I appreciate the tonal settings as I have difficulty with hearing, and these make it easy to optimise settings for listening to audiobooks. In the past fortnight I have enjoyed some music and four unabridged Discworld novels.Taking phone calls initially takes some practice and sometimes the control button can be a little awkward for arthritic fingers, but it is delightfully responsive and rewards one's patience in persevering to understand the technique. Being able to go forward and step back through a book without having to fiddle with the phone's display is a real bonus. The charge status is clearly indicated, and the battery capacity permits a solid eight hours listening with ease. Charging is straightforward and a helpful speaker charge level is displayed as a percentage on my phone when the Marshall app is active.

Despite its small size, it includes a 2” full range driver along with 2 passive radiators to help improve bass and presence despite it being volumetrically so small. Can it live up to its promise of great sound everywhere? The box it comes in is just as small as the device, only slightly larger. Inside this box is the Willen II. Cutely, it looks like a miniature Marshall guitar amp, with an all black enclosure with vinyl style textured casing, Marshall’s signature weave on the driver side and even small but on brand Marshall brass logo and multi-function joystick adoring the front. Around back you’ll find the rubberized strap that offers you a convenient way to attach this small speaker to a bike, pole, fence, or other object. Around top you’ll find the power and bluetooth buttons, along with a couple LED lights to inform you of the battery level and bluetooth pairing. I love this touch, as it leaves the joystick with one job, and does not require you to memorize how to turn on or off, enter pairing mode, or whatever. The LEDs are a sorely missing feature in many modern devices, and the battery LEDs give me Thinkpad vibes, which is always a good thing. Around on the left side is a USB-C port for charging.Overall build quality matches what you’d expect from the Marshall name. The device feels solid in the hand. The plastic based casing seems fairly durable, and it’s all black color seems like it would hide blemishes you would expect an outdoor life oriented speaker to receive or time. The rubberized strap has a notch that seems like it would hold up for a while, but I would assume eventually wear out. Luckily there is a commitment to spare parts, and authorized repair services stated on the website. While these could end up being empty promises, the support section for the Willen II does exist; so hopefully spare parts will appear once the product has been in circulation for a while. I do expect the strap to need replacing after a couple years. The Willen II boasts a microphone and allows you to take calls on it. This feature is hit or miss on a lot of speakers, but for a personal area speaker, it’s a great feature. After you initially connect the speaker to your phone, you should be prompted to download the Marshall Bluetooth app. This app helps access a few extra features and manage software updates. The biggest items of interest are the battery preservation, which offers 4 settings to help lengthen the lifetime of the lithium battery found in the device. Each setting progressively turns on features, starting with limiting max charge to 95%, limiting charge speed when temperature of the device is too high, and finally overly limiting charging speed. I love that these features are built in to the firmware and its a good focus on sustainability. The other big feature you get in the app is the equalizer, which really only exposes 3 presets: Marshall, Push, and Voice. Marshall has a bit of a more mellow bass heavy that some might find a bit muddy sounding. The Push setting is more of a traditional v-shaped ‘powerful’ EQ. Voice cuts the bass down quite a bit, making it a good setting for higher volume applications. After carrying the device around for several hours, I landed on the Push as my daily driver. The extra clarity from the treble was needed for me to enjoy most of my music. However, there was definitely some music that the Marshall EQ setting kept the sound super mellow, so your mileage may vary.Sound wise, as I hinted, the speaker tries to be really bass heavy for its sound volume. First, the sound out of this speaker is limited. A Macbook Pro definitely gives it a run for its money on volume alone, so don’t expect to party with this speaker. You’ll definitely be happy with it strapped to your bike, or a fence with a couple friends while you're out and about. It’s too big to really strap on for a run or other exercise, but for outdoor work or other personal sound applications its perfectly fine. With its 2 passive radiators, it certainly is making the most of the tiny enclosure. You can even see one of the radiators through the holes on the back of the speaker. If you don’t know, passive radiators are unpowered drivers that take the place of ports, and when matched properly can help produce better bass response without using any additional power. Marshall’s engineering prowess is on display, as the local area of the speaker produces a pretty impressive bass response. I’d argue its a bit overtuned, but the masses prefer that bass. I would really love to see a fully customizable 3-5 band EQ in the app someday. Perhaps a firmware update someday could add that.Speaking of firmware updates, there is a pretty big feature slated to make it to the speaker in the future called Auracast. Auracast is supposed to be local area broadcasting to allow other speakers, headphones, and devices to stream audio from a single source. While there are tons of possible applications of this technology, it essentially offers an extensible and open way of pairing multiple speakers together.Overall, the Marshall Willen II is an excellent personal speaker. If your expectations of volume are in check, it offers great battery life, build quality, features, and promises of repairability and longevity. Its lightweight, boasts some impressive sound for a 3-10’ listening distance, offers a speakerphone capability, and adjustable sound. The price is a bit steep, but you really do feel like you're getting a quality product.

