A bit stiff and narrow, but a good fin

I initially ordered size 11/12 - too big. LP did a no-charge exchange no problem. Then I got size 9-10-1/2. Swam the fins today in the pool for 1/2 mile. The foot pocket is a little stiff and narrow for me, but but no blisters. I was spoiled by a prior fin that had an all-soft-rubber pocket - that ultimately ripped. I swam these fins in the pool for some more time with Lycra socks on and they felt better. I recommend these fins.

Best foot pocket of any full foot fin

For over 25 years, Mares has had the best foot pocket in the business! I have been using these full foot fins to dive/snorkel for about tat long nd sold them I had a scuba shop. The fin desjgn has changed from 2 channel now to 3, but the fins perform the same- great! Best fin for the type and monet.

Fit well, fin tips are a little rough

I got these to replace a pair of Mares Power Plana HP fins I had and loved for years and are no longer made. While these are a little shorter, they did fit in my suitcase. I am a size 12 and was recommended to get the next size smaller. This is the first time I have ever done that with Mares Fins and I have used their fins since 1989. But the advice was correct, the 9/10's fit like a glove after a couple minutes breaking them in. The only negative thing I can say is that they are not made in Italy like previous versions. These were from Bulgaria and the finish at the fin tips was a little ragged as if they were not trimmed up after exiting the mold. We will see how long they hold up. I still have some Plana Avanti Scuba fins from 1990 that are still in great shape ... MoreI got these to replace a pair of Mares Power Plana HP fins I had and loved for years and are no longer made. Overall they seemed to work well and are my new travel fins due to the shorter length.

Good fins for snorkeling and I would say scuba too in warm water
10 October 2018

I like this fin. I have a number of open heel fins including the Mares Quattro for scuba and I like their fins so I bought this for warm water snorkeling. It has pretty good propulsion and is sleek and surprisingly comfortable for a closed heel even without socks or booties. No blisters or anything. With closed heels, size is everything. Helps that I live in NYC so could visit the store for tryout. I am a US 10.5 and I bought the size 8-9 (42-43) and it’s a perfect fit. Size down one from your shoe size if you’re going bare or stick to your shoe size if you’re using neoprene socks. Best to always try out for fit though, in the same conditions you would use the thing

Good fins, stiff foot pocket...
3 June 2013

I purchased this pair of fins because they were on sale. I got them to replace a pair of Aqualung Express full foot that only lasted me about a year. The Aqualung were stiff so they gave you great power, but the thing I liked the most was that the foot pocket was like a sock. Soft and with full protection for the toes. The Mares foot pocket is way stiffer, it doesn´t fit like a glove, like the Aqualungs, but they seem to be more durable. The blade is very flexible, so they are way easier to kick than the other ones. Its a good fin but they could work a little bit more on the foot pocket to make it more comfortable.

Good sturdy fin, be careful with sizing
19 November 2020

I am an experienced snorkeler who was looking to replace a beloved old pair of fins that had finally given out. I have a wide forefoot with a narrow heel and low-volume foot overall, so fit can be tricky for me. I am usually a Euro size 41 or women's US 9 in sandals/9.5 in athletic shoes. The Medium-Large (6.5/7.5) was the correct size for me, which also fit my husband who usually wears men's US 8.5. (I initially sized down to the Medium in these based on the advise of other reviewers but that was much too small!)If you have strong legs, like the feel of a beefier snorkeling fin, or anticipate swimming against some currents, these are a good option. I did not find these to fatigue my legs too quickly, but they are a bit on the stiffer/heavier side. Likewise the heel cup and foot molding is a bit stiffer feeling, which led to a little discomfort for me, but not too bad. The molding around the foot opening is a little rough which I found scratchy when trying them on on land, but did not bother me in the water. In my luggage, these were just slightly too big for my larger carry-on backpack, but were still fairly compact for travel.I'd recommend these to experienced divers/snorkelers, but they may be more than you need if you're just starting out with snorkeling and plan to stay in calm water.

Great Value in a Fin
13 December 2013

I wear a 7.5 shoe and the 6.5-7.5 fit me nicely. They are not too tight, even though I am at the max for the size. For warm water, I prefer these to my mares open heel quattro plus. Good propulsion when you need to move, while being efficient so you can relax and cruise. For snorkeling, they would be a great choice at an attractive price point. Tried the split fins, force fins, etc., and, NOTHING beats the mares line for efficiency and power. Many companies have tried to make similar fins, but to me, mares is the gold standard in a scuba fin. And they look awesome as well!

MARES AVANTI FULL FOOT FINS ARE PERFECT!
14 November 2019

Great fin...great fit. Perfect for my husband who finally gave up his fins of 40 years when they broke at the back heel. I own the longer Mares fin and love them...great for currents, ease to put on...sturdy and reliable. Definitely a winner! We're on our way to Bonaire in December and Little Cayman in June...

Mares Avanti Fins
11 February 2015

I tried these fins on before purcahsing them online. I normally wear a womens size 8.5 but i bought the size 6.5/7.5 fin and they fit perfect. I think these fins are based off mens shoe size, so it makes sense that my size was 6.5/7.5.They are a well constructed and pretty heavy duty. They are exactly what i was looking for. I have heard they are great for snorkeling or diving. I am going on a trip in a month and i will be trying them out for both activities. Based on what i know about fins, these are the best in the market for beginning snorkels and divers and they are a great price.

Not your ordinary snorkeling fins...
11 August 2016

I have had a pair of these Mares Plana Avanti Tre Full Foot fins for years now and I just purchased two additional pairs for my daughters, ages 18 and 22. We are avid snorkelers and I wanted to upgrade their equipment. On a recent trip to Curacao, we snorkeled off the beaches of Playa Porto Mari, Playa Lagun and Grot Knip, often going as far out as the "drop off". These fins are a "step-up" from most of the commonly available snorkeling fins, but they are a pleasure to use. They have fantastic speed and quick response for staying safe near rocks, surges and currents, and of course, are great for those long swims back to the beach. A bit bulky to pack for a trip and costs a little more than ordinary snorkeling fins, but definitely worth it!Thanks to Leisure Pro for ... MoreI have had a pair of these Mares Plana Avanti Tre Full Foot fins for years now and I just purchased two additional pairs for my daughters, ages 18 and 22. Both girls are size US 7-7.5 and found the smallest size available a comfortable fit.

Mares Plana Avanti Tre Full Foot Fins

(100 reviews)

The Avanti Tre diving fins have a blade length that varies from 31 to 37.5 cm depending on the size. The fins have a closed, orthopaedic shoe. The design and construction materials of the Avanti Tre diving fins make them ideal for recreational diving but also for snorkelling in warm waters. The thermoplastic rubber foot pocket has an orthopaedic design that allows it to be used barefoot or with neoprene socks. The shape that wraps around the instep and the part above the heel have a border of differentiated thickness for prolonged use. Made with Channel Thrust technology, which deforms the channels during the flat phases, increasing the size of the blade and consequently the thrust. This makes finning easy and effective. Available from size 36 to 46 in yellow, blue and black.
