I recently purchased both of these items which are just brilliant. No looseness on the fins and the snorkel didn't let any water in no matter how hard I tried on purpose. I also purchased a different set of fins which were inappropriate for me so I phoned up and spoke to someone about what I needed and he gladly helped me over the phone for a good 20 minutes due to being a bit of a rookie and all. They took the other fins back no questions asked. Fantastic shop and I won't be buying my gear from anyone else. Thanks guys.

I used this snorkel only about 3 times whilst on holiday this month, after which i discovered that the plastic cap covering the membrane had dropped off. The membrane now has no protection and keeps falling out, this snorkel is now unusable. I am very disappointed as I thought Mares to be a good make. Happy to send a photo and I would like to return it. I will consider a replacement, but would now choose a different model. Please advise. Thank you. Lisa Beaumont

A Rare Miss by Mares
30 October 2012

Pros- Solidly built plastic.- Bottom purge valve works well- Comfortable mouth piece.Cons- The snorkel clip is a bad design. Doesn't release easily and mine broke within three dives.- The desert dry valve sticks shut occasionally, requiring pliers to fix. When it jams shut, you can't suck any air in. I'd classify that as a safety issue.Bottom line: I managed to fenagle my desert dry valve to open and close freely, and am happy with it now. But after the problems I've had with it, I wouldn't buy it again. It's a shame...usually Mares makes quality stuff; the overall build quality is good, but the dry-valve design is horrible.

Another overrated rubbish from Mares. Just add water - throw it away.

I don't get it how this snorkel was rated so high by some wannabe experts. Must be Mares marketing trolls polluting the web with fake reviews. To cut the story short, you will be drinking a lot of salt water whether in calm or choppy waters, whether diving, freediving or just snorkelling. You will be very lucky survive in moderate surf. Verdict: never again. Back to my old Tusa Hyperdry snorkel.

Bought it, used it and loved it!
13 September 2013

I purchased this before a recent dive vacation to Bonaire and used it while snorkeling and when swimming back to shore after a dive. It is comfortable and doesn't flood. I'm so glad I made this purchase. I've also noticed that the mouthpiece isn't huge like a lot of other snorkels that I've tried to use. You've heard the expression that "third times a charm?" This is the third snorkel that I've purchased in the last year and I think I have finally found a winner. The only upsetting thing about it is that I returned from vacation and went on-line to purchase another like this for my daughter and the price dropped after I made my purchase. Oh well - my timing was just off but at least I got a good snorkel FINALLY!

I have used this snorkel for over two years and it has been flawless. It is a great fit and mouthpiece for me is very comfortable. Super easy to clear. Build quality is superb. I would solidly recommend this snorkel.

Good quality piece of kit
13 September 2019

Bought this snorkel to take with me to Indonesia. Lovely dry breath, very easy to clear through bottom valve and float didn't stick at all. mouthpiece very comfortable and designed in a way that i didn't have to grip it which made for a much more relaxing swim. Good piece of kit.

Pretty good - but check valve function

Compared this Mares snorkel with 3 other brands recently in an effort to get the best snorkel I could for under $35.00. Although I did not test this snorkel in water, it appears the snorkel is well constructed, has a comfortable mouthpiece, a large breathing tube, and a very sleek overall design. However, I also felt there could be 2 potential problems. 1st--the snorkel to mask plastic attachment piece was cumbersome to use and, in my opinion, could be prone to breakage if the snorkel were to be attached and detached to the mask regularly. 2nd--the top dry valve seemed as though it wanted to stick shut every now and then. Maybe it was just the particular snorkel I had, but I could see a serious panic problem develop if an inexperienced person was out in open water ... MoreCompared this Mares snorkel with 3 other brands recently in an effort to get the best snorkel I could for under $35.00. Thought the other snorkel's I compared had better designed top valves which opened and closed easier than the valve on this Mares model. Bottom line: I am big on Mares products (90% of my dive gear is Mares) and while I would not be afraid to own and/or use this snorkel, in my honest opinion, there are better snorkel's out there for the money. Sorry Mares - 3.5 to 4 stars TOPS on this one. Safe diving to all!!

Was the Wife's, Now its Mine!

I initially got this snorkel for my wife because of the great reviews. When my TUSA snorkel and her MARES snorkel arrived I looked at the mouthpieces and thought 'this is just wrong'. This snorkel has a HUGE looking, almost intimidating, mouthpiece. And quite a large purge area as well (I like my gear super streamlined). That said, this snorkel is so comfortable and user friendly that I gifted it to myself (thanks wife!). Things I like: large bore = more air and after using a regulator this feels very natural, mouthpiece can be adjusted for either side of your mask (I use an inflator/regulator for a secondary and I prefer to have the snorkel on the right side), the mask clasp isn't the best but it moves up and down and swivels providing a super adjustable fit, ... MoreI initially got this snorkel for my wife because of the great reviews. The only thing I don't like is that it floods easier than others I have tried (I could have just been lazy from diving for two days).
