fully extended,(there is a hook). The build quality is great so it will take a good few knocks. I also bought the Manfrotto 229 Super Pro Head which again is great. You can't go wrong buying this it is good value for money. ... This is a great tripod. It had everything I wanted. Short enough to fit in my checked luggage, light enough to carry around, tall enough for me (6ft tall+). Only, the second time I pulled the center column up, the plastic rotator collar snapped. It still works, but it is hard to put back to the vertical position. I would have returned this tripod to BH, but it looked like a part that could be replaced fairly easily, so I tried going through Manfrotto warranty support. I've sent two emails through their website in the last week with no response back yet. I'm hoping someone there might see this. I'm ready to just return it and go with Three legged Thing. I have one of those and when I had an issue with the ballhead, immediate response and bonus upgrade because my ... MoreThis is a great tripod. It had everything I wanted. Fantastic product. The pictures do not do this justice,Although this is a carbon fibre 4 section leg tripod of the 055 series, this is the up to date 055, and therefore has the swivel stem, which can be lifted up and swivelled horizontal rather than vertical - at the time of purchase this was not shown in the images. For low action macro and close ups with the ball head this is great to get in low or contort to angles that are normally only possible with alternative brands.Highly recommended for anyone who want a good carbon fibre tripod and compact compared to the 3 section versions.
A very good tripod, it's easy to use and can tell already it is top quality so will be durable and I think it looks great too, chunky yet quality and professional all while staying lightweight.I'd say the tripod itself is worthy of 5 stars but there's a few things to note...There's no head included with the tripod (I don't like this at the price point but I can just about understand it)There is no tripod bag included at all (This is completely unacceptable in my opinion, I've purchased cheaper Manfrotto tripods with a bag included so why they don't include one for the most premium tripods I don't know)I did NOT purchase this at the RRP of £599.95, it's still a top tripod but at £599 without a head or bag it's would be 3 star just on value alone.
Having owned several tripods, over many years, I decided to purchase a, "top of the range," one to replace my old models. I researched which tripod to buy, decided upon the Manfrotto 55CXPRO04 Carbon Fibre type, bought it, and it does everything that I want it to do. It is a versatile, well engineered product using modern materials in manufacture. The only down side is its cost, but, as they say, you have to pay for the best, also, it does not come with a head. So, if you buy this product, you will have to determine which tripod head is best for you - yet another expense - but, for me, the result is an excellent piece of kit that will serve me for many years.
Absolutely love the tripod. The range on the legs is amazing and I love the head it came with. It is buttery smooth. It is rock solid and handles my R7 with a big lenese and also my camcorder with teleprompter and tablet. The center piece going 90 is great. All locks and latches are well made. I really like the secondary lock on the release plate on the head. It's like 2FA for taking your camera off.Things I wish I knew ahead of time:No carrying handel and legs will spread when carrying unless you tighten them, then they are harder to spread.A bag is not included and had to purchase after the fact. I got the manfrotto that is sized for it, which is nice, but would have been nicer to be included given the price of the setup.I would by again, and get the bag ... MoreAbsolutely love the tripod. My decision to treat myself to a bit of engineering luxurywas based on the progression of my arthritic joints from shoulder to fingertips. The Manfrotto MT055CXPRO4 Carbon Fiber Tripodreplaced an old monster. That old cast iron and aluminum rig bowed out gracefully and is now gathering dust.I'll think of a good nickname for the Manfrotto with the matching ball head. It will NOT be 'monster' but something much more affectionate. The controls are easy on the fingers, they hold mighty tight when set, and the versatile flip to horizontal has a learning curve just fitting my 77 year old joints ~ so remarkably easy it is! It takes my full-size DSLR and a big zoom with grace and aplomb, holds steady when I need it, yet allows me to track birds from hummies to herons ... This tripod is light and stable considering what it is. The 62 height is good for my work, mainly filing performance art, and when you add a head like the 504 and a camera on top you're up in the 6' range. As a twin leg tripod with a mid-level spreader it's a good option. I use it for video mainly but also for large lens support hooting photos as the lens can rotate in its collar. This model can take the ground level spreader as well. I have that model as well but couldn't get the mid-level spreader for it as there aren't proper couplers on that model. It uses the older spreader like the 546b. This new spreader is a better design with twin push-in pins securing it. For my type of shooting it wasn't worth buying the newer model that can be used without the spreader. ... MoreThis tripod is light and stable considering what it is. I have a separate independent leg tripod I use in that scenario.Pair this with the appropriate half ball and head and you should have a solid base.
I purchased my first Manfrotto close to 20 years ago, and I loved and used it until it was no longer able to be repaired. I purchased this model as a replacement. It is larger and heavier than my last Manfrotto, but it is made with the same quality and same features. The clips that control the legs as not as well designed and are more likely to pinch fingers as you actuate them. And because it is a larger tripod, it does not fit in any of my tripod bags. That part is disappointing. But I have bought other tripods and they never compare with Manfrotto quality.