This does not go to say that Marshall put build quality aside as this speaker has everything you could ask for from the extended rubber enclosure on the front to help protect the grille from drops to an IP67 rating where it is dust and waterproof resistant being able to submerge the speaker in three feet of water for 30 minutes. The compact nature of the speaker also sets this speaker apart for me as speakers anymore seem to put a focus on a booming sound which can be great, but the portability aspect suffers to which the portability component here is top notch from any portable speaker I have tested. Not only does it have a small form factor that fits easily in your hand and is manageable on the go, but the rubber fastening strap on the back is an absolute game changer!! The reason here is that it keeps the speaker secure to whatever it is attached to. Yea, other speakers may have a strap or handle that the speaker dangles from but then when you are moving it is swaying or moving all over the place. With the rubber strap here it can be attached to bikes, strollers, golf carts, etc with a fixed sound and not the sound going in and out as the speaker sways when moving like the speakers of its competitors. The other various features of this speaker are right on par with its higher end competitors as the USB-C charging, built in microphone, and 17 hours of playtime are all perfect features to incorporate. I do want to highlight the ease of use here though as the speaker is the perfect fit of simplicity and features as on the speaker it has simply a power button, Bluetooth button, and control knob on the front for playback (which I will say again from an aesthetic standpoint is a great way to hide the playback buttons while at the same time allowing easy use). However, the battery indication light is a great feature to have as the speakers with just a low battery light are not helpful for knowing the battery status in increments of 20% (5 lights on the speaker) is helpful when on the go to know actually if I need to charge the device or not. The other feature I always find enjoyable is that when powering on you get the electric guitar sound which is just a small touch Marshall added in here that shows they thought of every little thing with this speaker.I do have to mention the app here as everything has an app nowadays, but Marshall did a great job keeping it simple as the app allows you to change the EQ settings (Push - boosted bass, Voice - midrange clarity, and Marshall - their "fine tuned" optimal range) and some battery preservation features that you can toggle on if you wish. So overall fairly standard, but again the ease of use here is great as Marshall seemed to not want to go too tech heavy from a usability standpoint which is a breath of fresh air from a tech product.Onto the actual sound quality though as I`ve glowed about the portability and aesthetics you can tell that is where Marshall retained their focus on this product though the sound quality does not suffer as it is fairly on par with other Bluetooth speakers. Being a more compact speaker though don`t expect booming party sound though it is perfect for that more personal listening with a couple friends close by. Again, the eq presets allow you to modify the sound to your liking so for me this checked the sound box perfectly.Overall, this has been my go to speaker when out and about over the other more prominent names in the Bluetooth speaker space simply due to the fact that Marshall has absolutely nailed the portability aspect here! The aesthetics give it that high end refined look that you don`t mind being seen in public with versus a long tube speaker with bright vivid colors. The sound quality is exactly what you need for portable listening and thus if you are looking for a speaker for an active lifestyle this is definitely the one I would recommend.

[Rewarded Review] Durable, high-quality speaker

The Marshall - Willen II Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a very handy, high-quality, and durable Bluetooth speaker. Despite its compact size (it is only about 4 inches wide by 4 inches tall by less than 2 inches deep), it has amazing sound quality and power I was not expecting although I should have known better given that this device is a Marshall branded product. With 17+ hours of portable playtime, this Marshall – Willen II speaker has very impressive battery life. The fact that the battery can quickly be topped-up to about 5.5 hours of playtime with only a 20 minute charge is equally impressive although I doubt I will ever be in a position where the 17+ hours of playtime at once is ever not enough.Another thing that is very impressive about this Willen II ... MoreThe Marshall - Willen II Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a very handy, high-quality, and durable Bluetooth speaker. It is designed to be dust and waterproof (IP67 rating meaning it can be submerged in 3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes). Considering how small and portable it is, durability is a very important factor and the Willen II certainly meets the minimum durability requirements I would expect from a speaker specifically designed for portability and use in various environments. One other feature I really like is the built-in microphone. This allows the Bluetooth speaker to also be used to take calls hands-free which is convenient when you receive a call while already streaming music to the speaker. The fastening strap really comes in handy as well since it makes it easy to strap it to my hiking pack when I’m out on hikes and want to have some music running in the background.Overall, the Marshall - Willen II Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a durable, high-quality speaker and I highly recommend it!

