Marina Gravel Cleaner Medium

This vacuum is pretty much useless.The oval type shape requires much more flow to work correctly, but the hose is not capable, after the first minute the hose disconnected, it just slid off causing a mess of water on the floor. Such a bad design make you wonder if they even tested this design on any aquarium, as it is a waste of money. Stick to cylindrical types only is all I can suggest.

Found very hard to start water flow. Once going sucks a lot of water for little dirt pick up. Bucket clip/ shut off is useless, it does not stay attached to the hose and does not shut the water off completely.

It was no good! I had not appreciated the size from the illustration....I only have a little tank! Now I find I have got to look on line to find out how to send it back......it came in an enormous box which I don’t fancy carrying all the way to the post office.......still it really made me laugh imagining sucking up fishes, weed, rocks and everything if I tried to use it in a tiny tank!!

Do not buy

Had a product similar to this make before, so I thought Id have another as my previous product worked really well. This one Doesnt work. Cant create a vacuum to drain the water . Fell apart within 5 minutes.

Easy and effective gravel cleaner

This gravel cleaner is so easy to use. It sucks all of the dirt out of the gravel without taking any gravel, fish or snails. It has a clip to hold it in the bucket while being used. I bought one years ago and have just replaced it with the same one.

Flawed

The 'easy start' is nonsense, it doesn't work however hard you try so the only way to get the water flowing is either to submerge it in the fish tank or suck until the water is pulled through. Not impressed. Other than that the build quality is good and it works well when the water is flowing.

Longer Life & Efficient to Use

I purchased my first Fluval EasyVac Gravel Cleaner Medium (37com) in 2020 and it has only just lost it's full function, due to a break in the seal where the head fits onto the shaft, causing little bubbles of air to mix with the outflow...However, having purchased two cheaper, but inferior $23 gravel vacs that only last for about 6 months before breaking - this model has four times the life and works much more efficiently...Here's why: Firstly, I like the elliptical shaped head, which allows it to penetrate the gravel more deeply, get into the corners of the tank, but without disturbing so many plant roots in the tank. Thirdly, I like the way that the coiled neck prevents the hose from kinking, facilitating it to orient with gravity, naturally towards the collection bucket. Fourthly, the bucket clip works really well at preventing the hose from releasing water onto the floor, preventing dirty water spilling onto ones clean floor boards, tiles, rug or carpet. Ir holds the hose nice and steady and attachessecurely to the bucket brim! The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that the seal between the head and non-kink tube neck could be more resilient, preventing air from escaping after it's been cleaned a few times. Also, it would be great to have a lever on the sieve that helps to expel caught up leaves, roots and debris, without requiring gardening tweezers. Overall, this one's worth the extra money...I just wish they'd provide free shipping!

Nice long large tube.

This is perfect for the job that it does, the long oval shaped tube is long enough so that the ingress of gravel is easier to control, you can actua;;y see the dirt going up the tube and when the gravel starts to lift, you just lift the tube and it falls back down. A pump start for the suction would have been a good addition but I had one and put it onto the tube, a few pumps and the suction is going, I also put a tap on it. Get the size that is right for your tank, mine is just to the water surface, if it is too long, cut it down.

Not recommended

Unfortunately this does not work. I did not like the automatic vacuum technique. Having a hand pump option is so much easier. I would not recommend this and have ended up buying one that has a hand pump which works.
