Martell VS Cognac 700ml

(420 reviews)

Martell Cognac VS, also known as Martell VS (Very Special), is a popular expression from the renowned Cognac house Martell. Martell is one of the oldest and most respected Cognac producers, with a history dating back to 1715. Martell VS is a blend of eaux-de-vie (brandy) sourced from the Cognac region of France. It is aged in French oak barrels, although the minimum maturation period for a Cognac VS is only two years. The "VS" designation indicates that the Cognac has met the legal requirement of aging for at least that period. Martell VS is known for its smooth and approachable character. It features a combination of fruity, floral, and spicy notes that are typical of Cognacs in this category. On the nose, you may detect aromas of fresh grapes, citrus, and hints of vanilla. The palate offers a harmonious blend of flavors, including apricot, plum, honey, and gentle oak spice. It has a medium body and a relatively smooth finish. As a versatile Cognac, Martell VS can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or as an ingredient in a variety of cocktails. It pairs well with mixers like ginger ale, tonic water, or cola. Popular cocktails featuring Martell VS include the classic Sidecar and various Cognac-based twists on classic cocktails. Overall, Martell VS (Very Special) is a well-regarded Cognac that provides a delightful introduction to the world of Martell Cognacs. With its balanced flavour profile and smooth character, it can be enjoyed on its own or mixed into cocktails for a touch of elegance and sophistication.

For a VS its quite good.

Overall, VS cognac isn't the best neat, which is the only way I do cognac. Although sometimes I'm looking for something different than the usual VSOP and XO cognacs I drink. Martell VS isn't quite as "musky" as others as many have that dank wet-wood taste and nose. The Martell is lighter, less "wet" with a nice spicy fruity and mildly woody taste. By far my favorite VS and usually the only VS I'll buy.

Great drink, box came damaged, which was upsetting to have to give as a gift

Drinks smooth, but I was surprised to see the damaged Martell box upon arrival. It wasn't a shipping issue as the shipping box was intact and the bottles were well bubble packed. This was a store stocker packing a damaged bottle box. For an order made around Christmas time. Really.

If you enjoy sweet cognac, this is a great option.

The XO kind of this cognac is a great option for an after-dinner beverage. If you're looking for a cognac that is sweeter than even Courvoisier XO, this is a great choice because it has a superb flavor profile. Try Hennessy if you want dryer. This cognac is really too excellent to blend; drink it exclusively neat, without ice.

It's difficult to go closer to perfection!

A very vintage cognac is Martel Cordon Bleu. Compared to many of the current XOs, it is significantly heavier and fuller-bodied. It is a very "long" cognac with a light fire that touched the mouth and cheeks. It develops an extraordinarily nuanced flavor and has a beautiful, somewhat sweet finish when warmed and slightly swirled in the glass. All that should be added to this is a fire, some good company, and possibly a fine cigar.

More delicious by the drop!

I am a cognac connoisseur. I am proud to say I have tried darn close to the full spectrum of cognac brands. as my tastes got more complex Remy 1738 & XO became my go-to because it's profile is dry, fruity, with a nose of spice. I was feeling adventurous and branched out to Martell Cordon Bleu by suggestion of an Ocean Club bar tender and my brother (a whisky drinker) and I did a blind taste test with Martell Cordon Bleu & VSOP the following week. To my surprise, we both favored Martell VSOP 2/4 times thinking it was the higher end Cordon Bleu. It's darn close IMO. Nose is peppery and you are greeted with a smooth dance of raisins and cream which graduates to as they say a peppery "ash fade". It is incredibly complex and I find myself savoring every sip for all it has to offer. It's flavors literally transition with every sip. Pairs well with seafood (which is why Martell is the highest volume seller of all- it is Asia's go-to). Lastly, you can savor this all night long as it doesn't get too heavy and sweet like Henny. If you like Remy and other dry cognac profiles, Give this a shot!!

One Of The Best, XO, Is That Correct? Absolutely!
22 November 2022

I have been a Cordon Bleu drinker for years. It used to be extremely challenging to find. No issue at this time. I'm appreciative of the 375 size's affordable availability. It hasn't been designated as an X or V aging, but it is an XO quality cognac and has continuously competed favorably with all of the most expensive, highly regarded cognacs I've had access to, in my opinion. It is a remarkable discovery in the world of spirits. Anyone looking for a WONDERFUL cognac is encouraged to try it because I've found the tasting remarks to be largely accurate. It is lavish.

One of the best, XO, yes or no? Absolutely!
3 April 2021

I've been drinking Cordon Bleu for decades. It used to be very difficult to find. Now, not a problem. I'm grateful for the availability of the 375 size at a great price. While it has not labelled as an X or V aging, it is an XO class cognac and has consistently held its own (in my mind) to all of the most expensive, highly rated cognacs I've had access to. It is truly a rare find in a world of spirits. I've found the tasting notes relatively accurate, and encourage anyone looking for a WONDERFUL cognac, give it a try. It is luscious.

Smooth and warming

Smooth and delicious. You can really taste the quality. A subtle hint of fruitiness in the background. Great to finish off a meal and the smaller bottle feels less extravagant than buying a large one!

Tastes like Hennessy, but better
14 May 2023

This VS cognac is priced about the same as Hennessy, but unlike that one, Martell is actually worth the price. It boasts the same flavor profile as Hennessy, with grape, oak, caramel, and some leather, but is smoother and mellower, and better both neat and in cocktails. This one’s a winner, and will suffice when you don’t want to shell out the extra money for Pierre Ferrand.

The most value for the money
22 November 2022

In terms of cognac, Martell is among the top 4. When compared to Remy XO, Hennessy XO, and Martell XO, Cordon Bleu provides the best value for the money and might be argued to be as good as or better than the others. Alcohol-free flavor with no aftertaste. Please sip this neat and savor the wonderful fragrances of this superb vintage cognac.