I think of my parents and I wonder if they would be able to use this type of product. I consider this to be one of those devices that are very simple to use for almost anyone with a smartphone.Something that stands out from the start is the electric guitar sound that the speaker emits when turning on, connecting to a device and turning it off, it is a detail that I simply love. The process is simple: there is a power button that is pressed for a few seconds to start the speaker, right next to it a bluetooth button that when pressed for a few seconds activates the pairing mode, in the bluetooth settings of the device to which the speaker will be connected the WILLEN II speaker is chosen from the list, in a moment the speaker is paired with the device and ready to use, you can play music on the speaker now.Next to the power and bluetooth buttons is the bluetooth led indicator, the microphone and the 5-bar battery indicator. The truth is that everything is simple and easy to understand. On the front on the upper right side, there is a small gold joystick that serves to increase and decrease the volume, move to the next song or go back to the previous one, and pressing inward play and pause. On the back there is a rubber strap that can be removed from one end to be able to place the speaker in some places like tubes or something similar where you can hold the speaker, plus the design allows it. In my case I have placed it on tripods, boom arms, the shower, etc. I consider this a very useful feature. In terms of performance, I think it fulfills its purpose impeccably, although the fact that it is a relatively small device makes it lack a bit of presence at certain frequencies. While the app has some configuration options such as eq presets and battery care, I think it falls a little short in terms of customization. The sound quality is great, there is a balance that makes what is played sound even and loud. The microphone is heard quite well and in calls the sound is loud and clear.Something that I consider one of its strongest points is the battery, with a percentage of 75% I was able to listen to music for several hours for a few days until it reached 17%, after connecting the speaker to the charger in less than two hours it was fully charged. This speaker is dust and water resistant, which allows it to be used in different types of weather and environments, even in the shower. In short, this Marshall Willen II bluetooth speaker features good sound, a great design, a battery that lasts long enough, microphone for making and receiving calls, a strap to hold the device etc. It also has an incredible design. The price is right and I can definitely recommend it.

Marshall claims up to 17 hours, and I put it to the test by streaming music for an entire 12-hour work shift. By the end of the day, I still had nearly 50% battery life left, which is seriously impressive for such a small speaker. This means you can easily take it on a weekend trip without worrying about constantly recharging. Now, onto the sound—which blew me away. For its size, the Willen 2 packs a full, robust sound that can easily fill a room. The bass is deep, and the mids and highs are clear, making it hard to believe all of this is coming from such a tiny portable speaker. Whether you’re at home, in the office, or out and about, the sound quality stays consistent and full, making it a perfect companion for any scenario. This speaker has quickly become my favorite portable Bluetooth device. The combination of iconic design, portability, long battery life, and impressive sound quality makes the Marshall Willen 2 a standout in the crowded portable speaker market. Whether I’m working, riding, or just hanging out, this speaker delivers on all fronts.

[Rewarded Review] Rock Star Vibes In Small Package

Marshall are legends for the amps they make, being used by rock stars from The Who to Hendrix at Woodstock to Van Halen to AC/DC and up to modern times with Green Day. These things are iconic and the Willen portable bluetooth speaker resembles a tiny amp like you’d see at a concert. Black rugged rubber texture is protective and grippy but textured to resemble the synthetic leather surrounding the full size amps, which is really cool and adds to the miniaturized style. The front has the criss crossing mesh and the brass Marshall logo as well as a brass control knob, the look of this thing is just off the charts amazing! On the back of the speaker is a strap that you can use to attach it so you can hang it out of the way but enjoy the sound. On the back of the speaker is a strap that you can use to attach it so you can hang it out of the way but enjoy the sound. And that sound…it’s huge! The loudness you can get from this little thing is irresponsible! I don’t see any reason this couldn’t be used to great effect at a small to medium gathering where the conversation is secondary to the music. All of the controls are done through the knob on the front, its both pushable and directional so that you can power it on or off by pushing and holding it in or you can turn volume up and down by bumping it up and down or fast forward by holding left or right or skipping forward or backward by tapping left or right. There’s a built-in microphone so you can take calls on the speaker as well, and in that case you’d push the knob once to answer the call or push twice to reject the call. It’s a neat way of keeping the controls contained within the aesthetic. Of course it’s not all retro style, there are LEDs along the top to see the power indicator and battery level and a USB-C port to charge it up on the side. It’s listed as IP67 rated but like most expensive electronics I didn’t dunk it in a bucket of water or bury it in the yard to test it, but Marshall is a name I’d trust and I have no reason to suspect it’s not up to a little rain or dust if you take it outside. Battery level is also listed as able to last 15 hours and I know it lasted at least six while I was doing work around the house last weekend and the battery level was still at two bars, again even if the number isn’t quite right you’ll get a solid day of use out of it without having to plug into anything. So bottom line, if you’re a music lover and want something a little flashier than your typical bluetooth speaker this is a fabulous option! The amp style is enough for me to love it but the detachable strap, water resistance, long battery, and ability to destroy eardrums make it my new favorite speaker to clip on my tool box when I’m fixing the car or repairing the house. I don’t know that any of its features are things you won’t be able to find on other brands, models, or speakers but I can say that you’re not going to have a speaker this cool and this long lasting.

