Marantz CR612 Compact Network CD Receiver - Black

After 17 years my stereo system was starting to play up. I like listening to my CD collection and having bought the current system from Audio T many years ago, I decided to call in to see what was on offer.Upon listening to the tone of the Marantz DAB system, I decided it was the one for me.I also decided to revamp the speakers which I saw on display and went for them as well.

All in one network music player

I bought this unit to replace a full size stereo setup in my living room. I had a cd player, integrated amplifier, Dac, and laptop to control. I like to have options for listening to music whether it was a regular cd, Pandora, or music from an external hard drive. This little box takes up less than a third of the cabinet space and does every bit of the work! I love using the HEOS app to control and choose what music is playing. And the app will seamlessly works whether I'm controlling it from my Iphone, or a Kindle fire, or switching between the two. Its also so easy to control my wife has figured it out!.As far as sound quality goes I am more than happy. Fantastic Concept with a but..

So 5 stars if the casing would have been made of aluminum or not have a high gloss finish. On that musical note, it probably would have cost a few hundred dollars more. I was disappointed at first because the high gloss plastic makes it look cheap. It will probably look lousy over time. Also it's not that heavy so it makes me wonder what kind of components are in it and if the unit can drive decent speakers which I have yet to buy.Now the fantastic part. Feature packed! CD player sounds amazing via my Senn's and B&O headphones (no speaker yet, remember ?) Nice ambient lighting options which was a nice surprise. Micro adjustments for sound i.e bass, treble etc. Lots of options for streaming audio thru internet, Alexa and other providers. Great all-in one sound system

Having done a lot of research mostly online, I decided on an audio test with Tayla at the Guildford Richer Sounds store. Given this is intended for my bedroom, it’s not a large space hit the audio test with some smaller Dali Oberon 1 bookshelf speakers gives the best balance for volume and range of music I listen to from classic, pop, rock and metal. Am pleased to say the system was delivered together and easy to set-up. Although still in the burning period for the speakers, I’ve been impressed at both moderate and lower volumes on clarity and bass when needed. The Marantz unit gives, internet, dab radio as well as CD and connectivity for my Spotify account. This means all my music needs are met more than adequately. Marantz - CR612 - Compact Network CD Receiver

I recently purchased the Marantz - CR612 - Compact Network CD Receiver intending to use the HEOS feature to play through my existing HEOS speakers but not actually have wired speakers connected to the Marantz amp (for the time being). Stuart wanted to make sure that my planned setup would work, so he made a call to a Denon expert to confirm. I really appreciated the extra care Stuart took to ensure the product met my needs. The CR612 has worked out great.

Richer Sounds' Customer Service

This review is primarily about Richer Sounds' customer care. We experienced several issues with our original Marantz music system, bought 2-3 years ago, from the very beginning, culminating with a serious fault with its CD player, generating a screeching noise and losing volume control. However, the retailer's, Richer Sounds', response has been highly commendable. They sent it away immediately for repairs and, noting manufacturer's prolonged failure to take any action, they took it upon themselves to replace the unit at their own cost. Super features, everything in one box

Having looked long and hard the Marantz M-CR612 was perfect for my application. Does everything I need. Bluetooth, streaming, radio, CD player, USB connection. It is an 'all-in one' unit and compact. Sounds pretty good too, I was slightly concerned regarding it's Class D amplification mode but there was no need to worry. If you're looking for something that's compact and does just about everything in one box then this covers it, and at a very reasonable price. Delighted.

Got the black version from the great guys in the Newcastle store to replace a 12 year old m-cr603 which has been wonderful. Really easy setup and excellent sound from my Monitor Audio Bronze speakers. Got a good price, a 6 year warranty and delivered free the next day. Highly recommend this and shopping at Richer Sounds, the best store on the High Street.

Wow but with a BUT

Purchased to replace a Sony separates system 27 years old.I have a vast CD collection and I was/am not ready to give up on that even though most of the titles are on my iPod and backed up.The system is very simple to set up. Connecting to my domestic internet was not a problem, although it's still relatively pre-historic if you go down the route of inputting the password instead of simply pressing the pariing button on the server. I found selecting upper case, lower case and symbols annoying. Having then set up the unit, it was easy to connect headphones via Bluetooth and I could receive DAB radio which was a deciding factor for this unit. Naturally I allowed this to happen, albeit with some trepidation (largely due a mistrust of the update process) but it happened without issue. However, even more annoyingly, after the update had been applied, all the previous settings had been erased and I had to start again. Grrrr. Initially, despite having found the DAB stations first time around, the system struggled to find the channels second time around.Rightly or wrongly, I went back through the entire set-up process and re-entered all the network info again. Everything then worked perfectly and we had DAB back. The other option is simply to run internet radio. There is a slight delay when compared with my standalone portable radio, but not enough to worry about.All in all, this is a good unit, more than adequate for everyday use. It also saved me money vs buying separates. I'm happy to recommend it. I have no association with Richer Sounds or Marantz.

When I phoned RS for advice, the guy on the phone guided me toward the Marantz Melody which I had completely missed... after reading reviews I decided to bite the bullet. My Marantz arrived the next day. After unboxing, it took about 30 minutes to get cables connected and unit in place. Another 1 hr (aprox) to connect to wifi and find my way around the remote.Once set up I sat back and listened.... The sound is more than adequate in every way, i would personally describe it as excellent. I can not claim to be an audiophile or hifi expert in any way but the clarity of sound and definition of instruments / vocals etc is excellent.My speaker set up is probably a bit basic by most hifi standards - a pair of budget Wharfdale D320's and a pair of vintage (refurbed) Wharfdale Linton XP2s - but for my ears they sound at their best with the Marantz. Having the choice of using either or both sets of speakers is quite useful for different genres and moods and its nice to experiment. Tone controls are accurate and easy to adjust to my taste (all via remote controll), and there is a bass boost feature which i find useful at lower volumes.The main benefit to me is the spotify direct feature, the difference between bluetooth and wifi connection is quite noticable, with wifi providing a most rewarding musical experience. My room is about 30 Msq and the amp is more than capable of blowing out my double glazing - I have never had it above about 1/3 and that was too loud for me! anything above that in a residential area and you will be getting a knock from the council!!All in all the Marantz Melody is a great value, all in one box of tricks that even the most demanding ear will struggle to find fault with.Thank you Marantz - you have rekindled my love of music.
