For a Marshalltown product I am disappointed in this tools quality. I expected a lot more from Marshalltown but it does do the job it's supposed to do. I can't see this lasting to long though given the poor quality of this product. It's already bent in my tool box! I don't recommend this tool but what I do recommend is just putting some nails or screws through a piece of wood and using that for a scratch coat. It will certainly last longer and cost you nothing.

Great product
I needed to score a wall prior to skimming, and I was recommended this Scarifier. I duly purchased it and was amazed when I took it out of the packaging. It is so basic an flimsey, you could not even use it to scratch your back to get rid of an itch. So I ended up with a piece of timber, drove some nailes thru it and that did the job., Sorry Marshaltown

Totally useless to scratch up with so flimsy just doesn’t work.
For a Marshaltown product with a Marshaltown price tag it's no better than any run of the mill scratcher. Infact, at a mere 8 inches long, it's worse than some cheaper brands! Shop around. Much better products out there for less money.