Once connected you can get down to business. I fired up my favorite music streaming app and hit play and the sound coming from the Willin II is great. Very clear and with the equalizer presets you can get the sound quality that fits best what you are listening to. Either the standard Marshall EQ, or you can set to Push which punches up the bass and treble or Voice EQ which focuses more on getting a clearer vocal. The joystick control is very intuitive. Push to play/pause, up and down for volume up/down, left and right for play last or next. The top sports a bar graph for battery life and a great feature is the quick release rubber strap for easy attaching to a backpack rather than the other brand solutions of carabiners or loop straps. The implementation makes it easier to control how the speaker faces instead of loosely flopping around it stays firm.So far my only gripe is there is no user customizable EQ settings. You are stuck with the 3 presets. You can always use your smart device's EQ (if your streaming app supports it) but it would be nice if the Marshall app allowed you to fine tune to your desired settings. So, a strong B+ or maybe an A- for these speakers and really for me it just comes down to not being able to fine tune my EQ... I suffer from tinnitus and moderate to severe hearing loss so some frequencies don't sound right if I can hear them at all so using a full functioning equalizer allows me to fine tune to punch out of my dead zones. But in the end the Willin II performs amazingly and perfect for those on the go.

It perfectly complements their existing portable speaker lineup, and its design is simply spot-on. I love how it maintains the signature Marshall aesthetic, giving it that iconic amplifier look with the brushed brass accents and the textured rubberized body. What I Loved:- Iconic Marshall Design: There’s something timeless about the way Marshall designs their speakers, and the Willen II is no exception. From its guitar amp-like appearance to the premium materials used (rubber, metal, and brushed brass metal), this little speaker feels like a high-end product. It’s rugged, stylish, and perfectly portable.- Portability and Versatility: This speaker is incredibly portable and versatile. I especially love the strap on the back, which allows me to easily attach it to my bike's handlebars when I’m cruising through the park with my kids. It’s equally great for hikes, camping trips, and just about any outdoor activity. The Willen II is also waterproof and dustproof, which means it can handle showers, poolside parties, or trips to the beach without worry. I mean, this thing can be submerged in 3 ft of water for up to 30 minutes!!- Sound Quality: Despite its small size, this speaker gets LOUD. It’s impressive how much sound it can produce—perfect for both intimate settings and larger outdoor spaces. While the bass isn’t quite as deep as I’d like on some tracks with heavy drops, it still packs a punch, and overall the sound is clear, well-rounded, and capable of handling a wide range of genres. The speaker truly bumps, and I find myself wanting to carry it everywhere.- Shower Game Changer: Speaking of versatility, the Willen II has completely transformed my shower routine. The waterproof design means I can bring it in the bathroom and have a full-on rockstar moment while belting out tunes. The volume and sound quality hold up well even in the steamy environment, and it makes showering an immersive experience. Become the Rockstar you want to be!- Ease of Use: The control layout is intuitive. The multi-directional knob allows for easy control of volume, track skipping, and play/pause, while the Bluetooth pairing was smooth and hassle-free with my phone. The Marshall app works well with this speaker too, offering a few EQ presets to match your preference (though I do wish there was a custom EQ option).A Few Minor Criticisms:- Bass Performance: While the Willen II performs exceptionally well in most aspects, the bass could use a bit more depth, especially on tracks that have those big bass drops. It’s not a deal-breaker by any means, but I do notice it occasionally when listening to bass-heavy music.- No Custom EQ in App: The Marshall app works great for quick EQ adjustments, but it doesn’t allow for any custom EQ tweaking. Having that extra bit of customization would be a nice touch for those who want to fine-tune the sound to their liking.Final Verdict:Marshall has absolutely nailed it once again with the Willen II Portable Bluetooth Speaker. This little powerhouse is the perfect companion for all kinds of adventures, from casual park outings and bike rides to more rugged camping trips and poolside hangs. The build quality is exceptional, the sound is impressive for its size, and it looks like a mini guitar amp—which, let’s be honest, is just cool. While it could benefit from a bit more bass depth and a custom EQ option, these are small nitpicks in an otherwise outstanding speaker. It’s easily my new go-to for just about everything—whether I’m hiking, camping, cruising on bikes with my kids, or singing my heart out in the shower. If you’re a fan of Marshall or just want a premium portable speaker, the Willen II is a fantastic choice.
