Multiple stories intertwined, but only one was actually interesting, and it was all written in a terrible way, so much so that it becomes a chore to read. Upside down pages, blank pages, pages with different sized fonts. Honestly, it was annoying to read, and I wouldn't recommend to anybody. The weird/random writings did not add anything to the reading experience. It is way overhyped.

I really don't know how to describe the incredibleness that is is book. Giving a synopsis would be extremely difficult because even after reading it, I can't come up with a concise way to describe what it is about. I have read other reviews and apparently everybody has different interpretations depending on how they read the book. I would go into reading this book blindly, without looking up details about it because that just makes it so much better. Reading is book is very difficult because there are three stories happening that all intertwine, but they are out of order and some sections end mid paragraph and you have to hunt for the continuation, some pages have full text, others are blank, and some are even written sideways. This is not a book that you can just pick up and expect it to lead you through an amazing story, you have to work for it, but the results are amazing. If you like horror that stays with you, pick this up. For hardcore readers only.

Everyone and their dog recommends this book, but for good reason. It's truly unique; the formatting and layout of each page alone is enough to keep you intrigued. Suspenseful and interesting!

Compelling and horrifying. A labyrinth circle of footnotes within footnotes within footnotes! Found it very hard to put down. Wonderfully and confusingly great!!!
A completely innovative way of writing. If you want to read something a little different but addictive then this is the perfect book. Its a story in a story which is Atmospheric, scary and emotional. The reader will become attached to the characters, and will have a lingering feeling long after the last page is turned. Its the book that makes no sense, but perfect sense at the same time.
This is a truely unique book. Inception meets Stephen King. The use of color captures the reader and words and phrases begin to insert themselves from the very beginning into their minds.A haunting, scary experience that creeps up on the reader.
Not shortly after starting to read House of Leaves I felt that it was a book written for me. If you like media that challenges what the media is, and you like books about books, or films about films, then you may want to give this one a try as it is a book about a book about a film, or, in other words, a labyrinth. It requires some assembly at reading as House of Leaves toys around with footnotes and even the distribution of the text in the pages. It does ask a lot of about what are the limits of a book and what are the limits of a reader, but the 'horror' story in it was fun, gave me the creeps and the whole thing was just non stop fun for me.
This book is not just an amazing read. It is, if you take the time and make the effort, it is an immersively gratifying experience. First go find Poe's, (the singer and Daniel's sister), album *Haunted*. It is an amazing companion piece to the book. Also this can be read solo but every time i have read the book, including the first and most special time, it has been with a partner. I could go into all the crazy easter eggs and codes within the book but figuring it all out is part of the journey. Here are a couple of bread crumbs for you, (that i don't think you should go to before hand but maybe after or while you are deep into the book), YouTube channel Pelican Black and Night Mind's video essays are wonderful. There are all many different web sits and IRL documents that you should seek as well. Most of the IRL dicuments can be found as scans on said web sites though. My review ends simply, I am extrodinarily envious of anyone starting this adventure for the first time. I have greatly enjoyed going on this trip with loved ones. The first time was the best time not just because I experienced it with my brother who has since passed, but because it was my first step into this house and i have become one of it's guides over time. Holding the door open for others always gives me a sigular thrill. Finally, to be brutally honest, and barring his newest series "The Familiar" i have tried very hard to get into Mark's (wait... I called him Daniel above didn't I? Dammit. I cannot scroll up to fix it... Ah well, fornicate it.), other works and they are just... Well... Not for me. I cant disbarrage the man who gave me House Of Leaves no matter how... Not for me, the rest of his work might be. So stop reading my rambling review and Go! Read the book! Explore the House! Enjoy!
This book. Confusing like a found homemade film. Yet dark and allusive through the mysterious house. It is an amazing book, with its unreliable narrators covered with a deep dark story. You'll get lost and confused at all stages through the book yet still continue to be lured in.
Beautiful, romantic, captivating and unbelievably scary. This is one of the best horror books, and most interesting, I have read. The unique layout of the pages really work to draw you into the story. I couldn't put it down! Have already finished and plan to read again soon.
